According to an urban legend, "Fire and Rain" deals with a girlfriend of Taylor's who died in a plane crash. In actuality, the "Suzanne" of the song was actually an acquaintance of Taylor's who committed suicide. The rest of "Fire and Rain" focuses on Taylor's efforts to kick his heroin addiction. "Won't you look down upon me, Jesus/You've got to help me make a stand/You've just got to see me through another day/My body's aching and my time is at hand/And I won't make it any other way . . ."
This song was in Remember the Titans. It was in a pivotal moment in the movie where the football team had just won their big playoff game and then there was a sequence of events showing what the main characters were going thru, some bittersweet moments some of celebration.....then the team captain, was involved in a car crash that paralyzed him. if you've seen this movie you know exactly what i am referring to. also, at the time i was sick with cancer and this song just brings back memories
I love this song and all classic rock and I am 16. Eagles, america, boston, the lot. Dont understand the rest of my generation. I want a classic camaro and I want to go on a road trip to california. My one wish is to be born in the 60s. I really hate the 2000s...
I first heared this song in the car with my father. And the 1st line made me think of my mother, i'm pretty sure it makes my dad think of my mom too. 9 years ago on April 28th, 2002 she passed away. Each time I listen to this song it makes me think about her.
I may not remember you mom, but I know your watching over us.
@poyp777 justin bieber is marketed towards adolescent kids you retard. do you bitch about britney spears and raffi for their lack of musical depth too? no. just ignore him instead of latching onto a gay dead annoying internet meme
For crying out loud, if one more person refers to the "B" word when commenting on CLASSIC music like this I think I might have to do great bodily harm to them!!! STOP saying his freaking name & maybe he will go away with his $1,000,000.00's!!!

I'm so glad I got my son into my type of music. He loves James Taylor and alot of my 80'S ROCK. I listen to all kinds and he loves them all. He wishes he went to high school in the 80'S This song is GREAT keep it up James Taylor.

ok i dont mean to be rude but can you stop talking about losing your parents like i havnt lost mine yet but i know they will be gone just like that so stop it makes me sad
This is one of my favorite songs. It took me many times of watching one of my favorite movies, Remember the Titans, before I realized this song was in it.
I was born In 1967. This song means something to me. I felt like giving up many times. Yet I am 44 year sold and still around. People thought that I would have been dead a 30.Lol! I fooled them.
I've always thought it's so amazing how someone's able to take their suffering and sadness and turn it into something beautiful like this. Most people just wallow in their misery but some are able to transform into something absolutely amazing.
You should drink bleach and so should anyone that gave you a thumbs up. I'm sick of that faggot's name being in the top comments to every damn youtube video out there.
@WOAH00000 well done, you hate bieber, aren't you clever? Why would you even bring him up here? Did you want to earn cool points? Well you didn't and neither did any of the ten incorrigible douchebags who liked your stupid asinine comment.
@lladsbid just so you know she was making a point, most people her age are in love with pop and nothing lyrics, but she knows what good music is. So thank you for looking like an ass, you just made my fricken day.
@SassySuperGirl thankyou for cutting me down to size with your brilliant analysis and razor sharp wit, but I fail to see why every teenager with decent taste feels the need to prove their credentials as someone with good taste by saying they hate Justin bieber. You know what, everyone hates Justin Bieber! Hating justin bieber isn't cool or hip, its just what people with good taste do so don't fucking bring him up at every turn and don't clap with approval whenever people do.
@WOAH00000 Oh, and well done on liking James Taylor at such a young age. seriously, keep it up, just don't use Justin Bieber to prove how cool you are, its unnecessary. Sorry if my earlier comment was a little harsh, I'd just come off of about four other videos where he was brought up for no good reason and the irritation overcame me.
Song makes me a little teary. I reminds me of my dog. When I left for camp at the beginning of the summer, I thought I would see him again, then he died, Suxx
If you ever talk to someone and made plans with them, and all of a sudden they just pass away, this song will bring you down to your knees. I loved this song way before 'remember the Titans'.
im 18 and have listened to james taylor for as long as i can remember. im glad my parents enstilled in me a good taste in music like this from a young age, not many people appreciate real music anymore
"I've seen fire and I've seen rain. I've seen sunny days that I'd thought would never end. I've seen lonely times where I could not find a friend. But I always thought I would see you again." Curtis... I will miss you truly. You gave up too early. But you will always be near me.

I can to know and love JT. The past couple years have been difficult for my family and we haven't had those summer night parties for a long time. For Christmas this past year, we gave my dad and mom tickets to one of the concerts. They literally had tears in their eyes. Thank you James.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this song! played it everyday..ever since i lost my lab.. at 10 years..that dog helped me through highschool and its up's and down's...girlfriends..school work..asshole friends...i miss her and think of her everyday...i love you cocoa!!!! <3 my girl!
last night i got rid of the razor i would cut myself with. Just chucked them as far as i could. Also found my suicide note from my suicide attempt n just ripped it to shreds and put it into a river. Thanks James, this song gave me so much hope
1969-recorded, 1970-released...it's a shame that this is the only James Taylor song still playing on the radio often today, when it launched a great career for him.
i seen the lyrics to this song on a gravestone in a cemetery in dublin ireland. the girl buried there was a girl called suzanne and she died age 27 back in 1987 i never knew her but that has stayed with me since seeing that on her headstone it was probarbly put there by her mother and father.

The 10th anniversary of 9-11 makes this all the more poignant. Thanks for all the years of music, James.

Such a beautiful song. I first heard it on Remember the Titans. Rest in peace to all who were lost 10 years ago today.

This is one of those songs that can take you from tears about 30 seconds in, to having a huge smile on your face by the end of the song.
