  • I am an EMT-B. This video showed the things that I feel everyday. Its nice because it reminds me that I am not the only one that feels this way so thank you for posting it. I hope that you do good, whatever you decide to do.

  • respect man , Im a NREMT-P don't ever give up !!! i say what other people say saying but be tuff man, its a hard but rewarding road!!!!!! keep it up man, no matter what anyone thinks it a tough job, only a few people can do it!!! good luck!!!

  • P.S. after reading some of the following comments from brothers and sisters in EMS telling you that you have to be (tough) and what we see (wont bother you) THEY ARE NOT THE NORM! We are! Dont believe them when they say that crap they feel it too or they would be monsters without a soul. They only deny it out of embarressment or fear because we are supposed to be the strong ones. Its ok to feel that way but going back everyday is what makes you strong!

  • Courage Strength and Bravery isnt about being so tough that you dont feel the pain, the wear and tear on your body, nerves and home life. It isnt about not crying after you lose a patient. Its about feeling all those things reliving them in your mind everyday. Its about crying when your alone for the child you tried to save and saying "nothing" when asked "whats wrong" because no one else would understand. Its about knowing all you know and doing it anyway!

  • @emmyb62006 I've been out for years and I still cry over some of my runs and lost patients.

  • I have been an EMT going on 5 years now and this video gave me a chill when I watched it. Its like you somehow was able to video our thoughts. Im sure some of those on your squad pick on ya about the video but they feel the same way I do when they watch it even though we dont like to admit it. You did a great job on this vid!

  • Awesome video....were you able to get The Frey to use their music for this video...if so, let me know the process, cause i wanted to put one together for the FD i volunteer for, using a different artist of course.

  • You are absolutely amazing! this video is so eerily touching. and i couldnt agree any more. no one understands what we go through what we see what we deal with on a personal level. i share a similar story in my ems career as you do. god bless you and keep your head up. thank you for this video.

  • Dude... all I can say is is that this video has helped me to keep on keeping on, knowing that most all EMT's have major stresses and hurts, both on and off the ambulance... It is just something that has helped me keep pursuing this. Thanks for the video... And I hope that someday you can get back into the saddle. Either way, you are an awesome hero!

  • my worst day as a paramedic was a pedatric cardiac arrest and a gsw x 6, that died later in the er. i dont ever recalling acting like this.

anyone who wants to do this job, you should know you have to be mentally tough. you cant internalize calls, because everybody dies one day. if im there in the twilight minutes of someones life, i put my training to the best use, but sometimes people still die. its not anybody's fault.

there is a high attrition rate in this job b/c it takes a certian type

  • @m2inla to do my beloved job. any good paramedic is a little off the normal in the head, but we still care and treat people the way i would want people to treat my parents in the event of a medical emergency.

  • this song makes me wanna cry, i love it so much! :)

  • thank you for this video...I'm a EMT student right now and about halfway done with my schooling (I graduate in May). You hit on soooo many topics that we just talk about in class, i'm sorry that you left EMS, and that you realized that something that you loved hurt you the most. I hope that your new carrer will bring you the same joy that EMS once did

  • I have a lot of respect for the people that work jobs like this. Being an Emergancy doctor, EMS, Police Officer, and 911 Operator. The amount of emotional, physical and mental effort you must apply to jobs like that, is incredibly high and very taxing. They all carry with them a role that leads to one thing - saving a life. Without you, many, many people wouldn't be here today. So thank you for all your hard work. And thank you for reminding me how much work it really is.

  • Thank you for sharing this. I understand.

  • I have worked in EMS in the Boston area for 2 years and it does tend to get crazy sometimes. Im sorry to hear that we lost you as an EMT, but good luck in whatever life brings you. this job is one of a kind. Nothing can compare to it, and that is both good and bad. To anyone that is looking to get into EMS, my advice is this, your co workers are your family. It becomes a brotherhood and you need to embrace that. Without them you will have nothing. Good luck to all.

  • Sorry you lose you out on the road man. Don't worry though. The next generation is here and we'll take care of your patients. You know we will. I hate burnout.

  • it hits on the emotions all of us in EMS feel in our personal lives

  • Dude I don't know if you realize it or not, but you have touched a lot of souls with this video! More than the view count could ever reflect. God Bless You!

  • Excellent Video!! Ive been a career EMT/Paramedic/firefigher for a total of 5 years. At times ive wondered if this job was really for me. As I watched this video, it was like a replay of my entire career. Weight gain, bad habits (Drinking and smoking) neither of which did I do when I started, and most of all the development of a short temper. I wondered if it was just me, but maybe it really is just me dealing with the job. Thanks again, great video!!!

  • thanks for doing the video, hope you were able to find some sanity in your new career. I've been doing this long enough I don't know if I would have it in me to do anything else.

  • wow, this is very good. thumbs up

  • This video is very well put together. I've been a EMT-B for 7 months, and about 1 year off and on with the Fire Department. I feel the same when i'm at work and off dutie, it's a very difficult job at times. but this video says it all. I'm also thinking of ending my carrer in the EMS field, under many reasons: Primaraly due to the things that EMT's go thru, And also never knowing when you are going to respond to your last call.

  • @junkie4jdm i know how u feel man one day i was in the back with a patient and he asked do u ever get tired of seeing these things i tolf him yea sometimes i just wanna end my career in ems. he then told me when you feel like ending your career it is what you do then that makes the biggest difference i am still an emt today because if that.

  • Incredibly poignant ... none of the first responder fields are easy. Thank you for this excellent video showing the harsh 'reality' that is the life of a medical responder.

  • Such an amazing video. I have been in the industry off and on for 6 years and full time for the last 2. This video tugs at the heart strings because I know and everyone who does this work knows where you are coming from. When there are the bad calls where you question things and contemplate your choice of work, friends and family are the one shoulder you can go to, to cry and hug. Take care my friend!

  • I commented on this before I ever started EMT-B, an EMT-I now it still is touching to me, I feel for you, just barely into the field and calls do haunt

  • Ten years.... still love the job.. career and volunteer

  • i love this video, this nice when u have a wreak, and your all alone to see emt to come to help

  • I'm currently taking emt basic couse at the local college to become a volunteer firefighter and emt. I'm serving in the US Army but i want to help people instead of taking lives. thx for all that u have done. God Bless you.

  • Great video and amazing song. I want to start taking EMT classes next semester and eventually become a paramedic. I don't want that day to come went I just can't handle it anymore. I can only imagine how hard it is when dealing with peoples lives and you see them die right in front of your eyes and there is nothing more you can do to save them. Then when you have to see people who were raped and abused having to deal with the families.

  • Please Smcner12 Never take down this video!

  • Going under the ladder tucks holding the flag was one of the worst days of my life. This video is so true with the nightmares and tension on relationships and other things like that. Great job.

  • I have been an EMT for 10 years .. I saw myself in all of what you shared ... thank you.

To all of you take care of yourselves.

  • Please do not ever take this video down. It's amazing!

  • My friend sent this to me to show me how he feels about being an EMT. I'm not saying I know how you feel, but I do feel for you. For everyone who does this. I know its not easy and I'm truly amazed by people can go through this much pain for people they've never even met before. And like, kidrad, you all have my complete respect. every time i hear this song I think about my friend. This is an amazingly powerful video. Good luck in your next career.

  • I created a Youtube account just to say this - you captured it perfectly, Sean.

  • In school to get my EMS degree atm, hope to avoid burnout, im a pretty detatched person..

  • that's the word I have been looking for. detatched...i just started Basic about a month ago. Im loving it so far and I hope I dont burn out either because honestly, now that I am involved in it I dont think I can ever turn back.

  • Aye looks like were in the same boat. :)

  • Yeah it is a good video, i'm a volunteer, hoping to continue my learning. It's tough u got to take a break, some alone time away from the job, try n forget the memories and dreams of what has passed, it is hard to stay detached and caring. i wish u all the best for ur future, and thanks for giving people a insgiht to what responders and other EMSl staff go through

  • I still want to be a paramedic

  • Very touching. You guys have all my respect!

  • our chosen profession is one of the most dangerous and the most stressful. you never know if the last call you go on is your last. good luck to you.

  • I know where your coming from. I quit as a medic last year after 12 years of service. Needed "my time" to take care of me. After almost a year off the bus, I find myself missing it. I am going back to it, in small steps, as a part time medic. We all have something to give. This isn't a job, its a calling and a lifestyle. I hope that you take what you learned, both the good and the bad, while in EMS and continue to make positive changes in your community. One person does make a difference.

  • I viewed the your original video when you first posted it...ever since then, this song has really hit home coming back from alot of rough calls. This video gives a unique perspective into the stress and trauma we inherit from other people's tragidies. Great job and good luck in whatever you decide to do next.

  • one of the most beautifull video in youtube..!!!thx

  • I work in a nursing home with Alzheimer's and dementia patients. it also can be very hard on you mentally and emotionally. It's a sad and lonely place for many who live there. Many never have any family that come to visit. I have sacrificed my breaks & lunches to sit with those who are close to death. I have clocked out and gone back in on my own time just to sit and hold their hand as they take their last breath. I still love it though. If the day comes that I don't, it's time to leave.

  • Great video, you really caputured the world of ems

  • I used to nurse in Oncology ward and i feel the same way...Training to be a paramedic now. Nice vid!

  • bro theres definetely room for you in the movie making industry if you leave ems, this is a GREAT vid here. i hope to be in the EMS/Fire dept. too. thanks for this

  • My friend I have been there and done this as an EMT & Firefighter. Anyone who is not in this line of work can not even possibly conceive what it's like...Nor would I want them to. We see the worst of human suffering and it really works on a good man's soul. I totally dig this video as deep, truthful and heartfelt as it is. You make good light of what we go through. May peace be with you my brother.

  • You have real talent. Not only to make a movie look good, but you captured the true heart of EMS...the good and the bad. It's not a glamorous career. Thanks for showing the world its a tough job...and we're not just 'ambulance drivers'. Good luck in your new career. I hope it all works out for you. We'll miss you on the streets.

  • We all know when to recognize the look in someone elses eyes, but it takes a great strength to recognize it in your own. And even further strength to know that it's time to leave. I hope when I see that look in the mirror, I have the same strength of character that you demonstrated.

Cheers, and best of luck in life beyond.

  • do you have any regrets about ems?

  • I love this video you put together. Please don't take it down.
