i had general lawn tickets but when rage came on we rushed security and i got as close as the second row from the stage, now everytime i hear rage i go fucking nuts, i wanna see them again sooooooo bad!!!
I was there! Covered in mud, high as hell, and laughing like crazy as we drank more and pushed peoples' cars out of the way to finally leave the parking lot!
I second that.. The mud & parking was difficult to deal with @ alpine but atleast it was worth it.. Lolla was hard to deal with.. I'm average size 6' & it was all I could do to make through the show b/c of people.. No regrets though.. I will see rage again..
The vibe at this show was unexplainable. Most people that were here will agree. By far, the best concert I've ever been too and that'sa saying a lot. Please please please confirm the 2008 Lollapalooza rumor.
im getting my Lolla 08 tickets soon...please bring Rage to Chicago! I remember last time they played here in 99. Radiohead and NIN are already confirmed for Lolla and adding Rage on to that list would just be incredible.
my god the memories!! greatest concert ever! and yeah, there was that huge fuckin storm on the way up there...crazy. I live only about 1 hour and a half from alpine(i live in the chicago suburbs) so it was pretty sweet and me and a a few of my pals stayed at my lake house which is only 15 minutes from there. absolutely amazing show! the mud fights were so much fun. man i miss that night! i even had fun stuck in the really muddy parking lot after the show.
These guys f-ing rock. What happen to music . Cool shit like this was coming out and I thought it would just get better. But it didnt, it just got worse. Im mean there are probobly a couple of things that came out sence these guys. But thats it, the music out now, f-ing blow's big donky d-cks. There isnt shit out there. It was no disaster, Alpine was the only gig they played where a riot didn't break out afterwards, that was the disaster. I had VIP seats so mud for me. For the parking lot, go around the back way along the edge of the lot instead of waiting in line like cattle.
Hell yeah, i was there. I came from southern Indiana, and I am never going back to alpine vally.....that venue sucks. Rage was the fuckin shit though.
Mud throwing was not that surprising, at past Ozzfest's people have been throwing chunks of sod all over. People get drunk and stupid and think they're cool be doing that. Alpine does have great sitelines and acoustics, but is a huge pain in the ass to get to.

facing a facist state...which we live in. lies destroy our own being...how can this be? good question, there is no one to answer. we our in the belly of the beast......
i read somewhere that when they were making their music, all the members would jsut listen to him and never give their own opinions. even though tom is the shit he was getting frusterated with them cuz they always did what he wanted to do and rarely gave their own ideas.
Yeah this show was awesome. Alpine Valley is always kind of shitty, but a mud fest is always fun. Man I saw so many people from out of town... and the miles upon miles of traffic. Glad they delayed the show if they didn't there would have been riots lol! Hope you guys from out state had a good time.
yeah, i was there. me and my friend snuck back stage before the rain and got down in the pit while they were doing sound checks. then we went in the back and found their tour buses. we took some pictures by them and then a guy started questioning us. i said my dad worked there and he said, ok. but then his boss started questioning me some more and told me we needed to leave. when we got back out, rage started sound check. i was so pissed!
the concert was awesome, I made the drive from Grand Forks, ND. It ended up being a 13 hour drive for me with various stops along the way. Wisconsin is pretty cool, except the cops that pulled people over and were searching the crap out of all the cars (I didn't happen to be one of those, thankfully).
Its funny everyone bitching about not getting in, you have to go early and party in the parking lot and then go in and get a choice spot, must of never been to a big concert before HUH
its kinda hard to get off work, and plus half the traffic lights were out bc of the storm that happened the night before. & i dont care ive been to big, sold out shows before and it shouldnt take 3 hours to get up a 2 mile hill.
even though tailgating beforehand wouldve been ideal and was part of the original plan
i was one of the first cars in the blue lot around 4:30, and fuck yeah, easy to get in, loads of pre-drinking time. it was hard to smoke at first with all the cops in golf carts and shit but once the lot filled it was no problem
I had no problem getting there, but the wait to leave was ridiculous. This was mainly due to the mud and shit I would think, but still. When you see a show this amazing WITH the mud and everything it just makes it that much better.
Awesome show, hated the venue tho. The mud plus the incline made shit dangerous. We were 3rd row, just behind the pit, everyone was coming from the mud pit down to the normal pit. People were thrown at us, jumped toward us, ect. Regardless, it didn't ruin my night. A few people were nice that were coming down, alot of people were concerned about everyone else too. Good stuff.
I loved this show too. I paid off the security guard 20 bucks to let me and my frriends on the floor. I then ran into the mosh pit for 30 min then back up to do some filming (and then back to mosh pit). We were covered in sweat and mud.
Its like nothing has changed. When they turned Nassau Colliseum upside down, or Roseland Ballroom. I want to see them on Halloween in New Orleans!!!
there was only like 10 people in that pit lol. In all honesty Alpine Valley sucks for moshing, unless it's like ozzfest and they have the second stage on some more level ground. The mud slides were fun though. Reminds me of the last time deftones were at alpine valley.
Not to sound cocky, but me and 3 of my friends just walked right on down to the floor from the lawn mang. just gotta think it out. Wait until they're helping some Alpine n00b find their seats... or pretend you're on your phone and just walk down. Shit was so hecktic all night, it was easy my friend. MUCH thanks for the vids though!! Fuckin RAGE!!!
"If that was your best show ever you must not have seen Rage at the Aragon in 96'. Fuck Alpine Valley, that place is the taint of Wisconsin. What a joke!" - Is that meant to impress? Who cares?
I have no idea what the deal was with alpine. I've been to many a show there in the past, a number of them sell-outs, and I've never sat in traffic to get in for more than about an hour and change. I'd be interested to know what the problem was...
Don't be mad cause you missed one of the best shows in Chicago's history. You were 10 years old sittin' at home watchin' power rangers playin' with your little pee pee. Go fuck yourself kid.
Chicago's history? Last time I checked, not only is Chicago not in Wisconsin, but, the concert was in Alpine Valley. Umm, I believe that's in East Troy. GTFO
This show was amazing, it kicked ass. It was one of the greatest shows i've seen. By the way, I helped a girl from Chicago who had lost her friends get out of the pit after the rail fell on that dude. If she's reading this or you know her, tell her i'd like to talk to her and someone should message me.
agreed, i made the trip from grand rapids MI and it was WELL worth the drive.
i enjoyed the shit out of my alpine valley experience, if youve got that big of a problem with traffic, lines, mud or crowds, dont go to monumental concerts like this one.
and WI isnt so bad, the landscape sucks, but cigs are $3, a 12 pack of leinie's is $6, there's slot machines in every bar, and best of all THE BARS HAVE NO LAST CALL!!!
i was originally standing on that hill, then i said fuck that if theres a pit im gonna die..because of the mud. so i hopped the rail to the stage. it was fucking amazing.
I was coming north on Rt. 12, past Lake Geneva, big sign directing everyone to get off south of I-43 where I originally planned on going, then going to Hwy D into the show. I got off where they said to, then got trapped in that shit for 3 hours. 3 hours to go 8 miles, that must be a new record. Alpine is a great venue, but such a pain in the ass to get to, and the worst traffic/crowd management I've ever seen.
If that was your best show ever you must not have seen Rage at the Aragon in 96'. Fuck Alpine Valley, that place is the taint of Wisconsin. What a joke!
I agree, Alpine Valley is a fucked up location for anything. We left Chicago @ 2p.m. and got to the lawn @ about 8:45 and it was less than 100 miles away. Many people left their cars on the side of the road because of the one lane roads that lead to Alpine Valley that just can't acomodate that many people.
Before the show started me and my buddy snuck back stage through a garage at the V.I.P. building, we got about 10 feet away from RAGE's trailer before they told us to go back. The security had absolutely no control, peolpe were hopping the rail like illegal immigrants. I help tear down that motherfuckin rail. The mud slides were fucking insane!!!! as well as the mud slinging at the beginning, and that was one of Zack's best speeches. Did anybody die?
Bad Fucking Ass show...was pretty scary when the rail broke tho. This guy had his foot caught under the rail for a good 15 mins. Id be surprised if it isnt broke. People were getting pelted with mud,,,,,goodtimes!
Worst concert experience I've ever been a part of. Not because of Rage, I'm sure they were great. Getting stuck in a 10 mile backup is what ruined it. Got there a little before 7, didn't get in until after 10:15. What a joke, worst traffic management I've ever seen. Missed about 70% of the show, still pissed as hell.
Thats your fucking fault, wtf did you expect it was soldout and over 39000 ppl where there. I got in line of cars when they open up the gate at fucking 12:30, and was right up on the gate in the lawn because of it and i was proud that i was there. Have you ever been to a concert before? Traffic always sucks...ALWAYS!
I've been to plenty of shows over the years, at all different types of venues, including Alpine for several OzzFests and a Pearl Jam show in the mid 90's that was a sell out. Never has anything come close to that, maybe next time I should leave early in the morning for a night show there, it was a joke. The cops didn't do shit to help things either, just stook around with thumbs up their asses.
wtf u talkin about! how is it anyones fault that the fools running the show can't anticipate or manage such an event..?!
only in america. same happened at coachella this year with the will-call. stood in line (FROM 12.30 WHEN THE GATES OPENED!!) and didnt get in till past 6!! how frickin hard is it to manage a bunch of pre-paid tickets!
I agree!!! alpine was completely understaffed. The cops yelled at us for walking on the side of the road and made us get back inside the car. I've been to a ton of sold out concerts, but this was just horrible. Rage put on a great show (i missed the first 15 mins), but the way traffic/parking lots everything was managed was complete bullshit, especially for a big show like this. I hate alpine.
Well sorry for your inconvience but for 2 bands that have a humongous following i just thought people would know you had to get there early. I thought there would of been there earlier but there wasnt. I love the show, and loved the venue. Whoever said it was 2 quiet...psh i thought the acoustics were great. If it was to quiet did you hear Tom's solo during Calm Like A Bomb, was that to quiet?
haha, did your son have a "battle of alpine valley" shirt on that was WAY too big for him? if he did, i saw you guys at the show and at a hotel west of lake geneva later that night
thats badass either way, i cant wait to take my daughter to shows when she's older, hope you guys were on sturdy ground!
Still to this day, best day/night/morning of my life right here.

Audioslave was pretty good.....and yeah they are broken up because Chris decided to go and do some solo stuff....which sucks by the way.

props to tom on ditching Audioslave..
i read somewhere that when they were making their music, all the members would jsut listen to him and never give their own opinions. even though tom is the shit he was getting frusterated with them cuz they always did what he wanted to do and rarely gave their own ideas.

My ears are still ringing from that solo. THIS CONCERT KICKED FUCKIN ASS!!!!!
piratemcdaddy 4 years ago
show freaked me out at first because of the traffic, thought i wouldn't make it. made it in the nic of time and had the time of my life.
hamdigidy 4 years ago
Yeah this show was awesome. Alpine Valley is always kind of shitty, but a mud fest is always fun. Man I saw so many people from out of town... and the miles upon miles of traffic. Glad they delayed the show if they didn't there would have been riots lol! Hope you guys from out state had a good time.
Aixelsydevahi 4 years ago
fuck yeah, that was probibly the best concert i have ever been at
rfaja 4 years ago
yeah, i was there. me and my friend snuck back stage before the rain and got down in the pit while they were doing sound checks. then we went in the back and found their tour buses. we took some pictures by them and then a guy started questioning us. i said my dad worked there and he said, ok. but then his boss started questioning me some more and told me we needed to leave. when we got back out, rage started sound check. i was so pissed!
rush211289 4 years ago
Yeah I saw them all searching peoples shit like crazy. I had to hide all the brew and joints. never did check us.
GoldinthemHills 4 years ago
the concert was awesome, I made the drive from Grand Forks, ND. It ended up being a 13 hour drive for me with various stops along the way. Wisconsin is pretty cool, except the cops that pulled people over and were searching the crap out of all the cars (I didn't happen to be one of those, thankfully).
robenanderson 4 years ago
That show blew my friggin' mind!
Rynodeth 4 years ago
Its funny everyone bitching about not getting in, you have to go early and party in the parking lot and then go in and get a choice spot, must of never been to a big concert before HUH
wrp1981 4 years ago
its kinda hard to get off work, and plus half the traffic lights were out bc of the storm that happened the night before. & i dont care ive been to big, sold out shows before and it shouldnt take 3 hours to get up a 2 mile hill.
even though tailgating beforehand wouldve been ideal and was part of the original plan
anarkychicago 4 years ago
i was one of the first cars in the blue lot around 4:30, and fuck yeah, easy to get in, loads of pre-drinking time. it was hard to smoke at first with all the cops in golf carts and shit but once the lot filled it was no problem
suckafartfrommyass 4 years ago
i was like 8th car in the WHOLE PARKING LOT, freaking amazing tailgating, basically a big party where everyone was awesome.

where were u at?
i was in the front row pof the pit dead middle fucking greatest time and most amzing thing ever in my life
RATMagainstbush 4 years ago
I had no problem getting there, but the wait to leave was ridiculous. This was mainly due to the mud and shit I would think, but still. When you see a show this amazing WITH the mud and everything it just makes it that much better.
hockeyclean 4 years ago
Awesome show, hated the venue tho. The mud plus the incline made shit dangerous. We were 3rd row, just behind the pit, everyone was coming from the mud pit down to the normal pit. People were thrown at us, jumped toward us, ect. Regardless, it didn't ruin my night. A few people were nice that were coming down, alot of people were concerned about everyone else too. Good stuff.
Akira1422 4 years ago
I loved this show too. I paid off the security guard 20 bucks to let me and my frriends on the floor. I then ran into the mosh pit for 30 min then back up to do some filming (and then back to mosh pit). We were covered in sweat and mud.
Its like nothing has changed. When they turned Nassau Colliseum upside down, or Roseland Ballroom. I want to see them on Halloween in New Orleans!!!
sonnydbk 4 years ago
haha damn dude thats a good idea i should of done that but there was no way i was givin up my spot to go film i was front row dead middle in the pit.
Where were u in the pit?
RATMagainstbush 4 years ago
there was only like 10 people in that pit lol. In all honesty Alpine Valley sucks for moshing, unless it's like ozzfest and they have the second stage on some more level ground. The mud slides were fun though. Reminds me of the last time deftones were at alpine valley.
Aixelsydevahi 4 years ago

JHubz187 4 years ago
Chicago's history? Last time I checked, not only is Chicago not in Wisconsin, but, the concert was in Alpine Valley. Umm, I believe that's in East Troy. GTFO

This show was amazing, it kicked ass. It was one of the greatest shows i've seen. By the way, I helped a girl from Chicago who had lost her friends get out of the pit after the rail fell on that dude. If she's reading this or you know her, tell her i'd like to talk to her and someone should message me.

alpine valley sucks?? it has some of the best acoustics ANYWHERE in the world dude!!
so what if its in wisconsin! does that make northern illionis any better minus chicago???
surfsno2008 4 years ago
agree man greatest acoustics ever heard in my life loved the place
RATMagainstbush 4 years ago
agreed, i made the trip from grand rapids MI and it was WELL worth the drive.
i enjoyed the shit out of my alpine valley experience, if youve got that big of a problem with traffic, lines, mud or crowds, dont go to monumental concerts like this one.
and WI isnt so bad, the landscape sucks, but cigs are $3, a 12 pack of leinie's is $6, there's slot machines in every bar, and best of all THE BARS HAVE NO LAST CALL!!!

one of the best shows i've ever been to-
only van halen 1991 compares...
The sound was sick. morello was on fire and sounded more agressive then in audioslave.. wow!!
surfsno2008 4 years ago
hoooly shit. this was an amazing show.
i was originally standing on that hill, then i said fuck that if theres a pit im gonna die..because of the mud. so i hopped the rail to the stage. it was fucking amazing.

Unbelievable show.
My body was run through the wringer last night, as I imagine many others' were.
And my car has mud in its ASSHOLE.
LoganDoe 4 years ago
I was coming north on Rt. 12, past Lake Geneva, big sign directing everyone to get off south of I-43 where I originally planned on going, then going to Hwy D into the show. I got off where they said to, then got trapped in that shit for 3 hours. 3 hours to go 8 miles, that must be a new record. Alpine is a great venue, but such a pain in the ass to get to, and the worst traffic/crowd management I've ever seen.
mwmaki1 4 years ago
Traffic was bullshit, missed Queens. The show was too quiet. I'll never be back to Alpine Valley.
TheArgoPirate 4 years ago
If that was your best show ever you must not have seen Rage at the Aragon in 96'. Fuck Alpine Valley, that place is the taint of Wisconsin. What a joke!
JHubz187 4 years ago
I agree, Alpine Valley is a fucked up location for anything. We left Chicago @ 2p.m. and got to the lawn @ about 8:45 and it was less than 100 miles away. Many people left their cars on the side of the road because of the one lane roads that lead to Alpine Valley that just can't acomodate that many people.
d9280 4 years ago
Before the show started me and my buddy snuck back stage through a garage at the V.I.P. building, we got about 10 feet away from RAGE's trailer before they told us to go back. The security had absolutely no control, peolpe were hopping the rail like illegal immigrants. I help tear down that motherfuckin rail. The mud slides were fucking insane!!!! as well as the mud slinging at the beginning, and that was one of Zack's best speeches. Did anybody die?

i thought i was about to in the front row in the pit on that god damn fecne wit everyone leanin and pushing against u ha

Missed about 70% of the show, still pissed as hell.
mwmaki1 4 years ago
Thats your fucking fault, wtf did you expect it was soldout and over 39000 ppl where there. I got in line of cars when they open up the gate at fucking 12:30, and was right up on the gate in the lawn because of it and i was proud that i was there. Have you ever been to a concert before? Traffic always sucks...ALWAYS!
Halucigens 4 years ago
I've been to plenty of shows over the years, at all different types of venues, including Alpine for several OzzFests and a Pearl Jam show in the mid 90's that was a sell out. Never has anything come close to that, maybe next time I should leave early in the morning for a night show there, it was a joke. The cops didn't do shit to help things either, just stook around with thumbs up their asses.
mwmaki1 4 years ago
wtf u talkin about! how is it anyones fault that the fools running the show can't anticipate or manage such an event..?!
only in america. same happened at coachella this year with the will-call. stood in line (FROM 12.30 WHEN THE GATES OPENED!!) and didnt get in till past 6!! how frickin hard is it to manage a bunch of pre-paid tickets!
shit like this just doesnt happen in the UK.
dillinjaesc 4 years ago
I got there later then you and was inside for the show right when it started. How did that happen? Sorry to hear about your troubles.
patrickpjfan 4 years ago
I agree!!! alpine was completely understaffed. I hate alpine.
anarkychicago 4 years ago
Well sorry for your inconvience but for 2 bands that have a humongous following i just thought people would know you had to get there early. I thought there would of been there earlier but there wasnt. I love the show, and loved the venue. Whoever said it was 2 quiet...psh i thought the acoustics were great. If it was to quiet did you hear Tom's solo during Calm Like A Bomb, was that to quiet?
