    Snow's gone. Guess winter's over.

  • You know, if this cartoon were made today, they'd probably get Patrick Warburton to play Paul Bunyan.

  • James Earl Jones hosting like a boss!

  • I started cracking up at 'so he built a second fire to melt the first one' XD lol

  • I hated this short as a child because his VOICE is terrifying...

  • 2:31

    What the hell was that?!?

  • Fred Flintstone's a Lumberjack and he's O.K. :)

  • I Love James Earl Jones He Did A Good Job Hosting This Special.

  • I think this short movie was featured in an episode of "Sing Me a Story with Belle"

  • @TheSilverback2004 Paul was a baby and babies face separation anxiety sometimes.

  • @Klittle123 I partly agree with you. The "crap" has nothing to do with digitalisation, though. Digital animaiton is only a method, a mere technique. It's still people who need to tell a story and to use their tools at their best. So I guess Disney is lacking good storytellers. Don't always blame the digitalisation! Look at Pixar for instance! Storytelling at its best!!!

  • James Earl Jones always did give out good introductions.

I used to have the DVD of it but I lost it years ago.

  • I hate to be the people who changed Paul's diapers when he was a baby . . . . .

  • this one is funny :D

  • little Paul is so cute. :3

  • they got lost in Minnesota...lol...

  • This guys plays as Darth Vader

  • @Mega3000able also he played Mufasa from Lion King. Troy Maxson from Fences.

  • @petermullinvideos And Mr. Murtle from the Sandlot.

  • @Mega3000able And voices for Mufasa

  • Thurl Ravenscroft at his best; if y'all didn't know, he did the voice of Paul Bunyan. ;)

  • @KittyKatswellfan He was also one of the Mellow Men, who sang for shorts like this one and for Disney's 1953 film "Lady and the Tramp".

  • Man, I HATE when I build a fire and the flame freeze...

  • Ahahaha, I get it now! There's PIKE'S Peak in the West, and TYKE'S Peak in Blizzard Beach! I think; I may remembered the name of the uberkiddie area wrong.

  • @Jetsfan556

Finding Nemo was made by Pixar. Disney had nothing to do with that movie nor Pixar itself. Pixar isn't part of Disney at all.

  • @Kawelik: Actually it is. Disney bought out Pixar. It also bought out The Muppets (The Muppet Show & Muppet Babies), Power Rangers briefly (now Saban bought it back & airs it on Nick), Touchstone Pictures, and Marvel Comics. Conversely, Time-Warner owns Warner Brothers, Cartoon Network/Boomerang, Tri-Star Pictures, & DC Comics. Likewise, Viacom owns Nick, MTV Networks, Paramount Pictures, etc.

  • @TherealRNO Pixar is a completely seperate company who just happens to rely on Disney for distribution purposes. Disney never bought out Pixar.

  • @mechatech70: actually it did; it's called disney-pixar now.

  • @TherealRNO Actually, I looked up a bit more information. You are right. Disney bought Pixar in 2006 for around 7.4 billion dollars.

  • @mechatech70: yeah. unfortunately, i think the mouse house relies too heavily on pixar's cgi, since executives have been said to say that the pooh revamp of 2011 was to be the last hand-drawn 2D animated feature for awhile (probably 'cause of the turnout for princess & the frog and the fact that pooh was set up against the final harry potter film), for even tangled--as good as it is--is in 3D as well.

  • @Klittle123 You obviously didnt see finding NEMO!

  • This Paul Bunyan character seems to bring nothing but environmental degradation and economic ruination. See when he burst in on those lumberjacks, he deprived them of what should have been several months labour. The sudden influx of timber into the local market would have collapsed the market, and that community would be ruined within a year. Children would starve and the settlement would become a ghost-town. Paul Bunyan is a threat to national prosperity! He needs taking out!

  • @baronOdaighre it's a disney cartoon, i think you're reading way too much into it. most people watching this are probably doing so because it brings a sense of warm, childhood nostalgia, not to analyze the potential fallout from a mythical figure's actions. that being said, i love seeing these old cartoons, i miss being a kid :(

  • @baronOdaighre You, sir, are a hilarity...

  • Man, kids don't get Christmas gifts like that anymore let me tell ya.

  • what did he say? 1:27

  • I have this video somewhere! but i cant find it anymore :(

  • i have this on vcr

  • love it

  • Oh fuck it's Darth Vader RUN!

  • 2:28 "Well I'll be Hornswaggled. A baby!!! And it's a whopper!!!"

  • @tigerqueen007 sure hate to change those diapers

  • @skyller2s That would be a mess.

  • Walt Disney productions was the best! Why don't they reproduce these again? At least Youtube is here. Thank goodness for You Tube™

  • St. Urho rip off

  • Why can't Disney create more cartoon shorts like this anymore? All they care bout is MONEY MONEY. Used to make such great creative cartoons back then.

  • use to love watching this along with the story of johnny appleseed and a few others i forget the name of, with my grandfather. brings back alot of good memories.

  • All those trees being cut down so quickly and easily.....wow, I hope no environmentalists are watching this, it'll make them cry from here to doomsday.

  • Good gravy, theman's face at 2:30 is so random...

  • I cried about Paul Bunyan. He survived a windstorm.

  • Paul sounds like that horse from 101 delmations.

  • I have a deep voice like Thurl Ravenscroft and I can do his characters like Paul Bunyan, Kirby, and Russian Cat! I'm not exaggerating!

  • Doesn't the older paul sound slightly like paul robeson?

  • I saw that in school today ....

  • thats a low C paul sings when he first sings "with my double blade axe...." you know how hard it is for a man to sing that low and loud??? awsome! Thrul Ravenscroft must have had nuts the size of watermelons to get a voice that low

  • The original Tony the Tiger, and much more.

    RIP Thurl Ravenscroft

  • 9:18 is funny

  • Comment removed

  • is aa doubled bladed axe a good gift for a child

  • Yes.

  • I adore this cartoon! I still know it verbatim ! Ha! No kidding.

  • Good ol' Thurl

  • You know, i did the math for that '63 axe handles high' bit. If you assume that the average length of the typical long felling axe is 35 inches, multiply it by 63 and divide the whole thing by 12 (to represent feet), it would come out suggesting Paul Bunyan being exactly 183.75 feet tall.

  • sounds bout right :)

  • Poor old Paul Bunyan would get thrown in jail by the EPA if he were to head west with his big axe today!

  • Paul in this cartoon sort of sounds like the crocodile from Lady and the Tramp!

  • It is James Earl Jones! Luke i am your father.

    P.S. these aren't the droids u r looking for.

  • lmao we watched this in english today x3

  • I love these old cartoons...they sure dont make them like they used too now.

I am appalled though by the some people think that Disney or WB were racist, or placed hidden messages, scenes, or sayings in their cartoons. I bet some people would find something wrong with this cartoon...say enviornmentalists...LOL!!!

  • They say it was Paul Bunyan that brought the lumber industry here to Oregon.

  • i would so pay anything to see paul bunyon vs john henry! lol i love this video :P

  • lol ...well I'll be hon swaggled...they don't make cartoons like this anymore...this really is the pinacle of cartoons.

  • 4:57 Um, how is Paul not freezing in that weather xD?

  • Cuz...he's PAUL BUNYAN...LOL

  • did you know: some say the story of Paul Bunyan has some connection to Norse mythology? At that time most loggers were Scandinavian immigrants; they kinda fused the stories of the Norse god Thor with American culture, and that's how Paul Bunyan came about:)!

  • would be kinda cool if they put 6:57-7:05 in 3D at Disneyland, that'd be a heck of an attraction XD

  • You're right about that.

  • I'm glad I just confirmed that it's "63 axe handles high". I watched this frequently as a child and thought that they were saying 6 feet 3. All this time I thought my dad was the same size as Paul Bunyan.

  • Yes.. long ago and far away I recall seeing this... now i know I am OLD, LOL

  • x7ian thats mainly how the people got around int those days....wood...without it they wouldve starved and have no homes -.- i agree on people cutting down way to many trees but we need trees for money paper pencils and alot more stuff...so get over it!

  • ganda ung bata pa ako favorite ko yan tapos laki sabi ko higanti ba yan?

  • darth vader!!!!

  • yup thats him hes also the guy that plays the voice of simba's dad on the lion king i think...

  • yh dats James Earl Jones he played the dad in 'Coming to America' with Eddie Murphy and the voice of Simba's dad in the Lion King

  • Canadians are good loggers, especially those British Columbians!

  • i love it. this is a real cartoon!!!!

  • @bgfree1 tikes peak

  • Historians say that the paul Bunyan story comes from a French Canadian named Paul Bunienne.

But that's okay by me. I love the Paul Bunyan story. The USA and Canada were the world's leading supplier of lumber in the 1800's. It's only natural that there would be a fable of a giant lumberjack.

  • Lets set the record straight. Minnesota has more paul bunyan statues/theme parks and events than any other state

  • Paul bunyan is voiced by Thurl Ravenscroft

  • RIP Thurl Ravenscroft, our Paul Bunyan

  • huh

  • I realy love this cartoon when I listen the song, bring me back great recalls.

  • i was Paul Bunyan in a school film

  • i read this book

  • i forgot about this! I love it!!!

  • Ah, this cartoon brings back memories!

  • at least it was just a story that never happened

  • Is this from the Disney Heroes dvd? The one about Johnny Appleseed, John Henry, and Pecos Bill?

  • yes it is.

  • this is one of the greatest cartoons ever created. it was a really important part of my life growing up, its burned into my being. i remember my dad singing the song from the beverly hillbillies to me when i was very young, and i'll sing the song of paul bunyan to my son. what a treasure!

  • That's an old french canadian legend!

  • French Canadian? I thought it was Maine. Paul Bunyan is a Mainer. In Bangor there's a statue of Paul Bunyan

  • Brilliant cartoon. Has one of the most catchiest songs Disney has ever composed :)

  • Best picture of James Earl Jones, ever.

  • squirrel check this out.....love this cartoon...yes,i even see cartoons...there good for the soul

  • Earth First must hate this cartoon.

  • They must hate all lumberjacks and those things used to build homes too...:P
