Yep your right, P40's only had the Allison V12 engine fitted. If they had merlins then i'm sure we would have heard how good they were at higher altitudes. Lovely aircraft.
I dont recall any p-40's having the merlin or griffon... i could be wrong. I'm pretty sure the p-40 had an allison engine in it. same as the p-38 and early 51's
The coment earlier about the color scheme being incorrect is in fact not true - this was in fact a real color scheme on the particular aircraft it depicts in Italy - I was interested too but it was verified - it is genuine and rare
Magnificent aircraft .. and i still love the sound of those engines .. much nicer than the scream of jets (even though, these days, half an afterburner could demolish a piston engine in zero seconds, in a real battle.)
Yup, have some of a YAK, flown by Chris Sperou. There were a couple of other YAK's at the show, but details escape me at the moment. Life is a bit fraught at the moment, so please be patient.
This aircraft was constructed from a New Zealand P40 (NZ23125) at Wangaratta and Deniliquin over the past five years. The Allison engine was reconditioned in the USA. The entire project was shipped to Pioneer Aero Restorations in New Zealand for completion and was finished just in time for the Wanaka Airshow this Easter.
It was then brought to Australia, and the Jamestown Airshow was its first public appearance in this country
umm, have about 1.5 hours of the airshow. Whaddya want? a full length feature? Seriously, editing time is a problem at the moment.. will post more when time permits. Thankyou for the comment.

More beautiful than a P-51. I wonder what these could've done with a Merlin engine. ?

It is now based at Albury Airport. It is a wonderful sight, and a wonderful thing to hear. Great job on the restoration Allan Arthur.

Yes NZ restored. Belongs to Alan Arthur.
