This is hands down one of the best sound tracks ever created for a video game... Mechwarrior 2 was a great game... but i use to use the Mechwarrior 2 disk as the Soundtrack for Starsiege Tribes..... ownage stuff.. wouldnt trade those memories for any amount of money
True. Gaming in the 90's was awesome. ESPECIALY the music think about it. Ninja Gaiden, The Revenge of Shinobi, C&C Red Alert, Mech Warrior, Kid Chameleon. All had Epic sound tracks
@signofdevil666 Me too!! Once you hear this kind of music, you realize that little else other than other game soundtracks compares to this soundtrack.
Some of these tracks remind me of Eric Serra's film music from the same era (Serra is probably best known for composing soundtracks for Leon and Goldeneye - both films from the mid 90s, which is when Mechwarrior was also released).
They seem to use similar sounds, mainly pitched percussion, industrial noises and electronic effects.
There is an interesting interview with Jeehun Hwang (composer of the music for Mechwarrior 2) from 1998 on the soundonsound website archive.
My favorite PC online game of all time. When my friend had cancer in 1994-95 and was stuck at home we played this head to head for months.
We weren't very strategists about it. Normally run as fast as we could to the other as blow them up lol. I remember it was usually Dire Wolf vs Dire Wolf.
I think it gave him the will to live! (He is still alive). Fond memories for sure.
I am very happy for your friend, and it also makes sense - stories of people whose recovery from cancer was helped by keeping a psychological well-being are not unheard.
Okay....I MAY have it here. If we are talking about the same thing I'll look for it in my collections. I just remembered all the times I played this game....I never ignored the intro......I felt like it was much bigger than the game itself. I'll take a look and follow up.

god damn these seriously some of the best soundtracks ever put to a game....someone did their job well...I remember playing and the music always fit perfectly to the mission
Well here we are in Winter 2011 and not a single trailer, screenshot, or announcement since the original unveiling. But hey, if Duke Nukem Forever can get released, so can Mechwarrior 5
@Mechonized Simply insert the disc and exit out of the start up menu that pops up and go to Windows media player and click burn. It will take anywhere from 1-5 minutes to copy the music to your computer. You will at least get these tracks and maybe a few exclusive others depending on what version of the game you have .
Hot damn, only ever had MechWarrior 2 and that one for the original Playstation. I barely remember it all, but this music, I never realized. The 2nd theme was the theme in that dark mountainous planet, right? Damn, this is all going on my iPod.
"Wolves on the Prowl" is also known as "Umber Wall", "Heatsink" is also known as "Plum Wine", "PPC People" is also known as "Rogue Chariot", & "The Lance Awaits" is also known as "Golden Spade". I have the soundtrack.
@NerdyTB There are 3 names for each track for some reason depending on what version you have. I will update the video once I have a complete list of all name variants.
Post your favorite mech from the game. Mine is the Nova, it's got a low profile, can run like hell, and is deadly in the right hands if equipped correctly.
@AFreakinProblem I wish I had the opportunity to play the Mechwarrior games, I've only played Mechassault sadly, once I learned more about Mechwarrior it looks so much better, but anyways, I know its not quite the same series, but from Mechassault my favourite was the Cougar. Where can I get this game? Or get a crack of it?
@Lazoraz If you want a good MW game get MW4: Mercs. That has all of the mechs from MA and more including the Cougar and also has the best gameplay by far (Excluding MW2 but good luck find a copy and getting that to work). Ebay is the best place to find a new/used copy.
Hans Zimmer did NOT compose this. It was (As Epsence008 said) Jeehun Wang with several other artists for each mw2 game. In the MW2 classic it was Gregory Alper and Jeehun Wang.
Oh my!!! Thanks for bring my old gamer times with this!!!! This was my favorite game on PC, The very First demo of this game came in a Microsoft Games released on 1995. A lot of games came in that cd promo and you needed an S3 Virge video card of 12MB to play it...then when I got the Game CD, Hell my favorite!!! Thanks Man!!!!
This stuff is great wish I could get these tracks from some where. I remember mech 2 mercs. I was too young too really get into it but it was still fun. Mech 3 is where I really got into mechwarrior then mech 4 and mech4 mercs now I don't play any more too many hackers no heat games lame eight year old graphics engine and the technology and vista kinda makes it hard to get it running any more.
Yeah the first game uses Sprites put over an isometric plane (like Diablo 2 or other old RTS games) it's visuals are great looking considering their simplicity, the combat is fluid and dynamic and the missions can be very difficult.
The second game is done in 3d and while is superior in many aspects especially the mech customization, selection and pilot skills, there is something less "charming" about it.
Oh man! how to say...It was the very first hardcore war machines game with so many action! and the music was so into the game that you would love it from the very first mission...
i had a timber wolf varient with 10 er medium lasers and like 14 or 16 tons of heat sinks, once i got within 510 meters, id walk the trigger and kill dire wolves and war hawks in like 5 seconds! does this game work on a vista equiped computer? landing complete is the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have the original disc sitting in the house somewhere. This soundtrack was epic when epic was but a noob. I remember listening to this over 13 years ago when I first got the CD...
ah, sweet memories of overheating... I just pulled out my Mechwarrior 4 the other day and pulled together with the Davion Guard against Katrina Steiner!
there is nothing compared to being part of the orginal honorable wolfs now the honorable ones are called the exiled but we still stand true to the ways of the kerensky hail kerensky long live clan wolf!
Sure there is, being part of an actual clan, Clan Jade Falcon, one that isn't afraid to fight and stand up for what it believes in and doesn't go under handed, sneaky and indirect ways of solving their problems.
you will not loop us with those acursed crusader wolfs under the blood massicrate that is ward! besides youi tricked us you use dan entire star to kill out ilkhan you will not speak of underhanded tricks falcon!
Doesn't go under handed? What do you call the act of your saKhan violating the terms of a duel and ambushing his opponent with two stars of missile boats then? Besides, a wise warrior is one who believes that the best fight is one that is avoided. Hail Kerensky, long live Clan Wolf.
Same here! But on other versions of mechwarrior 2 'Landing Complete' is actually called 'Locust Battle' which I think is a little more suitable. And I know that 'Wolves on the prowl' is also called 'War drums'.
These tracks sound fairly different than what I remember, oh yeah that's right I originally heard them on some old ISA type soundcard on my grandma's old Sony Vaio! The Lance Awaits sounds extremely epic on one of those.
All you guys commenting about the nostalgia days of Mechwarrior....ever get a chance to play in the 'Pods' they had at certain arcade-like venues? They were essentially mech cockpits with 35" screens. Foot pedals to rotate the torso, an acceleration/deceleration lever on the left hand, a joystick with lasers/gauss/missile buttons on it, various displays on the top to swap heat sinks due to overheats or dump missile jams. Super duper complex stuff, and some of the most fun I've ever had!
Very fun, but the managers usually kept most of the advanced features off. You also lost the chance to customize mechs in a lab, and the whole game felt like Mechwarrior's zenith title, MW4. Fun in spite of all of that, though.
Oh man, these were the good times. I remember putting on some headsets and going to bed with this music on. Too bad no Mechwarrior till now can bring back that same feeling that Mechwarrior 2 gave.
It might rise back up, someday. The original owners of Battletech/Mechwarrior did get licensing rights from Microscum for Mechwarrior and many other of their titles.
Reason why it's taking so long is probably because they established a new company, and trying to undo all the damage Microsoft and Wizkids did to their games is probably quite extensive.
I'm looking at more than the X-Box fail, I'm looking at the destruction of two companies, the split continuity (Classic Battletech vs Wizkids), the board game licensing being owned by the dead Wizkids. Also, I highly doubt Microscum gave Wiesman any of their game engines or the original staff back.
I mean, wow, just how much more could one do to hurt a franchise?
i played this when i were "young". I just put the cd-rom into a cd-player and you could listen to the sountrack - even tracks were able to choose - Those were the days ...
Ah, I fucking miss Mechwarrior. Step downward though it was, Mech4 was at least tolerable. Now, I doubt we'll ever see a return to the better days of Mech2, with 5 having been shitcanned years ago.
love the Mechwarroior games i have #3 and all of the Mecwarrior 4 cds...and the music is just terrific...U know i often wondered what it would be like to actually own an Atlas or a Madcat or any Mech for that matter...thanks for posting the soundrack.
I tried that once to see what would happen and wen the soundtrack started playing I took it out and put it in my computer and copied the music to windows media player.

Aff, unfortunately it was at an anime convention and such technology was wasted on freebirth stravags, quiaff?

aff, I got my first taste when the "pods" visited Toronto's CN TOWER - hooked on Mechwarrior ever since. My favorite was Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries.

Very fun, but the managers usually kept most of the advanced features off. You also lost the chance to customize mechs in a lab, and the whole game felt like Mechwarrior's zenith title, MW4. Fun in spite of all of that, though.

Yes, those were an absolute thrill. Too bad they were so expensive us kids though.

Oh man, these were the good times. I remember putting on some headsets and going to bed with this music on. Too bad no Mechwarrior till now can bring back that same feeling that Mechwarrior 2 gave.

Wolves on the prowl remind me of Ghost Bear's Legacy, when I used to play with the Stone Rhino. Man... I love MechWarrior 2!
TekkamanRain 3 years ago
Ghost Bear's legacy also used that one piece of music I just didn't include it in my GBL videos because I already had it here.

It makes me sad that MechWarrior is dead/dying...

You can blame all the jerks that killed FASA. I also heard that there might be... never mind.
blackyoshi1230 3 years ago
It might rise back up, someday. The original owners of Battletech/Mechwarrior did get licensing rights from Microscum for Mechwarrior and many other of their titles.
Reason why it's taking so long is probably because they established a new company, and trying to undo all the damage Microsoft and Wizkids did to their games is probably quite extensive.
Firestorm2900 3 years ago 2
Yeah, mechassault just killed mechwarrior. Mechassault has nothing in common with mechwarrior other than the storyline and the mechs.
frogjedi4 3 years ago
I'm looking at more than the X-Box fail, I'm looking at the destruction of two companies, the split continuity (Classic Battletech vs Wizkids), the board game licensing being owned by the dead Wizkids. Also, I highly doubt Microscum gave Wiesman any of their game engines or the original staff back.
I mean, wow, just how much more could one do to hurt a franchise?
Firestorm2900 3 years ago
I don't know.
I also want to hope that the old FASA team (under whatever company name they're under right now) can get Activision back for another Mech sim.
blackyoshi1230 3 years ago 3
Looks like Shadowrun also disintegrated into epic fail after FASA went under.

"Landing Complete" is my favorite from the soundtrack, and one of my favorite video game songs of all time.

i played this when i were "young". I just put the cd-rom into a cd-player and you could listen to the sountrack - even tracks were able to choose - Those were the days ...
cXilion 3 years ago
Ah, I fucking miss Mechwarrior. Step downward though it was, Mech4 was at least tolerable. Now, I doubt we'll ever see a return to the better days of Mech2, with 5 having been shitcanned years ago.
DSFARGEG00 3 years ago
love the Mechwarroior games i have #3 and all of the Mecwarrior 4 cds...and the music is just terrific...U know i often wondered what it would be like to actually own an Atlas or a Madcat or any Mech for that matter...thanks for posting the soundrack.

Good times, good times.
Does iTunes carry this sound track? I have the 2 (yes there were only 2) tracks from Mechwarrior 3 on my iPod.
GhostBear3067 3 years ago
I've checked and no itunes does not.
frogjedi4 3 years ago
seriously, if someone has these and is willing to share them it would be MUCH appreciated. this was my childhood lol
ral47 3 years ago
Agreed.
I grew up playing MW2. Counterstrike kiddies would've **** their pants back then at the sight of a fully loaded Atlas. No AWP here, kid!
Predwolf2 3 years ago
These are the tracks for any version of MechWarrior 2: 31st Century Combat. Thanks for posting! This was my favorite game. I wish they'd make a MW5.
raby760 3 years ago
I've had these on my ipod for a while but I never knew the track names. Are these the official track names?
paulv1973 3 years ago
Yes and no, the names change based on what disc you have. It's either titanium or platinum. I used titanium for this.
frogjedi4 3 years ago
Just play the game CD's in a regular CD player. You have to skip the first few blank tracks, but after that, you can play all the songs!
benfirst 3 years ago
I tried that once to see what would happen and wen the soundtrack started playing I took it out and put it in my computer and copied the music to windows media player.
