I have spent 4 hours watching nothing but Guthrie, Jack White, John Frusciante, Marty Friedman, Mark Tremonti, Joe Satriani, Jerry Cantrell, Munky, Thomas Erak, Tom Morello, and Robin Finck videos, unable to play guitar because my dad is sleeping, and I completely forgot how hungry and thirsty I was 4 hours ago
Hmm there's Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Eric Johnson, Allan Holdsworth, Guthrie Govan, Dave Kilminster, Tom Quayle, Rick Graham, Alex Hutchings, David Gilmour, Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Keith Richards, Pete Townshend, Mark Knopfler, Gary Moore, Peter Green and the list goes on...
@666patrickbateman666 ive always thought that most americans are the best at everything , like satch and that but listening to guthrie , alex and dave who are british i realise they are the best players around now , and guthrie lives 3 hours away from me , im so happy haha
Look at Guthrie's body language at the end. He seems to be saying, "Damn. Why did you make me do this?" LOL Gotta love Guthrie. It's okay, Guthrie. It's what we want to see! ;-)
believe me: guthrie is not the "Look! I can do tapping - guy". he just combines technique and feeling very well. he's not the one that wants to do a good show or something (like vai :P). it's a sad thing that every guitarist who starts playing fast is reproached for being a guitar -machine without feeling, though it might be correct in many many cases.
I'm a huge fan of GG and I know what you're saying. Here we can see a kind of "Hey Guthrie! Give us some tap so we can upload a video about it" GG: " Ok. I'll do it. But that's not the kind of stuff I usually do. Only for this particular video and only because I CAN do it perfect. But I'm not feeling it" sort of video...
I agree, I was lucky enough to have studied with him for a year and he always has the ability to shock you as a player. A true master who seems to have no boundaries
would rather listen fade to black....you see what i did there? black ... blue?....ok, it deserves to get spammed. sorry. Guthrie is awesome. I think thats sentence should save my ass from spammage.
Hey, just practice tapping up and down the pentatonic scale. Then on the chord change, practice tapping up and down the minor scale. It's not so much melodic improvisation here as it is technique.
There's only one local guy that I know that could even come close to doing that.

This is a lick that most guitarists could learn to play fairly quickly I think. But good luck getting it to be that smooth. Holy shit.

It's a shame, I think.
But yeah, i'd also prefer to do show-off movies on a guitar rather than be working in an office or so, you know :D.
But it's just sad, that a man who is so talented doesn't get the resepct her deserves!

Yeah, he is very skilled!
But he should use his talent to make some music with feeling, instead of this. This video only shows his amazing technique :)

yes, it does. so? Money! He needs to eat. So he does this things, too.
