Tonya was definitely robbed of her Tony!!! It really is sad, the politics! Thank you so much for posting these videos of all these magnificent performances in one of my most favorite shows ever.
Second only to the incredible "Next to Normal" for the best musical I've seen the past two decades, it was painful to watch this lose Best Musical to Avenue Q, and Tanya was also robbed of Best Actress. It just didn't do well enough commercially to win the so-called artistic awards, which of course are far too influenced by the dollar.
@jayiijay If the awards were so influenced by the dollar that season, then WICKED would have swept the awards. I agree hat Avenue Q was an awful choice and Pinkens should have won.
How on earth could they give Idina a Tony for Wicked over THIS phenomenal performance? That seems completely wrong to me. I love Wicked and Idina but come on!! THIS is acting! She deserved that Tony more than anyone else that year IMO, even if just for her performance of this song. Though she was just as amazing in the rest of the show! I will never forget when I saw her in this, this video just brought everything back!! AMAZING
@elphbwckd I agree. But the Tonys have the worst history in all of show business for insanity and politics. They have made as many mistakes as having given awards to people who deserve them. This performance was mezmerizing but Tonya Pinkens ALWAYS is.
@TeDdYBoObOo you can guess most of the tony awards by how they end if they end with a hopeful end they win the tony. I know its simplistic but critics love it .
That's her! The lovely/talented Chandra Wilson. And then a year later, Grey's plucked the lovely/talented Sara Ramirez from Broadway and put her on TV too!
This was a jaw dropping amazing performance that can't be compared to any other flawless performance just appreciated that we got too see.I am so thankful that I have been able to see such absolute release of talent...
What is the name of the last song in Caroline or Change?
I really only know of this from the movie Showbusiness: The Road to Broadway, but what I've heard, it seems great, and I really hope that youtube has more of the songs.
because elphaba is on stage most of the time equal to glinda and they share their sceens together except for some...thats why they come out together at the end of the show tonya is good though
@AtLastOnTheGround It flopped, like most of Tony Cushner's works. I don't know why he's done so badly, he's a genius and all of his work is mind blowing.
@ritsfata Tony Kushner I do not think it is the problem. Its the score like Shrek she composed and TMM some people hate it with a passion. I actually love it
This is really amazing. I wish that I could have seen it live. Pinkins' performance is so emotional, but she still shows her unbounded talent as a singer. The acting doesn't get in the way of the singing, it only enhances it to such an amazing degree.
I saw it the July before it closed. Everybody walked out of the theatre just speechless. You just felt changed. That's the genius of Kushner, not to mention the incredible score and the talent of the cast.
this is shattering. I kind of see why it didn't get audiences -- it's almost too overwhelming to watch, the kind of thing you can appreciate as genius without enjoying. she's beyond amazing; I have no words.
is that dr. bailey?

This is such an amazing song. It sounds like it was hard for Tonya Pikins to sing.
