@matthewmarrett A lot of music derives from southern blues (or as you say "old slave music"). "House of the Rising Sun" is a perfect example. We wouldn't have many musicians today without these roots. Amy Winehouse, Tom Waits, Eric Clapton, etc.

Clearly the original sample from the song is being used mixed in with Moby and the back up singer. Today's live performances are so driven by click tracks and sequenced audio, to go out dry and hear a real 4 or 5 piece band play would sound horrible to our spoiled ears.
