Its all about playing to the primary fanbase demographic. Video games, comic books, and action movies all do this because they know who's buying their products and what they want to see.
Ok, what about kat from halo reach, bayonetta(who uses that fact that shes a woman to her advantage a real femme fatale), jade from beyond good and evil, madison paige from heavy rain, the big sisters from bioshock 2, alma from the fear series, ashley, liara, tali, jack, samara, kasumi, kelly, and miranda from the mass effect games, or lightning from FF13? You fail sir/miss do more research.

What about Chun-Li? She doesn't have a skimpy outfit and is a fighting female. A number of other posters have put up various other female characters from video games that aren't degrading. There's also Jill Valentine from the Resident Evil series, who as far as I know almost always just shows up in a cop uniform.
And somebody also mentioned Mirror's Edge, too. If you're going to make a video like this, at least do your research so you don't seem one sided.

Female leads are never ambigious in the lead. Enforceing that its fine for girls to play as male characters, but guys only as guys.
This does have a point about games with only one player character though.

I hate to say this, but the stereotype in video games of helpless females is neither new, nor exclusive to video games. Stories of knights rescuing fair maidens and the like have been around since ever. In the movies, ever since the very beginning, have been showing helpless females falling victim to male villains... only to be rescued by the daring and handsome hero.
It's also worth mentioning the fact that most game programmers are male. That's not to say that girls DON'T LIKE/PLAY other games (like the games mentioned in the vid) or such, just that it's always been a male dominated world. In fact, I know some HARDCORE female gamers that HATE the all that kiddy crap -- but they're only a few out of said 30%. And there ARE female heroines that AREN'T scantily dressed and the like too, but this vid DOESN'T show them which shows poor research done.

According to G4, their research showed that girls make up only 30% of the total gaming market, that and the vast majority of the games girls play are the games geared to little kids - the ones made by Disney and the like. If YOU were in charge of a multimillion dollar game company, what would YOU do? Make a bunch of games that are only geared towards only 30% of the market, or make games geared towards the other 70% of the market?

Oh, and Peach wasn't getting kidnapped in most games once the SNES had her as a playable character along-side Mario and company. Peach even had a game on the DS where SHE had to go rescue Mario and Luigi.
I do wonder if they put a fat woman, very skinny woman, or an unnattractive female in a video game would that affect the sales of a video game?

In Ocarina of Time Zelda was not needing to be saved. She was disguised as Sheik, helping Link the whole way through.
