I would happily watch a live action Macross movie, but only if it had the massive Hollywood budget to match. Unfortunately I think Japan's movie industry lacks the same level of Inception/Transformers/Harry Potter special effects budget at the moment to do a good adaptation. Great trailer, it would have been even better if you'd had a stage shot of 'Minmei' - maybe a silhouette under a stage light?

Nationality has little to do with it. The director of DBZ was asian and the writers of the movie were the original writers of the show!

It takes passion to make a good movie. I hope indeed that the director and writers of Macross LOVE the series; enough to make a good movie, not just fan service.

Indeed, the actors weren't terrible. I have seen worse, yes I am looking at you Dragon Wars. Rather, they had a glint of enthusiasm in their eyes. But, the storyline felt so convoluted. It was too painful to watch like. It was like I was chewing on glass.

@JamesBond77 Actually..Robotech is what helped bring dubbed anime over to the US, so without that we might not see too many dubs here, and Macross, Macross Plus, and Macross 2 have been dubbed here, because harmony gold was done with the Macross saga, and moved onto it's own new and original thing.

i've watched every single series of teh MAcross Saga. i've seen Super Dimensional Southern Cavalry and Genesis Climber Mospeada. All amazing in there original format.

Macross by itself is AMAZING. and my Robotech collection box is now collecting dust. (i love you nekki basara/ranka lee/Sheyrl Nome/Mylene Flare Genius/Mao Nome/ many other Macross Afiliated Characters =3)

Roy Fokker was an American air force pilot not Japanese. How many Japanese guys do you know named Roy. Captain Global. in Robotech he was Spanish in Macross he was British. Claudia was black and Rick hunter is also not a Japanese name. Lisa Hayes Caucasian Min May was the only confirmed asian character in Robotech. At least in MAcross Rick's name was actually Hikaru Ichigo. that would of had at keast two asian cast members.

I'd never seen one before today, i watched two. i wont do it again, unless the fake trailer contains cg of the macross itself... even then, i prolly wont like it. macross would suck in live action anyway, lets hope a macross movie (or robotech) never happens. take a moment and think about it, a hollywood movie, were brittney spears (or hannah montana, or what-have-you)sings a song and defeats alien destructors... it would go over like Final Fantasy: Spirits Within

Unless a Peter Jackson shows up and treats the original like a work of art, the story like a bible, and the characters like fine statuary and understands live action movies were created to show us the stories we loved from before come to life, not those stories to be changed completely. I think it could work in the right hands, but you're right, the potential is there for a disaster.

King Kong wasn't everything I hoped for (and actually neither was LOTR), but Jackson does care enough about his characters to go into their back-stories, develop them, and not just use them as window dressing. I'd suggest a Japanese director for Macross in an ideal world actually; they would be better at identifying and communicating the themes.

Don't forget World in Conflict, Universe at War, Godzilla Final Wars, and Serenity (as well as the voice over which is from Dark Void)! I thought the looks of AC4 and Macross were pretty close.

not at all, AC4 deals with big agile machines and macross is jets that can shapeshift into a human form, all in all macross jets would be faster and AC's would be tougher and harder hitting

True, but all the Mech Warrior games looked bad. I meant the general beak-like look of the robots, and the smaller black mechs which look like armored Zentraddi (at least to me). I would have used Gundam, but that wouldn't have looked realistic and been too obvious.

BTW: If they're making Speed Racer (fer crying out loud) why not Macross???

first off, mech warrior is the furthest mech game you can mention to this besides steel battalion because they are just big tanks, next, gundam and AC's are actually rather close in general and the final one, macross, i have yet to see in any game and besides transformers is the only one i know that shapeshifts. my personal preference is either mech warrior or the mechs in FMP, the whole cloak concept just rocks

Yeah! It really is my favorite anime series because it has two sides to a conflict, both almost equally sympathetic. There are heroes and villians on both sides so the war is really a battle of heroes, not just a vain squabbling. There's history in the story too, more then in many animes I've seen.
