  • I saw them play a private show in a basement in a house in Long Island and I was literally standing against his keyboards

  • To the hater up top, I say unto thee...

Well first off, where's your band? Let's hear the art YOU'RE making.

But more importantly, I've played with Joe in several bands since 1997 in Fat Mama, and he's one of the most creative and tasteful drummers you will never play with. I had a full scholarship to college for playing drums, so I am eminently qualified to tell you, that he is a fucking phenomenon. Don't hate just because you didn't turn out to be quite the musician you hoped to be.

  • you cant even her russo

  • My pet goat...is that not the book G.Bush was reading during the attack on 911? And he had the book upside down? Pretending he was listening to the kids read while he sat there. If anyone wants to research what that upside down goat represented, you will be amazed at what you find.

  • @blite13 sffgjdgaerryjs

  • @MrRaulkusak right back at ya.

  • I have seen them for years... in 2006 they accidentally set a speaker on fire because they were tearing it up so aggressively.

Well.. that is awesome, isn't it.

Beautiful stuff... sounds like Squarepusher sometimes, but they are live as living. Adore it... good times, thanks.

  • still fun to jam out to. admit it queer.

  • Who cares what they're capable of. I just listenned to this song and it sounds like two beginner musicians to me. But yeah, they're world class if you say so.

  • I dont know keyboards very well, but ive played drums for most my life and its pretty funny hearing you describe someone as talented as joe russo as a beginner. :)

  • no theyre world class because the world says so. stupid.

oh... and beginner drummers dont go on furthur tour. Stupid.

  • Just see them live. this basically isn't live the sound quality is disgusting. @PositiveEdge

  • simply beautiful. the opposite of pretentious.

  • this is sooooooooo much fuckin betta than umphsss i love em long live lsd

  • my pet goat is the book bush was reading on 9/11 to the children weeeeeeee

  • He had the book upside down...that is symbolism at it's best

  • saw dem open 4 trey n mike gordon

    whatchu no about dat

  • just ILL!

  • amazing drums in this song!!

  • a simple-but-innovative-as-hell orgasm

  • better than an orgasm.

  • progjazzfusion

    your fuckin gay nuff said

  • To progjazzfusion:

Stop thinking with your mind and start thinking with your heart, buddy. This is far from a 'simple jamming exercise'. Just because you identify elements of simplicity in a song doesn't make it bad. Open up a little man.

  • 'Stop thinking with your mind' is terrible advice!

  • Peifferjr1, yeah it would seem that way wouldn't it?

  • Hey what the F? I can't hear anything on my headphones. They work fine every where else on the net. What gives with youtube?

  • i bet the volume on your video is turned all the way down.

  • operator error

  • holy fuck this is crazy...

progjazzfusion - ur a big big fag

    p.s ur a HUGE fag

    why even bother like honestly.

  • wow.

  • hmm...just simple improvisation over a couple of repetative chord inversions.

from a musician's standpoint, it's just a basic jamming exercise, not something to build a style off of. I guess people like simple repetitive sounding things. But "new" or "nuts" or "amazing" it is not. It's easy to improv music like this, but most musicians choose not to because it's like just noodling, which I guess most jam music is.

  • LOL by trying to sound like an informed musician you've made yourself sound quite stupid. Shall we stereotype jazz as well? Is this not Bad Plus enough for your taste?

  • I cant see how anyone can say this is 'new' or 'nuts' or 'amazing' or whatever, because music like this has been around since at least the 60's so it's certainly not new. and not nuts or amazing as probably 80% of all musicians can play something like this on the spot, they just choose not to as it's just simple noodling more or less. but you can like it, i'm not saying it's bad. just not new, nuts or amazing. maybe to an average fan in their 20's this is their 1st exposure to jam noodle music.

  • welnerjm, what do you mean is this not bad plus enough for you? im not saying these guys are bad at all, in fact i saw joe russo play with the Gene Ween band and he was amazing, but my friend, these two musicans really cannot compare with the Bad Plus...

this music sounds really cool, but to me, just isnt as substantial as alot of other jazz, phish, bad plus, medeski martin and wood, etc

  • are you kidding, Russo is just doing a basic jam on the drums, and from a musicians stand point you should be able to appreciate something that you consider "simple"

  • You're entitled to your opinion, and with your affinity for prog, jazz, and fusion I can see where you're coming from. But I look at the duo like this, Marco is a savant when it comes to finding a hook that creates the foundation of a song. The story... This music, though simple, is about so much more than the music. I listen to this music for the feelings it evokes in me more than the pleasure of executing a scale (dare I say an exercise?).

PS The duo shit on complex time sigs. Russo is a god!

  • but it sounds good.

  • lol you dont get it, do you?

simplicity is what makes the duo so good

  • no i guess i dont get it. as a musician this is easy and nearly anyone can play this stuff. I listen to some simpler kinds of jazz and fusion at times (mostly on the ECM label) that has both a simplicity along with an underlying complexity at different levels that make them able to be enjoyed either as a simple art like this russo stuff, or as a deeper art, depending on what the listener wants to take from it at the time, but this russo stuff sounds like its only on one simple level all the time

  • well first off, music is not good because it is complex or dificult to play.

But more importantly, its impossible to enjoy music when you try to listen in to a certain element of it. Singers often are bored by instrumental music because they are subconsciously wating for the vocals to kick in. This causes a disconnect between the listener and the music- the listener is focusing on what is absent from the music and because of this is unable to absorb what is PRESENT.

  • @vassilli0s this is bullshit, I am a singer, I love instrumentals, you can kick in ambiance vocals, I dont agree. I does this myself

  • complexity =/= quality

anyone can play a large amount of music out there. just its playable doesnt mean its bad.

  • progjazzfusion you're obviously a disgruntled wanker who is pissed because no one cares how fast one can play anymore or how complex music is, the 70's are over broseph!

  • these guys are world class musicians. benevento studied with mehldau. russo is just straight up kickass. and this song is simple because it is trying to convey an emotion. if you dont feel it, then im sorry. but the duo are capable of highly complex "progjazzfusion" (which is clearly the shit you like (you're a tool btw)). just check out 9x9 or sonny's song from best reason to buy the sun. and do us all a favor and grow up.

  • Makes my spine tingle for 3 minutes straight. Seen them a few times and nothing would make me happier then to see them again!

  • a freind of mine saw these guys at lallapalooza along side Daft Punk, he said they were nuts and his word holds true.

  • This is mighyt mighty i just found this by accident..Holy holy..just when I get bored of music, I haven't heard it all. I liked it a soon as I heard it.I have never heard of this band until now

  • regeneration music festival july '07: The duo begin their set at 3 AM, playing well into dawn. The boys took down an entire bottle of makers mark before they left the stage, while the crowd enjoyed a several free kegs...fond memories (that is...the ones that remain)

  • I know you'd come to Europe. Please come again but this time pass in Portugal!!

  • I love Marc's melodies and Joey's tempo....really amazing!

  • this is amazing... i need to find their music...

  • F***ck YEAH!!!

  • GREAT!!!!

  • Thanks for posting this. Wish I had been making my yearly trip to MD in 05. :( this is insanity, smoking insanity! :)

  • great ending picture...nice shot of the boys giving eachother a high five. I bet they proceeded to hop on a week long Maker's Mark binge after this tour was over...oh wait, their entire life is a Maker's Mark binge. I LOVE THE DUO!

  • Well, now that this is out we should vote this thing up to get The Duo some exposure from it on YouTube... It IS a great video. Great sound (and lights) too.

  • ragin goat...wow
