@Klittle123 I partly agree with you. The "crap" has nothing to do with digitalisation, though. Digital animaiton is only a method, a mere technique. It's still people who need to tell a story and to use their tools at their best. So I guess Disney is lacking good storytellers. Don't always blame the digitalisation! Look at Pixar for instance! Storytelling at its best!!!
Ahahaha, I get it now! There's PIKE'S Peak in the West, and TYKE'S Peak in Blizzard Beach! I think; I may remembered the name of the uberkiddie area wrong.
@Kawelik: Actually it is. Disney bought out Pixar. It also bought out The Muppets (The Muppet Show & Muppet Babies), Power Rangers briefly (now Saban bought it back & airs it on Nick), Touchstone Pictures, and Marvel Comics. Conversely, Time-Warner owns Warner Brothers, Cartoon Network/Boomerang, Tri-Star Pictures, & DC Comics. Likewise, Viacom owns Nick, MTV Networks, Paramount Pictures, etc.
@mechatech70: yeah. unfortunately, i think the mouse house relies too heavily on pixar's cgi, since executives have been said to say that the pooh revamp of 2011 was to be the last hand-drawn 2D animated feature for awhile (probably 'cause of the turnout for princess & the frog and the fact that pooh was set up against the final harry potter film), for even tangled--as good as it is--is in 3D as well.
This Paul Bunyan character seems to bring nothing but environmental degradation and economic ruination. See when he burst in on those lumberjacks, he deprived them of what should have been several months labour. The sudden influx of timber into the local market would have collapsed the market, and that community would be ruined within a year. Children would starve and the settlement would become a ghost-town. Paul Bunyan is a threat to national prosperity! He needs taking out!
@baronOdaighre it's a disney cartoon, i think you're reading way too much into it. most people watching this are probably doing so because it brings a sense of warm, childhood nostalgia, not to analyze the potential fallout from a mythical figure's actions. that being said, i love seeing these old cartoons, i miss being a kid :(
Why can't Disney create more cartoon shorts like this anymore? All they care bout is MONEY MONEY. Used to make such great creative cartoons back then.
use to love watching this along with the story of johnny appleseed and a few others i forget the name of, with my grandfather. brings back alot of good memories.
All those trees being cut down so quickly and easily.....wow, I hope no environmentalists are watching this, it'll make them cry from here to doomsday.
thats a low C paul sings when he first sings "with my double blade axe...." you know how hard it is for a man to sing that low and loud??? awsome! Thrul Ravenscroft must have had nuts the size of watermelons to get a voice that low
You know, i did the math for that '63 axe handles high' bit. If you assume that the average length of the typical long felling axe is 35 inches, multiply it by 63 and divide the whole thing by 12 (to represent feet), it would come out suggesting Paul Bunyan being exactly 183.75 feet tall.
I love these old cartoons...they sure dont make them like they used too now.
I am appalled though by the some people think that Disney or WB were racist, or placed hidden messages, scenes, or sayings in their cartoons. I bet some people would find something wrong with this cartoon...say enviornmentalists...LOL!!!
did you know: some say the story of Paul Bunyan has some connection to Norse mythology? At that time most loggers were Scandinavian immigrants; they kinda fused the stories of the Norse god Thor with American culture, and that's how Paul Bunyan came about:)!
I'm glad I just confirmed that it's "63 axe handles high". I watched this frequently as a child and thought that they were saying 6 feet 3. All this time I thought my dad was the same size as Paul Bunyan.
x7ian thats mainly how the people got around int those days....wood...without it they wouldve starved and have no homes -.- i agree on people cutting down way to many trees but we need trees for money paper pencils and alot more stuff...so get over it!
Historians say that the paul Bunyan story comes from a French Canadian named Paul Bunienne.
But that's okay by me. I love the Paul Bunyan story. The USA and Canada were the world's leading supplier of lumber in the 1800's. It's only natural that there would be a fable of a giant lumberjack.
this is one of the greatest cartoons ever created. it was a really important part of my life growing up, its burned into my being. i remember my dad singing the song from the beverly hillbillies to me when i was very young, and i'll sing the song of paul bunyan to my son. what a treasure!

Finding Nemo was made by Pixar. Disney had nothing to do with that movie nor Pixar itself. Pixar isn't part of Disney at all.
