Another OUTSTANDING excerpt from this very, very good (but sorely underrated) recording of LA TRAVIATA (perhaps because 5 years later Decca/London released a note-complete recording of this opera with Sutherland, Bergonzi, and Merrill (for the THIRD time on LP), with Pritchard conducting). Anyway, thank you VERY much for sharing this with us!!!
by this time Tucker had enormous power on the top of his voice as you hear on that last note, this was 1960, prime for both of them and a wonderful recording with Merrill to sing the father and beautifully, Moffo was never better.
Wonderful and her best recording ever! She did it in studio video later with Franco B. but this is her best one, now on CD and available, olso with Merrill who was in prime voice and as for Tucker listen to the last note of the duet for power, he did it at the met early and again in 1967 with Caballe. He was 46 years old here and still lyric and strong when called for, also at a gala he sang act one in 1970 with Sutherland just as well.
A memorable Violetta in every way and Richard Tucker singing Alfredo so sensitively to compliment her voice, not easy for such a powerhouse tenor. Thanks for this posting.
Love it. Great performance.

This is really wonderful, especially after enduring an operatic trauma by listening to Kermit (aka Villazon) and Centerfold Netrebko.
