I'm so so sorry, I missed the like button while leaning for the jar of monomates (to cure my wounded heart), so I thumbed your comment down. But I really liked what you said. This piece of music is 16-bit heaven.
I'm not a huge fan of Phantasy Star III, but I must say that the main theme of this game is pretty good. In fact, I actually want to play this game right now.
For the unaware, Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst has a pretty awesome remix of this theme featured in one of its tracks. It's called "Nostalgia in Solitude PART1". I suggest listening to it.
Hey, It's interesting to hear that people actually love this game, I've got the Genesis collection for PS3 and I'm playing through all the Phantasy Star games. I'm on 3 now and well into the 3rd generation. It's not a bad game at all; yet almost everyone who talks about it says that it's horrible and that you should avoid it and just movie on to 4.
Because it isn't as good as Phantasy Star II or IV. The music was the best part of PSIII, but so much of this game could've, and really should've, been better. Here's a list of what makes PSIII the worst in the main PS series:
-Enemy encounter rate rivaled by Magic School Lunar
I guess that's what happens when you get a totally different team working it on it. I agree with all of those. Rivaled how? as in too many or to few. I found you encountered them too often. and yeah the healing spells not working is BS too.
I didn't clarify, I meant using healing spells in the party menu outside of battle (was running out of space). I've played the original Genesis and the GBA port and I've seen healing spells not work.
And Magic School Lunar's enemy encounter rate is brutally high. It's import-only, though.
Yeah, I've seen the healing spells not work too. At times I had to cast the same spell three times or more before it would work. That's BS in my opinion. Not to mention if you loose someone in battle the resurrection spells can fail. Another thing that annoyed me was the fact that if you were poisoned nothing could heal you other then antidotes or this lady in towns. not even inns can cure it. In that state healing spells and items are useless too.
But it's not like poison does anything to you like in other RPG's. In PSIII it's just there, and as far as I know there are no other status ailments in the game.
I think this game is underrated, I've played all Phantasy Stars and I think this one had one of the best story-lines. The politics, fantasy, and imagination of the creators still amazes me.
I liked the story too, the only thing I didn't get was how it ties into the rest. I know it stems from the destruction of Palma but that's it, Is there true ending too it since there are 4 of them. and marrying your 3rd cousin that was a little creepy,
You're not the only one who didn't get the story of PSIII. There are differences between the Japanese and American versions of the game, both of which tie into Phantasy Star IV. Like I said before, PSIII is a continuity-wrecker for the series.
Do you know what the differences are? I'm curious now. The only tie to the game I've seen in IV is the wreckage which turns out to be one of the ships that didn't make.
It disappoints me that they never even mentioned how the brawl at the end of II finished.
SPOILER WARNING! This is also on Wikipedia, but is un-sourced.
One thing is that the crashed ship on Motavia in IV is NOT the Alisa III. Apparently, the canon ending is the one where the Alisa III ends up close to Earth.
Also, the Japanese version of Phantasy Star III takes place 1000 years AFTER Phantasy Star IV, which means that Dark Force is still present, despite Chaz and company killing the Profound Darkness in PSIV.
Oh I know, it's not the Alisa III, the way they explained it in IV is that particular ship didn't get far enough away in time and ended up stuck in Motavia obit for a thousand years and then crashed. My take on the part about Dark Force not being dead is if it got onto one of the ships as it left and even if the profound darkness is destroyed it'd still be there but once its dead it's not coming back.
Or in our version if III finishes just before IV does then it's all over.
Nope, PS3 happens at the same time as PS2. Basically, PS3 follows the journey of people from Algo who fled the chaos in wake of PS1 in which Dark Force itself follows them in their generation ships to pursue the same goals of destroying them. When you considering it this way as the suggested canon seems to be, it makes sense. So, think of PS 1, 2, and 4 as the Algo system narrative. And PS3 as the standalone narrative.
The Japanese rpg game makers surely knows how to make out of this world music.

@SniperNightOwl I have to agree. The theme when Megido went off and the overworld once you have a full party was sweet, too.

-Barely any dialogue between party members
