@jackneefus, you had the wrong information. Harbin was never a part of Russia, but one of the closest Chinese city to Russia. there was truly alot of poor foreign people fled to Harbin to find a shelter during the war in the last century, a lot of Russian businessman as well.Therefore a period of time Harbin contained quite much of the Russian culture that still effects the city today, including buildings,language,civilization and the residents way of living.
