  • @georgefras i prefer my DMB live... yes, the old stuff, with Butch killing it on the keys, and not Tim having a seizure on an electric guitar. as a touring member, for the the last few years, TIm has fucking blown. that is fact. his style of play just doesn't mesh with the rest of the band... you can tell. Carter never kills it with Tim like he does with Boyd or Jeff. it just doesn't work. name one song where Tim out performs another member? maaaaaaaybe AATW, w/ the Stairway interpolation....

  • @cmsule understand your points. think just a difference of opinion. i like the layer he adds to most songs. i agree that he never kills it like the others but i don't think he is often given too many solos, mostly little riffs here and there. i recently was listening to 11.20.10 concert and the one song i def did not like tim on was digging a ditch. and i would lose the second guitar if anyone.but on the whole i like him and for whatever reason dmb must feel the same for keeping him on the road

  • @georgefras but that's it. almost every other time he plays, his stupid solos take away something from the original song. they just don't feel right.

listen to any 41 with Tim, then go listen to 41 with John Mayer. that's how a good guitarist sounds with DMB. shit, go listen to DMB with Trey (i'm sure you have)... if you think the band is benefiting from having Tim on stage every night, i think you're fucking crazy.

  • On a 12 string!!!

    I dig that sound!

  • This is nuts! Blows me away!

  • 1:39, he is wearing a "backstage ass"

  • hes playing this on a twelve string. makes it that much more impressive.

  • This dude is sick man, saw him live in '05, had no idea!

  • @Acoustikmuzik420 saw him in o7 with Dave...had no idea.......not the case now awesome..want to see TR3 but guess they dont do the north west of england much, and to be fair who would! keep on rockin Tim man.

  • Backstage ass . . . you've got to love Tim and Fluffy.

  • My fingers got sore watching this video, and I'm pretty sure Tim's didn't. Without a doubt, one of the more talented guitarists of our time.

  • the crowds at these shows are such a-holes. shut up and listen to the show. bunch of drunken idiot college kids.

  • @MrTobbytwirl

I disagree, the ability to play "at a breakneck speed" is in many different forms of music. Have you seen a violin player increase the speed in which it take's more skill and practice to play? How about the piano? Do you think the piano doesn't sound beautiful played fast? Just because it's a guitar, doesn't make it less of a instrument! As all music is an art explain to us the proper tempo you "you think music should be played"?

  • people have no respect. shut up and listen

  • love it

  • wow...just wow

  • If anyone one else in the entire world tried to do this there hand would turn to ash

  • Tim is so so amazing

  • Oh yeah... this guy is ... umm.. ok too

  • the best guitarist of all time unreal

  • you can hear the auidence's faces being melted

  • great artist and very gifted

  • 'Oh my God!'

  • "He's playing Kashmir and the Stream right now"

    "I know"

    *Translation*

"STFU. I'm busy enjoying the Tim Reynold's goodness"

  • @cmsule Nobody likes hate comments. You dont hate Tim Reynalds, just how he coresponds to the rest of DMB. Regardless of what he does there, thats not what was in the video. Your comment had nothing to do with it. Tim Reynalds has talent you wish ypu had, so stop critisizing.

  • holy crap

  • I cant believe he is this fluid even on a 12 string.

  • @cmsule I disagree

  • I am just saying that I think some of his solos (in particular when it is just him and dave; the concerts that those two put on alone are better than the ones with the full band, i think) are pretty amazing. just my opinion though

  • @EricMitchellMusic I somewhat agree with you; however, we're talking about two very talented individuals (Dave and Tim) that could each go solo and sell out every show on there on. The deal is a "DMB" "show", together, is unmatched in almost any venue, for example: Listener Supported, which was recorded live at Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, New Jersey on September 11, 1999. This concert is arguably one of the best live performances of it's time. But! A great soloist tho... wow

  • Comment removed

  • @cmsule your head must be permanately logged in you rectum, you have zero culture, zero knowledge of musical talent, dont hate Tim because you turned out to be such a loser.

  • @Acoustikmuzik420 i was about to respond, but you have by far the douche-iest youtube user name i've ever seen, so... yea. go fuck yourself.

  • Apart from Zeppelin the rest's just fuckin indecipherable noise

  • hahahahha so sick

  • this is so definitely in fast forward

  • listen to his other songs....you will be amazed on how fast he cant play...

  • meant can*

  • @damninspiration22 , sorry bud, your wrong!!

  • fastest 12string player ever, amazing!

  • neal schon and tim reynolds are the most underrated guitarists

  • What the fuck is that? Looks like that shit is in fast forward. Crazy.

  • gives me chills

  • Pace himself? It was what the song was supposed to be like. A stream of constant music, Everything about his performance was AMAZING. Doesnt matter what tempo he is playing at, it will b golden.

  • Tim is the world's most underrated guitarist.

  • @zombieshuffle666

I don't know if you can say he's that underrated.. The man tours with Dave Matthews.

    He's pretty known..

Definitely one of my favorites of all time.

  • He played Kasmir in Vegas on 12/12/09....so bad ass

  • i love the kid having an orgasm in the last minute.."oh my god!"...Tim= god

  • me toooooooooo, this is as good as an orgasm, love this fella, he's amazing, oh shit just shot my load twice in a row!

  • i didn't know human fingers could move that fast. Tim Reynolds is freakishly good at playing the guitar. I'm jealous.

  • this song reminds me of jeff beck

  • excellent performance, i watch this so much!

  • yeah it is. hes playing a 12 string and the notes tend to sound that way when they ring out.

  • loop pedal he makes shit blow your mind

  • Why do people in the audience think they are more important that Tim playing? What a bunch of d-bags. The Mother Teresea says STFU while Tim plays, enough with these "Oh My God..." utterings while the master is working.

  • would love to watch tim jam with john butler

  • th!s guy !s totally underrated!

  • whaaat!

  • i can play this, only 100 times slower

    (i rule, amirite?)

  • oh my shitting fuck

  • I wish those shitholes in the audience would shut the fuck up.

  • Comment removed

  • awe inspiring...i think there is an interview of him with dave and dave said it best, "i couldn't believe someone could play the guitar that beautifully" (not word for word)

  • i like it when he plays it slower.. its a bit better

  • @Devildog9316

Yes, I can't quite understand why so many people want to try to make guitar playing a race. Being able to play fast is a skill of sorts, but incessant playing at breakneck speed is pretty unmusical. Music is art, not an athletic feat.

  • holy shite, slow down before you set fire to that guitar! My goodness.

  • this is as smooth as a gravy sandwich

  • OUCH! MY BRAIN! How'd he do dat?!

  • i wouldnt want that guy fingering my girl

  • I would. Hell he could finger me even.

  • too bad shes there right now

  • LOL

  • *LMAO*

  • lmfao

  • "he's putting kashmir into stream right now!"

    "I KNOW!!"

  • why does everyone use the word, "sick!" all the effing time?? geezus kids....find something else

  • sick comment dude

  • why does everyone use the word, effing?

  • dude.... that was absolutely SICK!

  • must have learned from Estaban lmao

  • estaban learned from him.

  • oh my damn

  • To compare Dave to Tim or visa versa is just ludicrous. I don't even consider Timmy a guitarist; more a wizard from another planet that happens to play guitar and also found the spring of music out there in the universe. The spring that other musicians are lucky enough to be splashed by a drop of, this guy gulps from, bottles, bathes in.

He lives in that fret board. He's friggin sick sick sick.

  • One man, one pick, 12 strings, some wood and a whole lot of SICK!

  • FUCK!!

  • I think if music comes from a person out of enjoyment of it, screw it if he rushes....holy crap, just enjoy this.

  • He's an amazing player but jumps around too quickly and chaotically. It's hard to follow. I'm sure that's his intention but it's just TOO dizzying. If he didn't rush so much it would sound cleaner.

  • Are you serious? he is too chaotic? thst is all planned man!! It cant sound much cleaner, and i would like to see you try it. Honestly. Play a 12 string like that for me then i will shut up

  • he was talking about how the songs are writtrn

  • It's not really about how the song sounds, it's really meant to be a display of his guitar prowess...and it succeeds.

  • Tim is just as amazing as Dave but in his own special way. I've seen him perform with Dave several times and I've loved each and every show so much! It's mind blowing at how talented these guys are. I love them and their music.

  • dave is good but tim owns him at guitar. no question

  • Ya but Dave is just a rhythm player, Tim is much more versatile. But Dave has a lot more then guitar going for him.

  • Unbelievable! I've always loved Tim Reynolds from listening to Dave Matthews at Luther College, but I've never actually seen him perform. Man, this guys crazy! His fingers are like magic!

  • No connecting melody??? You should read my "Sounds of musico" blog on myspace!

  • 2 of my friends think john mayer is the best modern guitar player, i told them check out reynolds and come back and tell me who is king now boys.

  • effing drunks ruined his piece.waaaaahhhhhh classless crowd !!!!

  • yeah this guy's fast but it sounds the guitar is having a siezure until about midway through when an actuall song takes form. you can hit as many notes as you want as fast as you want but that gets old quick, most of this sounds like he's running through a bunch of random scales as fast as possible, i like his playing much better when he is jamming with dave matthews because there he uses both technical skill and creativity

  • let me guess. you dont play any instruments.

  • incorrect ive been playing guitar for 5 years now. and by that last comment i didnt mean to take away from the skill of tim reynolds, which he undoubtedly has. however i just wish he would put his skill to good use and actually play something that sounds better than a mess of ascending and descending scales. for instance when he starts playing kashmir in the middle of this video

  • He's an artist dude... he's doing what he feels like doing. That's his thing!

  • i respect that, i was just stating a preference. either way tim is an acoustic master

  • ummm..i see alot of technical skill and creativity here...thats not all scales...some of his fills are variations of scales, but its all original...thats plenty of creativity and skill

  • Saw him last night, amazing technical ability but in some ways it just seemed like a lot of riffs with no connecting melody.

  • God, this video truly almost brought me to tears. That was fucking amazing.

  • Dude rolling stones 100 greatest guitarist list dont matter, they are not a guitar magazine, they skipped alot of good guitarist, the only list that matters is your own, and okay Kurt Cobain wasnt a good guitar player, but shit one of the best song writers of his generation.

  • wanderingpeace~~excellent......footage...

so crisp and clear! Love it.....5*

God ....love Timmy! Cause I sure do! :)

  • nothing pisses me off like when a musician is playing and idiots in the crowd won't stop yelling, talking, or whistling. Have some respect for the musician.

You know why the beatles stopped touring? because of idiots like you!

  • tru dat

  • Reminds me of attending a George Winston concert and how hushed the crowd was while he was performing and would allow him to extend the notes without interruption with hoots and applause until he was finished. He thanked the audience for doing so.

  • shut the fuck up. you have no fucking kind of clue why the beatles broke up. You ignorant fuckin kid

  • He didn't say that's why they broke up. Learn to read. He said that's why they stopped touring. And that's true. So I think you're the ignorant fucking kid.

  • You all know that stupid Rolling Stone 100 greatest guitarists of all time List? I wonder how Kurt Cobain grabbed a fairly high ranking spot (or any at all for that matter) and they MISSED Tim Reynolds utterly.

    I mean, really!

  • 4rainbowed i couldn't agree with you more. This guy is like Hendrix on accustic guitar. He should be in the top 5 of the Rolling Stone mag at least.

  • A kindred spirit!! You know, he has a taping policy, that if the venue doesn't have rules against it, anyone can tape or video him in concert because "no two performances of the same song are alike"! It's in either his, or the DMB Wikipedia page. KASHMIR! While Page made it look like he was performing a miracle on stage, Tim has it down plus more... just incredible.

Now if the audience wasn't drunk and loud...!!

  • oops i pressed the wrong thumb...thumbs

UP, I agree, TR is an awesome guitarist.

he doesn't sign to a major label as he

wants to be able to DO HIS OWN THING.

just wanted to let you know i wasn't dissin'

    u

    PEACE

I get to SEE him Sat., in Ft. Wayne, Indiana

  • Look, there are thousands of great guitarists that are better than Cobain. But he is a Martyr, a saint of the modern genereation, and much more influential thatn Tim Reynolds.

  • good point Kurt cobain is only on there cuz hes dead. not talented for shit. you oculdn t understand one word he mumbled. horrible in my opinion tim should replace his spot.

  • Yep. You can sound like a banshee, but as long as you act like you know what youre doing.

  • Does anyone know who shot this? Wish the crowd was quieter. Is there a video of the the whole show? Tim's fingers are magic to watch THANKS for posting it

  • tim is ridiculous. this is badass

  • Indeed. But Tim HATES loud, drunk, obnoxious crowds. He prefers quiet, respectful, INTIMATE crowds. Of course he likes cheering between songs, but while playing he likes quiet crowds.

  • this is my friends friends dad! his daughter is eura!

  • Audience sounds intoxicated. Alcohol is a curse upon mankind. I like beer, but it seems to go completely misused too often.

  • the curse lies within the spectrum of flaws in the human race!

  • whoever tabs this will be a god

  • the tab and chord can be found on the live at luther how to play book from the DMB website... it looks like a drunken chicken got it;s head chopped off and ran across it 100 times... how anyone can play this with out their fingers bursting onto flames is beyond me!

  • tim is amzing!

  • 3:20 Dude hes playing kashmir into stream right now. I know. Thanks for the heads up. Jerkoffs I hate fucking assholes

  • it sounds like a whole orchestra is playing and hes doing it from one guitar

and playing that on a twelve string? i can hardly do it on my six string. wow. thats all that can be said

  • with a pick and at that speed. wow

  • im not a hater but why do americans always scream through out a performance??

    YEAH! YEAH! WHOOOHOO!! YEAH!!

shut the fuck up and listen!!

sorry,i had a bad day.respect to Tim BTW.

  • showing their respects..

  • well personally when I'm on stage (being an amateur musician) i love it when the audience does things like that, it shows the artist that the audience likes the music and thinks the artist is playing well.

    plus they're probably wasted :P

  • his eyes are closed for most of this.

    its crazy

  • I love that every time I see Tim play this song, he's playing it faster.

  • i just like that when it zooms in you can see someone has shapie'd tims backstage pass so it reads "backstage ass"

  • I wish the crowd would shut up.

  • what a unique guitar player

  • grow up all of you just enjoy it from the heart and stop letting your egos get in the way. Just sit back and enjoy.

  • I personally have never seen Al, John or Paco flat pick a 12 string dreadnaugh. You are comparing apples to oranges. Picking or fingerstyle fast runs on a classical/nylon or very low action Ovation is so so so so much easier than flatpicking a 12 string. This was good.

  • What the hell, I'll throw my two cents in. Tim is a very good, hell, excellent guitarist. Far from the best, as others have said. I agree that Di Meola, McLaughlin and de Lucia are much smoother and more fluid. I hate getting into debates about who is better, but I surely would never throw Tim above those cats, nor would I about Don Ross or Andy McKee who I've both seen in person.

  • I wholeheartedly agree that Tim is a great guitarist. He is not, however, the best guitar player ever. Do yourself a favor and check out Al Di Meola, John McLaughlin, or Paco de Lucia. Better yet, all three at once. Not only do they play fast but they are not nearly as sloppy as Tim.

  • Sloppy? The man has serious skill! And have heard the effects and techniques he has mastered? Check out Kundalini Bonfire and Weightless Micro Nothings.

  • can't disagree with that statement, and I'm a fan.

  • then who the hell are you?

    steve howe? jimi? paige?

  • I mean its a 12 string dude, the very fact that he is playing it in this manner fascinates me

  • I am not even a big fan of him, but you are a fucking moron!

  • i agree plenty...tim's stuff is not only played with speed but he also plays really tasty stuff...the same cannot be said for al di meola and the like

  • Tim is not sloppy. Tim is a god

  • no your completely right but paco is a bass player not a guitarist

  • ur an idiot

ithink u just confused jaco pastorius and paco de lucia

    well done dickhead

  • Epik Phailyur.

  • it would be awesome to see this guy alone not that i dont like dave matthews cuz i love him its just that id rather him play like crzy stuff like this

  • Don't take my comment too seriously people but, I prefer to listen Andy Mckee, Don Ross or Trace Bundy playing on their guitar...

This guy play fast, it's a fact, but it's far to be smooth, far to be melodious...

Sorry if everybody will not agree with me, but I had to told you that, and before saying that I know nothing about music, just look at my favorite videos of my favorite guitarist, and after you can answer me...

    God bless !

  • Agreed but I really don't like Andy Mckee too much. He's great but Trace Bundy is easier on the ears.

  • wow

  • its like its not even real...i cant describe

  • 2 Words...Holy S#*t! This is unreal!!!! I am sorry if I am repeating anyone on the comment post...but I just can't stop listening to this....you can't fake it on an acoustic like this...pardon my French...this is FUCKING INSANE!!!!! Joanna, my wife, please watch this....it is because of guys like this is why I picked up the guitar.

  • This is UNREAL. Tim Reynolds is possibly the most talented guitarist on earth. Look how fast his fingers move. And his right arm is like crazy. That is awesome. Bravo, TR.
