  • I actually love her, but for a completely different reason than why I love Lea and Samantha. They are both so powerful and full of emotion, but Eponine is only supposed to be around 15 at the time so I like the almost tortured bit of innocence Nancy Sullivan has in her voice

  • Nancy is my favorite Eponine along with Samantha Barks and Frances Ruffelle, but I must say, this isn't her best preformance :/

  • I have to say I think she sings very well and it is overall a very good effort

  • Her voice sounds too innocent for the role and lacks the power of the other actors who've played Eponine. She's very likeable, but comparing her to THE Lea Salonga would be a futile attempt at making her look good.

  • i saw Nancy as Eponine two years ago she was brilliant and Tbh i'd have a difficult time if i was asked to choose the best out of her, Samantha barks and Lea Salonga all three of them are fantastic and all my favorite :)

  • In a way, she sounds more like a Cosette because her voice isn't as thick as that of most of the Eponines.

  • If you've seen Nancy Sullivan in the actual musical, and not a three minute BBC clip in the earlier months of her two year run, I think you'll agree that she's one of the best Eponine's ever. Much better than Samantha Barks, for one.

  • @rockercharmz888 I had the previlige of seeing her in the musical twice. She is my favourite Eponine.

  • she is good!!!:)

  • I saw her in a few years ago playing this role and she was INCREDIBLE. Seriously, the best Eponine I have ever seen. :) I love this!

  • Too sweet and sickly sounding. Eponine is a bit more brash and powerful than this.

  • Sorry, but I don't like the juvenile sounding voice. No knock on the singers ability. Like a talent show where a 12 year old phenom sings an old time country song about her man leaving her before she's had her first period. Or, with the hormone's in the water supply, maybe I should say nine year old.

  • @Aerohog1 That seriously made me laugh out loud. Thanks.

  • I saw her in concert at a matinee in London, loved it :)

  • AAH! It was so pretty until she tried to hit that high note... eek!

  • Off key on the high notes. Eeeek!

  • Not bad at all really, however she isnot a patch on Samantha Barks and Lea Salonga and Frances Ruffelle though.

  • I'm not saying she has a bad voice, but I don't really like it all that much.

  • It's really nice untill 2:11 then I can't stand it anymore.

  • @ILyPenelopie ABSOLUTELY. I just cannot believe that people use her as the "ultimate Éponine" Although she is an amazing actress, from what I understand. So very canon. Well, she has to be when she sings like that. :/

  • briliant

  • LOVE this!

  • nancy sullivan rocks, she is amazing!!!!!

as eponine and any other part she plays, particularly in the take that musical,

les mis is my favourite tho, amazing!!!!!

  • I'm a guy, and I cried to this. This is so beautiful.

  • It's a life long dream of mine to even sing as Eponine. I will be eternally gratful to anyone who ever offers me that oppertunity. She is such an inspiring character, and I think she is the most amazing soul who ever roamed the world of fiction. She is my favourite, if you haven't already noticed XD BTW I love Nancy, but I think Rosalind James has to be the best Eponine for me. Also, she made Eponine have blonde hair. It dosen't really look right...

  • She sounds a BIT pop-ish, but if she used taller vowels, maybe it would be wonderful! She has a GORGEOUS WONDERFUL voice though.

  • This recording doesn't do her justice. I saw her live last year in June, and she was AMAZING.

  • Everywhere I watch this, Eli one is always portrayed as a brunette. To see a blonde (like myself) makes me really happy. I was in this play and I wanted Eponine so badly but I got older Cosette.

  • I love Nancy, but her voice is almost too pretty for Eponine. She's still amazing though, can't believe I sang On My Own in front of her =/

  • Ooh, I like a blond Eponine! Especially since she was blond in the book.

  • @lisambofoh She was blonde in the book? I thought that was Azelma? In which chapter does it say that she's blonde? If she is, I think that's really coll because I've never pictured her looking like that.

  • @schoolplaystars1214 I can't remember the chapter, but it was when Marius sees her outside of his room.

  • she came to teach us about audition tech! sung infront of her !!

  • @MrPetejames2 What did she say about auditions?

  • @schoolplaystars1214 just be yourself, dont come across too strong or too nervous. walk in like you know what you're doing. hope thats okay, i cant honestly remember all she said

  • Les Miserables "On My Own" - Juliya Maschenko 12 years

she sings this song really good

  • You can't really say she isn't right for the part by listening to a recording lol! Had any of you negative people actually seen her perform as Eponine you would know that she was actually the best one on the stage! From the front rows you could see every expression on her face and feel every emotion the character was feeling - something you just won't get from this recording. Nancy is amazing.

  • ok i haven't heard many eponines (only four actually) but i think she's REALLY good!!however maybe a bit sweet but still amazing:)

  • Lea Salonga will probably always be my favourite Eponine, though this is a lovely version too :)

  • Definitely one of my top three Éponines, though admittedly not for her voice:/

  • She isn't... bad, so to speak. I wouldn't have cast her- something seems a bit off. I don't like her Eponine, but she has a good voice, and as far as I've heard, is a damn nice person.

  • I never realised she was Eponine. I've stood next to her for about 6 hours straight. Lolol, I was a bridesmaid with her in 2008.

  • she's a talented girl, but I'm not a fan of her as Eponine. Didn't like the sound of this one bit : /

  • This is the new orchestrations, right?

  • Polish version is better ; )

  • I really don't rate Nancy Sullivan. FAR too sweet for my opinion. no balls whatsoever.

  • @TheCherryBomber1 Hey, sweet people can have "balls"! Like me. I'm sweet and my singing voice is sweet but no one who has done something to annoy me can say I have "no balls whatsoever". Besides, she's made Eponine her own and made her diffrent to the others

  • @HorseyWitchOfTheEast doesn't mean I have to like her portrayal

  • Bravo Nancy, bravo :) Best rendition of 'On my own' in my opinion

  • She's fabulous. Lea is fabulous.

I can't compare them and I love them both!!!!

  • She's fabulous. Lea is fabulous.

I can't compare them and I love them both!!!!

  • YES! A blonde Eponine! Finally :) I like her, but it sounded like she was desperately trying to hit those notes and just couldn't. Also a bit too fast, but overall amazing :)

  • YES! A blonde Eponine! She's soooo good! OMG :)

  • this is mehhhhhh

  • my drama teacher!!!!!!!

  • @amanamoo MY jealousy!!! :p

  • @amanamoo I heard about that Drama School she does. I would be going too but it's too far away. I'm just outside Central London.

  • @Monkeyballmania She has stopped doing it now because she was too busy with rehearsals and stuff..

But I am still in touch with her :D

  • my drama teacher!!!

  • second row, not only is she hot and she made that seat better, but she was amazing.

  • i saw her October 2009! she blew me away! Love her so much!!

  • I saw her in november of last year. She was my favorite out of them all.

  • You know what's interesting about this song? Very different voices seem to suit it perfectly. Voices like this have a certain emotion about them that put you in her place. But voices like Lea Salonga's are just so powerful and you feel the lyrics in your soul. Music is universal. It's awesome.

  • no depth

  • i liked samantha better

  • @Eatsleeptwilight Are you cracked?

  • @Dance4aSmile actually no im not. samantha was amazing. i saw her with nick j this summer

  • @Eatsleeptwilight Samantha was mediocer! Same with Nick, Nick was a tad better, I also saw her with Nick and i've seen Nancy! Nancy pones Samantha's ass, Nancy should have been at the O2 not Samantha, Samantha was way out of her legue. I was there, I saw it! She was terrible live (Not Nancy, Samantha)

  • @Dance4aSmile whatever u say. i completly disagree but i dont want to fight. you wont change my mind and i wont change yours. we are all entitled to our own opinions.

  • That's really cool! That's around the time I saw her in Les Mis when I was in London. Wish I could go back and see it again.

  • she's no lea m.

    Not enough emotion

  • I saw her in June, I think it was cast change. She fits the character perfectly, i agree very much with @thalysss69 :)

  • Her voice is very superficial for Eponine. Lea Salonga is the best together with Frances Rufelle.

  • As good as Lea :) xx

  • I like the way she things this. I think there's a lot of feeling to it, and she's so adorable <3

  • her voice is not nearly powerful enough for the part of eponine..

  • She is not good. At all.

  • SHE IS REALLY BAD AT SINGING HOLY SHIT

    like

    REALLY BAD

is she a fantastic actor?? her belting is horrendous once she gets up high. ugh.

  • @TheBirdElephant Eponine is a teenager.

  • WOAHHH! shes so amazing! i saw it with samantha barks but shes well better!! go on nancy!! xx

  • I just love her "everyday I'M learning"!!! :D The "I'm" is simply gorgeous...

  • god i hate her accent. she can hit the notes and stuff but the accent just totally detracts from the song.

  • Very, very good. From seeing her in videos doing "A Little Fall Of Rain" she's an amazing actress. She still doesn't beat the orginal, Frances Ruffelle.

  • Nancy Sullivan will be perfoming an intimate performance of Cabaret songs for fans at the Stag theater in London on the 19th of July. To book tickets please visit the Stag website

  • kinda pitchy, lea michele is my favorite

  • I love her accent, seen her live as well and met her at the stage door afterwards, she was very nice and took the time to chat with us, not many people do that, she's got absolutely no attitude, makes me like this even more :)

(plus her performance made me cry like a baby)

  • I'm sure she made a great Eponine !!! I guess maybe I'm Buyist, because Lea played both Eponine and Fauntine. Iv'e seen her live and with every song she sang, she always put feeling and emotion . Their both on broadway and that says alot. .....We aren't. Lol. With my voice thankGod !!!!!!

  • I saw her last year in london, she is AMAZING!

  • She was amazing...but a little pitchy at times-still quite a powerful voice. Lea Salonga is still my favorite. I also don't think this recording does her justice, even if she wasn't my favorite.

  • She was amazing...but a little pitchy at times-still quite a powerful voice. Lea Salonga is still my favorite.

  • I saw Nancy as Eponine on 12th May and she was great! To me it sounded better live than in this recording!

  • @chakram9999

so did I! she was so pretty she made marius look stupid for choosing cosette over her

  • She's beautiful, a fantastic actress, but I find her voice a little weak and immature, especially in the beginning. All in all, I'm not impressed with her vocally.

  • So sweet....I'm REALLY loving this new orchestration with the bells and strings!!

  • wow! I am speechless. You have so much emotion in your voice. You use you dynamics really well in this song. You did a really good.

  • she was much better live

  • I saw her last week =D She was sssoooo amazing! I was expecting Fantine to be the highlight of the show for me, but Nancy was fantastic! And I thought she really did have the balls that Eponine needs! :P

  • I saw here a month ago and she stunned me! I loved the whole cast and especially our own Hans-Peter Janssens (Javert). The only one disappointing to me was Marius, who did make it up a bit in Empty chairs

  • Her voice is`nt that great, just to jung for such a big, leading role.

She really looks like a Eponine.

  • I saw her on monday. She was AMAZING!!!

  • She's amazing, I saw her last week and I just loved the whole musical, she was my favourite character :D.

  • I saw her on the 24th anniversary of Les Mis! I have never cried so much in my enitre life, and I litterally had to go back and see it once more. I was lucky though, the people who follow LM said the cast I saw was the best there has been in many years.

  • i love nancy!! she's really good on stage and always makes me cry :'( but its not fair that she dies and marius ends up with cosette - its not her fault shes poor!

  • You should probably read the book if you think that the only reason Marius wasn't with her was because "she was poor."

  • she's good, but I can't help thinking she just hasn't got the balls that Eponine has. Celia Keenan-Bolger and Cassandra Compton were far punchier.

  • I went to London to see Les Mis in 2008, I think this is the Eponine I saw (: fave will always be Lea Salonga, however Nancy was superb, was so impressed when I saw her.

  • I'm seeing her in a couple of weeks :)

  • LUCKY! I'm seeing her in a couple of months =(

  • BEST EPONINE EVER!!!! :) well maybe just to me. :) i saw her in london a few weeks ago and cried my eyes out when she died. Her voice is amazing and she is such a great actress!

  • I've seen her alive a few weeks ago. She's so pretty ^^ Her voice is really sweet. Love Les Miserables, a pitty I'm not from England, for I would go see this musical alive everyday. :P

  • @benfarren2006 so jealous. i saw her a year ago. she was so amazing and acts with it so well. coudln't agree with you more!

  • Hey, saw her last night. Although I adored her voice and found it very unique, I couldn't help but find this song was a bit too big for her, it came across a bit shouty. Although maybe her voice was just tired -8 shows a week!! You're bound to have an off night!!

  • so ?

  • she is good, but lea salonga is still my favorite <3 peace

  • have they changed the words to this haha? i noticed the start was the other way round.. shes so amazing though! beautiful voice and so touching x

  • nancy sullivan is totally amazing, recordings dont do her justice! go see her if you get the chance!

  • she is my favourite...perfect!

  • saw her she was amazing :)

  • loved her two days ago at west end. brilliant!

  • no one can beat ashley spencer in the pittsburgh CLO production of les mis! (i mean in a production that isn't broadway or london, because i loved frances & lea).

  • I saw this yesterday, it was amazing! She's such a great singer. She's taken over from Lea Salonga in terms of awesomeness.

  • just saw i on thursdaexx she was amazingggggg

  • i saw les mis on thursday she was my faverite character she was amazing (:

  • Similarities to Salonga, who is brilliant.

A little shrill in parts, but I'm sure this isn't her best

  • i watched her last week :D

    she was amazing

  • she's much better live. does anyone know when she's finishing, i'd love to go see her again!

  • This recording doesn't do her any justice! She is so much better live!

  • I met her after a show of LesMis, she's so nice and friendly and absolutely down to earth =)

  • you guys should look up: 'Casi Riegle singing On My Own' its awesome!

  • I've seen her LIVE.. it was amazing. Lea Salonga's got a great voice (no doubt about that) but Nancy is more "moving", and suits the character...

  • @thalysss69 Ummm, I'd have to disagree. I listen to this woman and she sings it well, but don't feel anything from it. Lea sang it with feeling. Have you seen the 10th anniversary of Les Miserables ? And I just heard this girl sing the last note and it was completely flat !!!! Lea kicks her arse !!!!!!

  • @Tom6093

I'm not saying Lea is bad at all. I think they're both great but little preference for Nancy. On the other hand, I've seen Nancy live so I guess that being in the theatre really into the story probably emphasises feelings :) I don't really know... but I know I love this song... !

  • Nancy's kind of singing fits the part much better than Lea's with her vocal show-off, although she has an amazing voice.

  • Love Lea because she shows a deep passion for Marius and desperation. Love Nancy because she reminds me of a younger Eponine and she sounds more like she grew grew up on a street (in a good way). Love Nancy's accent that's why :)

  • there is a fundraiser cabaret next and im singing this song. i have trouble getting above (a) in my chest voice and i'm really not comfortable in my head voice that much.

  • 1. Love the Eponine

    2. Love the backing track, it's from the dutch cast recording with new orchestrations. Wich were a little bit fuller than the Broadway Revival.

  • I saw her in june : ) she's beautiful and talented : )

  • @lexomil17 me too. i get goose bumps whenever i listen to this.

  • My apologies to the fans of Nancy, she's beautiful and talented, this is not about her.

Just want to place this obnoxious critic wannabe in his place.

  • I met her after her one of her Le Mis performances, shes so nice!

  • omg she is such a great singer!!!! wow, i'm jealous. :) Eponine is my favorite character in Les Miserables.

  • Can anyone tell me who played Eponine on West End just before Nancy?

  • joanna ampil

  • i saw her in never forget

  • I saw her in April, and she was amazing. I'd listened to the recording thousands of times, and was worried whether Eponine would still be awesome, and she was. Nancy is the BEST Eponine, totally perfect for that role

  • hmm i do like this but i liked seeing her live better, she positively blew me away!

  • Frances Ruffelle is my favorite Eponine but she is a close second! Excellent!

  • oh my life! I went to see this in July and she was AMAZING!

  • i went to see this exact show

  • yes blonde eponine!!!

  • she's so pretty (:

  • :) i know her little cousin - she goes to my school, i still need to see les mis!

  • She is amazing! The best Éponine Ever!

    <3

  • She is good yes, but not the best ever - I preferred Sabrina Aloueche.

  • i saw her shes really good and so's Nancy but my all time fave is Lea Salonga from the 10th anniversary dream cast

  • i agree lea salonga is just amazing!

  • Lea Salonga is the only Eponine I can't stand.

  • It's only personal opinion. In MY opinion she's the best it doesnt mean you have to think the same

  • And it's only his opinion, you don't have to take it seriously.

  • neither do you

  • Pity, you have no taste for talent.

Lea has won 5 major Theater Awards as Best Actress including the Tony and Olivier.

  • To each their own.

  • Well said.

  • went to london oven easter break. saw the show and LOVED it. eponine was my favourite. i've been looking for a video like this forever!

  • I remember seeing her on i'd do anything and thinking that she could have easily won the show as whe was such a nancy character. I was soooooo disappointed when she got kicked out :( but she has shown them now by getting an awesome part!

went to see les mis last week and loved it. this is the best song ever...
