But besides that access to doctors is terrible in Canada - Ontario is a very good example. You can wait months for an MRI in Canada. A person making 50K a year will pay about $5000-6000 to healthcare. You can get an MRI within a week or two if you spent that much on private insurance in the USA. The US healthcare is bad? Your docs keep running here
Both sides have their flaws. People in Canada just like it because they don't got to worry about dealing with insurance companies. The oil company I work for has always, always done right by me and the great state of Texas! They pay for my health and also my sons insurance, because they work there too. Why should we taxpayers be forced to pay for other peoples insurance just because they dont want to do an honest days work? As someone who works in healthcare, I would take the US system any day. Canada's system is unsustainable and we are paying for it in very high taxes and very poor service.
pandora779, as someone who has been hospitalized under both systems, I'll take the Canadian system any day. There's just no comparison. The US system is designed to funnel drugs, tests, and procedures to you whether you need them or not. It's why the hospital looks like a mall. The Canadian system is more focused on actual health.
As an Canadian Pandora please leave. Leave Canada and move to the US and make more money. Quietly leave and let someone take your place who cares. But if you call yourself Canadian and work in the healthcare industry and like the money you are making: Do something about making the system more sustainable.

Mary Walsh is an embarrassment to Canada. And our healthcare system is totally over-rated, ranked 30th in the world out of 48 "leading" countries.
US was lower, so I'm not saying the American system is better.
It seems that two tier - minimal level guaranteed by the government, and private for those that are willing to spend their money on it - is the best answer so far.

The oil company I work for has always, always done right by me and the great state of Texas! They pay for my health and also my sons insurance, because they work there too. Why should we taxpayers be forced to pay for other peoples insurance just because they dont want to do an honest days work? The US Constitution prohibits socialism and and were not going to pay for people to lounge around in the hospital like its a free vacation. We are just lucky that our governor, Mr Rick Perry hates so

As someone who works in healthcare, I would take the US system any day. Canada's system is unsustainable and we are paying for it in very high taxes and very poor service.

pandora779, as someone who has been hospitalized under both systems, I'll take the Canadian system any day. There's just no comparison. The US system is designed to funnel drugs, tests, and procedures to you whether you need them or not. It's why the hospital looks like a mall. The Canadian system is more focused on actual health.
