  • Glad for the upload but can you put them in order for continuous play to work? Right now they are in order BACKWARDS!!!

  • I have to say that Hepburn really approaches Hecuba as if she was on the stage, there is no subtlety to the ancient dramatics that she brings to her character.

  • @outinsider what do you mean?

  • @smellyfish555

Film acting is supposed to be very subtle, but Hepburn gets away with bring the ancient theatrics of acting styles to this role. Her feet are planted and move in a way where she is beating the ground with them, as if to call on ancestors and the gods, which is what the ancient Greeks did in their theatre. Their voices were also raised to call to the gods, as theatre was a religious ritual.

  • @outinsider Ohh I see. Yeah it does seem that way. I'm playing the role of Helen in an upcoming production of The Trojan Women :)

  • @smellyfish555

Irene Papas plays her in the movie. I take it you are seeing this to study the role? Helen does have a great scene.

  • @outinsider Yes and yes :) Irene Papas does perform amazingly as Helen.

  • Who knows the movie The Lion in the Winter might recognize that Katharine Hepburn resemble as Queen Hecuba very much her role as Eleanor of Aquitaine, while the Greek messenger Talthybius played by Brian Blessed (who would win any having the appearance of a king contest easily) does almost look like Peter O'Toole as Henry II in The Lion in the Winter; a strange but entertaining analogy! But the other roles are well chosen: Cassandra, Helen and Andromache are all played by gifted actresses!
