Good review, except that you kept calling it a metroidvania game and it is most *definitely* not. There seems to be level bases with no backtracking and your gear is reset every level.

Wow, haven't seen the lives mechanic used in long time. I guess they make sense for a platformer, though. Maybe it's because the last time I played a platformer was when I pulled my SNES from the garage, for some nostalgia.

I don't get why modern games need lives, either they're useless because you get a fuckton of them or they're annoying because you only get enough to get by, and still have to restart a lot.

They worked back when we had arcades but now they seem silly.

@MarkALoopy On the other hand, isn't playing a platformer in which there are no game overs rather boring? The ability to run out of lives forces you to gain some skill in the game, instead allowing you to try over and over again while you're shooting in all directions.
