Hey, you all should know that very, VERY few black people like to see young white people singing soul with all their mights. It reminds them that all whites are not bad. First and formoest Joss's voice is good but it ain't the full package. She has limited range. She forces her voice too much to be soulful. She relies to much on trying to sound like her influences. I know because I have a good ear for soul music.
I don't like her version to me it sounds too hard rough and monotonous. She tried to hard and too much to try to get the point of the song across. Some may justify that she was feeling the song but there is a difference between feeling and forcing. She ruined it when she did the warbling around the end.
I think on that particular night she was looking at everybody crazy. Fantasia, Jennifer, and Ruben also. It probably was her. I have seen the same look on her face when other people perform her songs. Like Patti and Gladys.

Hmm no biology put that voice into her, sorry I'm atheist too. but again another of my quirks, social labelling and making people number 1 is also weird to me, never understood it. Yes I can see that some may think she is the be all and end all of music, but not everybody does, and while I respect your views, I just ask that people respect how I see it also, don't gotta agree.
But thankyou for reply in a pleasant way, makes a nice change not being abused on youtube for a differing opinion! = )

Also I luv the fact u seem to know exactly what is goin on in Arethas head. My guess is u really dont and that bein the case u really cant say whether this "legend" liked this phenomenal performance or not

i think joss sounds good nonetheless.
what's important is the love of music right? and i think her voice is just right for what she's trying to do, for what kind of vibe she's trying to give off.
range is great, tone is great, but what it all comes down to is the soul. if you really mean what you're singing, and these girls do feel what they sing.
just appreciate. criticism can only go so far. once it reaches too far, you're only destroying yourself.

Umm Joss's voice is serious.. it is pure untampered with soul... and her pipes are really good.. Joss can sing... now better than Jennifer thats a bit too much... but better than Fantasia... for sure!

I am sick of the Joss hatin on here. The girl has serious PIPES. Her voice is more quality than Jennifer, Fantasia, and Ruben put together. Joss is in a league of own compared to other singers today. And yes I will say it, Joss (to me) put more quality (esp at the beginning) than Aretha. Just because she was the original singer doesn't mean shit to me.

Fantasia is more on a lead of her own because Fantasia has more unique style of singing and image. Even Jennifer is more on her own league to.

First and formoest Joss's voice is good but it ain't the full package. She has limited range. She forces her voice too much to be soulful. She relies to much on trying to sound like her influences. I know because I have a good ear for soul music.

I dig Whitney Houston's Mary J Blige's Donna Summers and even Kelly Clarkson a lot more.
They sound natural and soulful.
I have an ear people Joss started good in the beginning but she ruined it around the end.

I don't like her version to me it sounds too hard rough and monotonous. She tried to hard and too much to try to get the point of the song across. Some may justify that she was feeling the song but there is a difference between feeling and forcing. She ruined it when she did the warbling around the end.

I think on that particular night she was looking at everybody crazy. Fantasia, Jennifer, and Ruben also. It probably was her. I have seen the same look on her face when other people perform her songs. Like Patti and Gladys.

You can't compare joss to Mariah or Whitney. Those are other singers, great singers.
Joss has her own style, she is full of soul!!!!! Mariah and Whitney aren't.
Listen to 'Soul sessions'. It's awesome, full of soul, and it's Joss!! Great voice.
Personally I think Joss is better then Mariah and Whitney, just because she has that soul-thing :)
