I heard Liz and John first at the Laurel Theater in Knoxville, TN (they brought the house down!). Now that I've moved to Bend, Oregon I'd love to get them up to Central Oregon for our music fests here! Keep those feet tappin' Liz and John!
I don't know. They're repetitive in form, but it gives a lot of room for interpretation and improv, and little twists in ornamentation, if you'll let it. Have a listen to the version by Darol Anger and the American Republic of Strings.
Perhaps it is just not your style? Nothing wrong with that. I love it, but I also love other stuff like metal (Opeth, Maiden, Metallica), Latin (Rodrigo y Gabriela, Johannes Linstead, Mana), Prog Rock (Rush, Pink Floyd, Fates Warning, Genesis...) There's little subtleties that you might not be catching...
One of my favorite Liz Carrol tunes, Great to see it live!

No, that's Sean Doyle. John's father. Google Sean Doyle and go to videos, the first one is of Sean and John playing a song at the same festival.

Why do I find these kind of reels so boring and repetitive. Nothing in them.
