The scene starting at 5:52 is wonderfully scary and exhilarating. One of the bets bits of the entire Night Gallery series. Remember seeing it as a kid and it always haunted me ever since. The demon [ who makes the same croaking roars as the black lagoon creature ] makes an awesome appearence outside the cellar window...smashing the glass.. ripping aside the steel bars...
@whyyyyou I was thinking the same thing today when I watched it, I remember when I was very young and almost fainted due to watching this. I know some might look at it and go it's silly by today's standards, but god was it, and it still is, very very creepy
The only thing about this episode I find disappointing, is the final appearence of the demon. It looks like Ruth Buzzi from Laugh-In. Made up as an old witch. I thought the mass of black with the red eyes and clawed hands was great. They should've left it at that. The final shot of the demon as a smoldering pile of ashes with red eyes, like burning coals, is pretty close to what I would've imagined the thing to look like had it stepped into full view.
@whyyyyou as an adult watching it I agree with you, but as a kid it burnt in my mind until now. I have been watching as many Night Gallery shows as possible, this along with A Matter of Semantics, and to a small extent both The Caterpilla and the The Cemetery, proves it was scary, funny and ironic. How many shows can do this now?
@brismike65 None today I'm willing to bet. Shows like Night Gallery will hold up long after todays tv series are forgotten. It's great that it's finally gotten it's due after being overshadowed for years by The Twilight Zone. Reference books, dvds,youtube,ect...
This episode, Fright Night, The Doll and Since Aunt Ada Came to Stay are my favorites. I noticed that the episodes I have recorded on VHS years ago are edited. I need these on DVD.
Was that Mark Hamill? Ok...I just saw someone else claiming it was...

Ruth Buzzy? I haven't seen the last part in 40 years. As I remember, it looked like Tiny Tim of tulips fame.
