This is ground shaking stuff. I thought Hammersmith was amazing and then this arrived. Thank you so much for posting. The 9/19 show is way better than 9/20 in my opinion. If for no other reason than the poster cranked up the volume when he downloaded plus they mixed it in a pretty unique way. You hear a lot of different instruments much clearer than other recordings.
Within in the past day, pretty much every video from this concert was flagged for copyright!!!!! That is terrible! It was never released by anyone!!! How is it copyright? I'm just going to keep watching this video in case they take it down soon!
@Uglywimp It's really, really annoying. I really wanted to watch and listen to Candy's Room from that concert. What if I'll never find it again? That would the greatest shame of shames. I mean, if only someone actually would release this stuff, I'd be happy to pay.
I just cannot believe this was never on the LIVE 75-85 album. The live version , especially this one , my favorite, takes the song to something supernatural. In 1978 , the Darkness Tour, he made every concert an incredible EVENT.

It's an almost impossible thing to do, but if one were forced to pick a single day in history when Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band was at their absolute peak collectively, I think you could make a very good case that September 19, 1978 was it. And I don't need to explain why. Just watch this video. Blistering.
Prove It is so superior to badlands ---a fair amount better than promised land---btw i was at this show----was a crappy weather night---bruce warmed the place up inside though
No words I can come up with will capture the awe I feel every time I watch this video. This and 'In Memory of Elizabeth Reed' are the best two live rock performances ever recorded.
Having just watched the colour version of Elvis doing Jailhouse Rock i thought wow that guy has to be the most charismatic performer ever. Then i viewed this, which frankly makes Elvis seem like a cardboard cut out.
I am not a die-hard but love Bruce....this song is stuck in my head...unconsciously just in my head...oh..yeah....darkness at the edge of town too....this video rocks!
Legendary concert ... a great rock artist at the top of his game .... Bruce on guitar makes me wonder why he ever needed Little Steven ... put this in a time capsule.
This is the shit..who the hell as a rock front man has the same power and passion as bruce'i really cant think of any and its not only the one song it s the 3 +hours full of power.
This is the shit..who the hell as a rock front man has the same power and passion as bruce'i really cant think of any and its not only the one song it s the 3 +hours full of power.
I am willing to bet that Bruce has never felt cooler on stage than he did when he was shredding this intro. It is absolutely tremendous. A once in a lifetime performance, probably composed by the band members that day before they went on stage. Just brilliant
I tell you what i've been listening to this song like crazy the last month, I finally found it on cd the full version like this, so I made the ringtone on my phone 2:34-3:04 its badass. My girlfriends is 0:34-1:04 Guess u can call me a sucker for great music
What an amazing version of a great song. Despite all the praise of Bruce and Clarence, I can't stop thinking of how brilliant Roy Bittan is at the piano; he makes this song.
i think its cool to look at this video and then look at the 02 barcelona one, it has the same people playing in it. theres some good music from these guys
Interesting how Springsteen gave up the role of lead guitarist... he was good, but I think he realized his strength lay in writing and singing, and later left the guitar solos to others....
im 30 years old and i remember my father having a bunch of bruce's records on vinyl and he would always be jammin springsteen and i dug it but i was a kid so i never truly understood the music..now that im grown i get overwhelmed with joy when i hear bruce..watching this footage makes me wish i was there for this performance,i wanna thank bruce for providing a soundtrack to my life..
I dont think its fair to compare this with other performers. Led Zeppelin was a great band. Rolling Stones were a great band. But this is in a whole other league of greatness. You might only get to see one performance of this calibre in a lifetime, if you're lucky.
Bruce Springsteen is more that just an artist...he is a musical institution that has produced some of the best music and live performances of our generation. And of all his performances I personally absolutely love this rendition of Prove it All Night....Big Man, Danny, The Band, The Boss...everyone was on top form to absolutely kill in front of Springsteen's home crowd. Keep it going Boss man!
The short version that is sometimes played on radio stations does not do justice to the song. It doesn't even come close to the energy or magnificence of the song live.
The GOAT IMHO until I die. Imagine Bieber even attempting to do something like this. He can only dream of ever being such a man while that bastard guitar sends shivers down his spine. Where have all the hungry musicians gone? The Boss didn't get to be the Boss without being hungrier than everyone else. Now he feeds us all

I was seventeen years old. Seen this show in Toronto. Concertbowl. Gardens. Changed me and the three guys I went with lives. No matter what happened afterwards. Whatvever music we heard/watched, This show was IT.
Bruce has many talents, not the least of which is his skills with a guitar. This type of playing, and really heavy stuff, was common in his early days - before his "folk" period, in bands like Earth, Child, and Steel Mill. He used to have this great Les Paul/Marshall stack sound that really cranked - the guitarists at the shore were in awe of this guy.
you see comments underneath a lotta bruces videos saying that whilst hes a great poet and lyricist hes not a great musician, what is this assumption based on i wonder? this video would suggest otherwise to me. maybe those people mean that in relation to his lyrical prowess but still to say hes a poor musician is erroneous to say the least. Perhaps we shall point them in the direction of this and other vids like it
@aurorairelandis I have heard this lame argument too, that Bruce is not a good musician. WTF?? I don't know what type of envy trip these folks are on who spew such nonsense. But here's my take-- Even though these people bother me if I allow them to rent space in my head, it's similar to arguing politics or religion with someone who has their mind closed to other views. Let's not waste our time and energy defending the greatness of one Bruce Springsteen. His work speaks for itself. Enjoy!!
Bruce&the E-street band paid their dues and made their bones in this period , I absolutely hated them at the time...with age I have come to respect and love the music as it did reflect My time and place
The bootleg from this show (Capitol Theater 9/19/78) is called "Piece de Resistance" and was available for some time (where bootlegs could be found). I picked up a copy of "Piece de Resistance" in Merrillville, IN in September 1984 and listened to it in awe. I have seen Springsteen 4 times starting from Born in the USA tour. The Capitol Theater show is my favorite show of all. I have between 100 and 150 shows from several tours on tape and the shows from the Darkness tour remain my favorite.
I was 17 when this came out. This tour in 78 was just downright kick ass. He just bleeds through those strings. Pure power!. AMAZING PERFORMANCE! Top 10 all time, Has to be. In my top five maybe higher.
Jesus! This is .... words can't describe this version! The first 4 minutes just ... I've been a fan since The River when I was 12 years old but I think I am a new fan because of this version of "Prove It All Night" and "Because The Night" from the same concert. Thank you for the post!!!!!!!!!!
I was at one of the Capitol shows - definitely Sept. '78, a couple of years before Born in the U.S.A. was released. THE most intense show of the most intense period of his career.
The DEFINITIVE rock star. Of all the segments that make up the pie chart of the arts, this man in my humble opinion is the greatest entertainer of them all. Of all the movies, sports events, concerts etc i have seen the past 30 years, a spingsteen show comes 1st, then comes a yawning casm, then the rest. Thanx Bruce.
that is because these are the 19 miserable losers who were in their rooms after dinner, lost on the fact that something like this even existed, I included the moron Glenn Beck as person number 19, because we all known he has Never experienced something like this. Just to bed now son big day tomorrow.
it only proves there are 19 idiots in the world including Glenn the Moron Beck, because he was at home the night this concert came to town. Probably in his room after supper.
This is ground shaking stuff. I thought Hammersmith was amazing and then this arrived. Thank you so much for posting. The 9/19 show is way better than 9/20 in my opinion.

Things just took very epic proportions.
No single artist today can resemble Bruce.
What are Lady Gaga, Bieber or whatever pop idol from these times compared to the true legends of those times? Next to nothing.
I'm 22 years old and I've seen Bruce in concert for 5 times already, starting when I was 8.

Thanx Bruce.

it only proves there are 19 idiots in the world including Glenn the Moron Beck, because he was at home the night this concert came to town. Probably in his room after supper.
