Anyone with a sensitivy and a sense of beauty will always feel the grandeur of this immortal piece of Handel. By the way it is not necessary to belong to any religion not even to believe in God to be able to enjoy it to its fullest
I have said before: the best and greatest master pieces in arts (music, painting, literature and whatever you may think) have been dedicated to God and his creation. The Handel's Messiah is the most beautiful piece of music that has ever been written and performed in mankind history. It's thrilling specally when it's performed by a fantastic Choir such as King's College's. Beautiful!!!
"The kingdom of this world, is become our Lord and of His Christ, and He Shall Reign For Ever and EVER!!!!" Amazing song of adoration that evokes from the singer and listener the greatest sense of joy and adoration for the King of kings and Lord of lords! Let us praise Him!!
@KamiKazeDrMario For yoour info, there are no such things as an atheist. It is philosophically impossible to be an atheist since to be an atheist you have to have infinite knowledge inorder to know abosultely that there is no GOD. But to have infinite knowledge you have to be God your self and you can not be bothm at the same time.
@MrTdeJ well that is just philosophically, people do it just to say that they do not believe in God, but I agree on what you say there I am just saying that I was poking fun at the dislikes, which was intended as a joke, not a religious statement.
HERMOSO...que bello himno,,,,es la máxima expresión de lo que es el Redentor para cada criatura que adora a Dios......gracias por el creador de esta obra.....Betty Espinoza de Chile.
Praise Jesus Christ, The Messiah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! King of Kings, Forever and ever, Lord of Lords! Wonderful Counselor. The meaning is so clear in Isaiah and Handel put it to music.
@newtotay those trumpets don't have valves to let the water condensation (not spit) inside the instrument out. so they have to tilt it upwards so it looks like they are drinking it. basically all instruments get that condensation (like taking a cold water bottle and leaving it outside the fridge)
The HALLELUJAH CHORUS, from HANDEL's MESSIAH, is one of the most well-known musical pieces from the baroque period.
To this day it is performed regularly all around the world, is the subject of study in schools and universities, and features frequently in movies, television programs and commercials.
Una de las mas sublimes obras de todos los tiempos magnificamente ejecutada....cuando pienso que esto es la representacion imperfecta de lo que estaba en la mente de su autor no puedo sino maravillarme.... Thank you!
Beautiful--both the performance and the video recording. I wanted to see the chapel at King's College when I was in England but couldn't. The architecture there is fabulous. It was nice seeing a glimpse of it in the video.
GEORGE FREDERICK HANDEL (February 23 1685 , Halle - April 14 1759 , London ) German-born composer, achieved fame in England. In a period dominated by Italian musicians, Handel wrote popular operas in Italian, as well as instrumental works. Later, he composed oratorios in English, including his masterpiece The MESSIAH, which was given a commemorative performance in Westminster Abbey in 1784.
@Ying123Yang1 Tradition has it that the reason why people stand during this is because King George III could not sit for too long and decided that (at this point of Handel's Messiah) it was a good time to stand. Since then, it has been the custom that all in the audience stand.
A lot of you guys are saying there is no one standing but if you look close enough you'll see a lot of people standing. Especially towards the front of the audience.
@marcitamarcela It's tradition not to clap afterwards. As the story goes the King was so impressed that he stood, thus people are generally encouraged to stand when in a performance with this song. Also, clapping is somewhat regarded as taking away from the 'spirit' so to say, don't know if you're religious or not, but it's regarded as more reverent to not clap. At least that's what I've been taught for the past four years of singing it. Hope that helps. :)
Dec 24 2011, 22h00, Part of The Messiah & Hallelujiah at the Cathedral of Lausanne by ORL Orchestra with the Choir of the Lausanne Cathedral directed by J-L.Dos Ghali
The tenors stand out too much, and the diction is often unclear. This is an excellent choir, but not my favorite performance. I prefer their recording of Messiah with the Brandenburg Consort.
@TheArtooDeetoo This, along with Mozart and Verdi's Requiems, the Ninth Symphony, embody the essence of humanity, to reach our hand to the infinite, it does not mean God or anything, but rather we always want to reach beyond what we know. And I am also an atheist
Why should atheism, a lack of belief in God, affect one's musical tastes? This is among the best pieces I have ever performed, in my opinion, and I can't listen to it enough - and yet I don't believe in God.
I'm beginning to think all the talk about intolerance of atheism has something in it - can you imagine the reaction if you had made a similar comment about gays, or Muslims, or some other minority like that?
