Syd barrett still lives inside the body of dave gilmore/This is a true gentleman not forgetting his roots. He was upset when he lost his best friend 'rick wright' also! Either dave or jeff beck is the best guitarist ever. In fact dave just wins it!!!!!
@Adominae I was just thinking the same thing. Gilmour once said he was a much better guitarist than Barrett as Syd was "choppy". Gilmour (and I love David) *almost* channels Syd's ferocious brilliance when he plays this song. Almost.
@welcome2myhell Actually, he said that he was a bit further along back in the days when they were teaching one another. He also said that Syd was "one of the three or four greats, along with the Beatles and Bob Dylan". :)
@Mrgdh42 Steve DiStanislao is an excellent drummer in his own right. Gilmour wanted Mason along for this one but he was busy racing. DiStanislao did impeccably superb here: thunderous, succinct. clear. Mason would've been flattered by this performance.
@SenorSpode i understand where ur coming from, and i agree with u - to a point. it just seems to me that there is a lack of the eccentric and frantic motion that makes this song memorable to me. maybe im just used to the pulse version w/ gary wallis banging away in the perc cage.
The Gdansk CD/DVD recording was nothing short of miraculous. All performances were immaculate, dynamic, fluid, everything was in perfect sync. As good as Royal Albert Hall was, the Gdansk performance is the hallmark of live perfection. With Rick gone, nothing will exceed this.

The grandfather of the pink Floyd song catalogue. Gilmour seems to channel Syd Barrett in everyone of these Live performances of the classic.

only complaint: get someone who drums more like Nick Mason.
