The mandatory minimums don't kick in unless you have 6 or more plants. I've read and reread the Bill, and don't see any mandatory minimum for having 5 or less plants. If I'm wrong, please let me know where it states mandatory minimum for 1 plant. It's still a ridiculous Bill and a complete waste of police resources(especially in regards to cannabis).
Basically it's law now. All that's required is for the Governor General to sign off on it. The only good thing is the Liberals in the Senate put in a small amendment removing the mandatory minimum for 6-200 plants(only if you live in a rural area though). This amendment pissed off the Justice Minister, which is about the only good thing I'd say the Senate did in regards to this Bill. It's time to fight hard for legalization of cannabis or else the laws will just get stricter.
6 months for more than 6 plants(if you own the house). 9 months for more than 6 plants (if you rent the house/aparment). Also, 9 months for over 6 plants if there are minors in the residence.
Does anyone know when the Senate is expected to make a decision on this Bill? Can they make revisions to the Bill, or does it have to be passed the way it is written now?
The Bill has passed in the Senate. The only amendment they made was to remove the mandatory minimum for having between 6-200 plants, if the grower is living in a rural area. If you live in an urban area, the mandatory minimum still applies for having over 5 plants.
O' Canada - The New Fascist State
Bill C-15:
We in Canada now have mandatory minimum of jail for 9 months for having 1 single plant.
Prisions are also now being privitized.
