  • You have to ask yourself, if Superman were not around, would Lois Lane have survived her ordeal of getting tied up and being lowered down to the lava pit. In fact, would Lois Lane put herself in that position when she sneaked inside the robot.

  • They made this cartoon 1941 ?

  • I like in these Fleischer cartoons how Superman's powers have more limitations...makes the character more fallable and believable...brilliant artwork too

  • Anyone else notice how the movie "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" borrowed imagery and ideas from this cartoon?

  • this cartoon is awesome

  • Oh man, this brings back memories! lol

  • Those Mechanical Monsters would've made the best Maverick Mechanaloids in ANY Mega Man X game! Think about it.

  • The Mechanical Monsters is the second in the famous Fleischer series of Superman cartoons and contains two notable "premieres" -- the first time Superman uses his x-ray vision and the first time Clark Kent uses a phone booth to change into Superman. In this short, Metropolis is the scene of a series of strange crimes.

  • Does anyone know if there is a dvd available with all these old superman episodes on? i had 2 vhs tapes when i was little with them on.They both were in card sleeves.one was orange and one was light blue.I would love to own them on dvd.

  • Yes, they ARE available on DVD.

  • Love the way these artists rendered these cartoons back in the day. This stomps CG. Note the detail in all of this. THAT!...is talent. lol.

  • Crazy to think how long it must have taken them. This is real animation.

  • Yeah, it is insane. lol.

  • @Gggmanlives Dude, this came out a month before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. November 1941.

  • With the budget these cartoons were on ($50,000 in then-dollars, about $750,000 in now-dollars), they'd best have brought in the best of the best. These cartoons smoke everything and anything that came out after it.

  • Ha ha ha! I second that!

  • @JoeHardy15 Not that you're going to see this because your comment is three years old, but they cheated a bit- these cartoons were traced over live footage in a process called rotoscoping. That's how they were able to achieve the level of smoothness and detail.

  • One of the most greatest things of this cartoon is big animation work it has. cartons don´t have that kind of work now. look a the darker and deeper shadows and the fluid animation the robots has.

  • This truly birngs back my inner child, one of my many inspirations to take up art n animation :D

    This is epic

  • Who do you would win in a fight? Superman or Mega Man?

  • Holy cow! 5:24: Eyes should not open like that on a realistically rendered character! I'm gonna have nightmares.

  • that.. was f-ing sick.

  • See all those gunshots?

They'd never allow that in today's superhero movies

  • you mean superhero cartoons

  • Higher quality in my videos.

  • Isn't that the same mechanical monsters as in the sky captain and the world of tomorrow?

  • yeah dude, the sky captain was inspired by robots in this movie as also by other movies like Metropolis(1927) or THX 1138

  • "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" influences the droids in "The Mechanical Monsters". Do the robots in "Sky Captain" look familiar? Watch the movie and then, watch this YouTube video and notice the similarities.

  • Yes, they look similar..

  • Apparently, this cartoon influenced Asimov on 'How Not to Depict Robots'. I have to admit, hearing the police cry "Look! It's the Mechanical Monster!" made me laugh. Nervously.

  • An inventor kidnaps Lois Lane and Superman must stop her and battles the army of robots.

  • 4:40- Lois:"ooh, another opportunity to be stupid!"

  • first of congrats to the villian for banging lois's pussy at 6.34...superman is one crazy motherfucker..ruining those electicity cable..the villian should have shoved them up his ass.

  • And then what? Superman would just take them out and destory them. Like that shit's gonna stop the blue boy scout.

  • wat do u think happens at 6:34?

  • Dude: "So, you won't tell me!"

    Lois: "mmmpf! mmpfmmpf!"

Dude: "You'll soon change your mind!"

    She's gagged, idiot!

  • where did u get this from i have been trying to find it for ages.

  • wow superman also has super clothes. that lava didnt even crease it :D

  • These had such great animation.

  • is that Tesla?

  • Yep. With a little incrimination by the US energy suppliers.

  • Too bad people don't acknowledge their influences these days (what is that? A new Hollywood thing?) But a very obvious influence on Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.

  • Cool shit...love these cartoons.

  • Superman has always been one of my best cartoon heroes.

  • What a classic :-D Thanx for uploading it...my 5 yr old really likes Superman :-D
