Wished Nokia sent Australia the 850MHz Version aswell as the 900MHz version so I won't have to downgrade to a less fast less coverage provider when/if I decide to buy a new phone... N8 will probley be out buy the time I have money to spear so I suppose it doesn't matter =/

@TiagoTiagoT I think you might be talking about the N8? On Nokia Australia website the N900 only supports 900/1700/2100MHz WCDMA. I want the Nokia N8 now anyways and it supports all the GSM and 3G bands :)

@17suki7o some some apps are free others aren't, i believe there is a free one for mms functionality, and there are probably lots of audio recorders; btw, it's not a phone, it's a mobile computer that happens to have phone functionality. Maemo is the name of the operating system used, it's a "flavor" of linux made for devices like the N900. Btw, you should look into setting up repositories, there are lots of programs there that aren't on Ovi. Perhaps it would be good for you to check maemo.org

Do you consider yourself a tech-savvy person? Do you use Linux on your PC? Would you not mind having to tinker with the phone to get it to work? Buy an N900.

Don't care about the "potential" of your phone? Want it to be completely ready to go out of the box? Get an N97.

Other than that the review is just to the point, as a developer I'm more excited about this than other phones because its Linux and its completly open. The options are infinite.

nokia has been putting in I.R. transmitters since a very long time..

i've had a nokia N95 8GB for almost 2 years now, and it has one.. i remember a friend with a nokia smart phone 5 years ago, and his phone had one.

so its not really something new. for the U.S., maybe. but we've had this technology available on almost all Nokia phones for a very long time.

but as you pointed out, people might be able to do wonders if rightly worked out and developed further.

well, i havnt used the n810 but the n900 looks really good, big storage, good camera, good web browser, multitasking, OS, etc etc, it pretty much beats everything in it's class exept for the htc's, but i pref the n900 due to it looks, keyboard,camera and OS(+something else i belive) ;) hope it helped a little^^

When you get this hand held computer you will realize its much better than any HTC. or phone. I truly is a computer. The Applications are powerful. 500 is a steal. You almost got this review right.. There is a program already for a universal remote for the N900 called irreco.. and memory could be expandable to 64GB (when the 32 GB MicroSD comes out; Nokia have tried using a 32GB MicroSD and worked).. And there are two ways to unlock the N900 (power button, and the unlock slider thingy)..

There is already an open source universal remote application that can be used with the N900 it is called Irreco.

Just search for N900 Irreco here on youtube and watch.

You can basically create a custom remote for anything.
