  • hey my bike lock is jamed. can it cut through a bike lock?

  • No safety guard on the machine???? How NOT to cut metal....

  • is that dangerous?

  • Thanks for the video. I don't mean to be an ass about it, but as usual with youTube instructional videos, there's 20 seconds of information in a 3 minute (or longer) video. You are obviously (trying to be) making money off this, so please just think about what you want to say and say it concisely. It's frustrating to watch all the blah blah. Thanks though!

  • I can't believe nobody so far hasn't commented in the fact that he cut into his table!!!!! Dude, clamp your metal piece off the SIDE if your bench!!!! Why in earth would anyone cut directly into their bench? WHAT, ARE YA NEW OR SUMTHN??? Grinders are fine for cutting, as long as one uses a "CUTTING DISC.". The guard is mandatory too. Those discs explode like a mini hand grenade!!!

  • The cutoff wheel is great for a few items. There is also one just for aluminum. If several lengths of items are needed a band saw is better and faster.

  • ALWAYS FIT THE GUARD.

    ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES.

  • what should i buy for face protection? thanks

  • how much???

  • That better not be an anvil your cutting on...

  • great video.

  • thanks for a good vid... I like your stuff.

  • im lookin to make something out of 1/4" or 3/8" steel sheets. would a grinder make long cuts? does it take a long time to cut 1/4" steel? or is it worth while and money to get a chop saw that can cut steel?

  • you need TOOLS to tighten the disk !

cant tighten it by hand !!!

you will INJURE yourselves not using the tools !

    not a joke !

  • Comment removed

  • hey i need to cut through 1/4 inch galvanized steel will this still work?

  • For all concerned...

Use both hands as this give you more control if the grinder gets caught up and tries to fly away. Wear face sheild and welding gloves.

The tool is somewhat heavy so let the weight be the pressure to do the work. NEVER force as the disc could shatter and shoot shrapnel or you smoke the motor

  • paste this -----> /watch?v=W69wh7QJP3U&feature=related

after youtube.com and you'll be sure to use a shield when you are using an angle grinder...

  • hello do metal working as a hobby and im 15 and i was wandering can u use a bench vice to hold the metal to cut it

  • A lot of manufacturing companies have stopped using a grinder for this type of work. I would strongly recommend that you do not use a grinder this way, however if you feel you must here are a few basic safety rules you should follow: 1 - Ware safety glasses and a face shield (yes both); 2 - ware a welders apron slacks and long sleeves; 3 - ware cut resistant gloves; 4 - Never remove the guard; 5 - Make sure that the part you are cutting is well fastened (both sides of the cut);

  • Most important lesson in this clip is the user comments on safety (not observed in the video). Grinder needs a disc guard, and the user should use both hands on the machine. The loose handle of the the clamp was on the verge of slipping into the path of the work piece too.

Altogether, not the best example, even if the guy produces fantastic metal work, the basics should be there first. I would watch a real safety tutorial, before instructions on use.

  • Agreed, the guard is the only thing between your face and a broken chunk of disc doing alot of miles per hour!

  • got me an old circular sawblade, gonna cut it and grind it into a knife or two with an angle grinder, anyone else tried that?

  • What's the thickest piece of metal one can reasonably expect to cut with a 4 1/2 inch angle grinder?

I have a pending project (several weeks away) which may require cutting 1/2 inch (1.27 cm) thick steel bar into several sections. Each cut will be roughly 2.5 inches (6.3 cm) long.

Currently trying to figure out the best way to accomplish this. The cuts must be fairly clean, so a cutting torch is out.

  • i want to cut a sqaure in a 9 guage aluminium wire mesh door. could i use an angle grinder??

    thank you

  • @lpmaythratail Yes, you can use angle grinder for that.

  • @lpmaythratail yes you can but buy a cutoff wheel made to cut aluminum, they dont clog.

  • must kill these * teachers *.newbie looking at this video, so no protection and will work. author of you - dunce

  • its a G clamp

  • @wotasod It is a C clamp. If you go to wikipedia it is also called G clamp. I've been in construction since the 1970's and I've never heard of a C clamp being called a G clamp. I've learned something new. So, I come to the conclusion that more often than not it's called a C clamp. The author was correct. I also noticed right away that he was using one hand and not two. If that grinder had caught or pinched it will cut flesh and bone it addition to metal. USE TWO HANDS.

  • can i cut a circle with it

  • @thelightingstrike You can't really cut a circle. You'll have to cut a bunch of straight cuts and then grind the points until the piece is round.

  • @TheAtHomeWelder I want to cut the middle piece of the frame on sunglasses that connect the lenses. think that's possible?

  • @TheAtHomeWelder Buy a plasma cutter.

  • 2 QUESTIONS. HOW MANY RPMS IS YOUR GRINDER AND IF I WANTED TO I COULD USE A GRINDER AS A CAR BUFFER? OR DO YOU THINK IT WILL BURN THE PAINT?

  • does anyone know how to change the disks ?????

  • way unsafe dude.. no guard plus you are holding it with one hand? THEY PUT THE OTHER HANDLE ON FOR A REASON DUDE. if that wheel catches it will sling back and cut more then metal. come on dude lets live a little longer..

  • it cut through like butter!

  • Harbor Freight FTW!!

  • this was very helpful, thank you for this video!!!

  • cool

  • not using shield, guard is as stupid as jumping from the train

  • @ntdsjgm I do believe we're looking at what his camera sees, not what he sees.

  • @schnappy00 I do believe we're watching here that there is no guard on the grinder, he doesn't see it, right.

When discs particles are nr 2 cause of deaths on welders building sites, and can easy pierce couple bodies in a row, you can believe whatever god or thing you want to.

  • @ntdsjgm amen

  • pss beginners.

you forgot to mention: If you cut without fender, then ALWAYS use safety glasses

  • u know nothig that aint a grinding disk it a cutting disk if u think ur all good and know everythink u right word and tems it aint hard to cut all types of metal get different corse disk or a dimond disk

  • dont know if i'm talking shit but whay was the tightening spanner not used when the wheel was 1st put on

  • as they all self tight ning u dont have to use a spaner to tightern it up

  • I hate to rain on his parade but first of all very unsafe technique...no guard in place. Rotation of the wheel is wrong...if the wheel binds in the cut, the grinder would go towards the operator and could cause serious injury or worse. Wheel should be rotating in a counterclockwise direction so if the wheel binds the grinder moves away from the operator. Not to mention sparks are directed away from the operator.....a lot of safety is built in to these wheels but accidents can and do happen.

  • Excellent point about rotation and the guard. I imagine he removed the guard for people to see the cutting action better.

But ya..... Always have those sparks moving away from you.

  • WAT the sparks will always come to u as if u let go the grinder would shoot away if the sparks where going away that means the grinder in rotating towards u i know ive just completed a corse on it ive used them since i were 13

  • i have a question.

ive used a dremel with a grinding wheel attached to it and it shattered(i think it was due to heat but im not sure). Given that the grinding wheel on dremels are thinner and weaker then those of angle grinders, would you shatter a grinding wheel on an angle grinder if your cutting for too long on one cut?

  • Very helpful, thanks for posting

  • thanks for this video i just bought an angle grinder and has wondering how i could cut with it

  • how much pressure do u use ?? thanks

  • u dont use any presure u make sure u start the cut at the top of the metal and let the grinder do the work as they just cut in and in and in so u just need a firm hand on it incase it bites

  • @tossers08 So do you apply light pressure or just use the weight of the tool?

  • Was that grinder from northern tool

  • thanks man

  • IncuboMafia - No problem! Glad you liked it.

  • They don't get dull, they just get smaller. What a great line that was.

This video was clear, to the point, and very helpful. Great stuff.

  • Neat tip!

    Thanks,

    John

  • VERY GOOD! HELPED ME OUT ALOT!THANX
