For someone who has spent many a Christmas at sea around the British Coasts, this song reflects what every seafarer feels at this time of year. Thanks to Sting for bringing it to life again.
the lady is playing a Clarsach...a scottish harp ....if im right shes singing..i wish we were going home.....to storrybreck of the white footed cattle ...the first blessing from me as its my right....thats abou it really .i wish my countrys language wasnt mixed up with others as it is very sacred and not spoken enough happy new year merry xmas everyone
It is a beautiful language indeed. And it would be really sad to see it fade away. The same things are happening in my home - the everyday language is still spoken pretty much the same as it was centuries ago, but the dialects are slowly dying. And the same thing applies even more to songs and folklore - most young people don't know anything about the old customs (not excluding myself, actually). But at least I feel love for that culture and I see the same in you, which I highly admire.
@deek1971 Hello deek1971 Thank you for your translation. It is beautiful. I am just discovering this song in summer and I am flipped for it. Do you teach the scottish gaelic? I am curious how you kept the language alive in you and how you continue to do so. I hear how sacred your beautiful language is and it gives me chills! Thank you.
@deek1971 Thank you so much for translating this! I heard the song recently and I've been wondering what she was saying and what language it came from.
It is a beautiful rendition, and typically catchy (that's Sting for you). This song will stay in your head awhile.
Also, Sting dyed his beard during that period.
