The more I hear this song, the more I feel it gives a deep message. It in a way conveys an essence of life. We should look at the simple and good things of life and derive happiness from them. Instead, we always tend to gravitate towards negatives, worries. Thus, our life goes by and happiness still remains elusive. Look at the flower, the moon, they spread their happiness and die happy. But nature has such a balance, it gives humans the ability to love and at the same time suffer for love.
Love is a name of pain. But people always welcome this pain, that is why they fall in love since the first human beings arrival in this universe. One thing is that a night is leading towards a sun shining morning. Pain comes to relive it. And this is Love which teach a human how to see a dream, dream of happiness,
This is love which make me hopeful to be alive in this beautiful earth, to pass some more unknown beautiful moment of my life by holding with my dearest one.
MY FAVORITE TAGORE SONG : The birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore will be observed across the world,Paying due tribute to the most celebrated Bengali poet, playwright, novelist, composer and painter...
@samimkhan1972 the song came first in the form of poetry(in slightly different form) in a drama named 'bhagna hriday' (broken heart) which Tagore wrote when he was in his teens(possibly 18/19)..
"bhalo bese onek dukhho hoi"ae sotti ta nia ami hindi ,bangla ,english, urdu te hazar hzar gaan sunechi kintu robithakur bapartar dimension tai paltedilen aar montake khusite bhoria dilen.sotti kobi tumi gobhirotar o ghobhire jete jano.tomake lokkho koti pronam.
I agree with you on the point made by you w.r.t KK. also apologies for writing kanchenjungha instead of agantuk. however kk was used in charulata and ghare baire to suit soumitra and because of the reqd imperfections. both the songs were not meant to be projected as songs in the film. georgeda showed distinct drift from the customary style but was primarily a rs singer. that is the point i wanted to make. current rendition lacks the soul inspite of gramatical correctness.
Lataji's rendition is not great. Voice tooooo shrill for Rabindrasangeet. Adequately made up with Accoustic base guitar. Wonder why Mohordi or sumitra sen was not used in those days. Look at Satyajit Ray or Ritwik Ghatak they always used Rabindrasangeet singers to do playback in thier movies. Sramana guhathakurta was used wonderfully well by Ray in Kanchenjungha. Georgeda was the all time fav of Ritwk Ghatak.
@lahiridilli Satyajit Roy used Kishore kumar in two separate movies for rabindra sangeet who was not a regular rabindra sangeet singer. Georgeda was also far from typical Rabindra sangeet singer. Sramana Guha thakurtha was used by Roy in Agantuk not in Kanchanjangha..in Kanchanjangha Amita Thakur sang 'E parabase rabe ke' both singing a rabindra sangeet in the movie as 'rabindra sangeet'..
Srry to say this, but Latadidi has destroyed the song. It sounds like any of her many commercially successful bengali and/or hindi songs--not like a real Rabindra Sangit..
Though Lataji is one of my favorite singers, there is no other way than agreeing with you but soulless and flat will be the right words.Probably because she didn't know the literary meaning of the song.
In my opinion, the real reason for soullessness is the non-bengali accent of Lataji, which prevents the song from reaching the height, it could have reached otherwise. This non-bengali accent of Lataji doesn't create problem for other film or nonfilm bengali song of Lataji. But only when it is rabindrasangeet, we bengalis I suppose wouldn't compromise for anything inferior in quality. Hemanta Mukherjee was absolutely wrong, when he suggested Lata to start singing bengali song with Rabindrasangit.
Hemanta Mukherjee was not the first to get Lata mangeshkar in Rabindra Sangeet-It was Rabindrasangeet trainer Dwijen Choudhury in BOU THAKURANIR HAAT.
I have personally no problem with non-Bengali accent for Tagore songs. K.L. Saigal has several Tagore songs all very popular..
Dearie, wht r all these worries & pains u're talkng abt when u are in love? What IS this love? Does it really bring such pains, tears or sighs of sorrow? Then why do ppl crave for such suffering? To me, all I see in luv is so young & charming, lovely skies, green valleys & moonlit nights & all these sing & play with me knwing no sorrows & tears..flowers wither away in a laugh & the moon smilingly bids farewell.. I'm so hppy in luv, so leave ur everyday griefs & instead break into my song of luv
And what is love? Is it only pain and tears? Why do we seek love if it only brings this heartbreak?
No.. love flows because it must flow. It happens beyond the calculations of profit and loss.. like the flower that dies smiling or the moonlight that disappears in joy..
So it is with love. I'm happy to be in love whether pain comes with it or not.. So let me welcome the entry of love in my heart with joy and not sorrow.. :-)
It is just a half translation ... rather just an essence of the song with personal touches thrown in by the translator ... dont know why ppl have to use their own merit and words when the actual song is so much richer in words ... translate the full song in its full glory if u must ...
I don't know why the hell you, dibsrocks, have to be so critical about dipteshg's interpretation of this song. Just enjoy listening to this beautiful song.
@dipteshg123 That's a really apt translation I might say, considering the fact that it's extremely difficult to convey the finer emotions behind a Rabindrasangeet piece when it is being translated.
While Lata does an admirable job on the strength of her voice, nothing beats Reswana Choudhury Bonna's version of this song! It is absolutely priceless.
and i dnt believe rabindrasangeet can only be sung by bengalis..lata is a genius..wordings and prononciation cant prevent her talent to come through.....thank God she was chosen to sing this song.. I think only arati and arundhati could have competed with her..
Is this song sung by lata? If taht is the case then still lata sang bangla perfectly. those artists were all multilingual like lata gita dutt sadhay . about arati i do not know. but all the rabindras song is so meaningful. bangla is indeed rich, very rich
lata r kabita dujoneri gala ache ete...sandhya rayer gole kobita ..sesh jaygatay..mainly latar golatei ganta....one of her best rabindrasangeet...much better than sumitra sen's version...emotions can be felt in her voice...masterclass

It is Pronunciation...and Oh! as Dan Skye says "First learn how to sing and do pitch correction"; the tone and tune makes or breaks an appeal. Bottom line Lata/Asha is where they are - not world famous in Bengal.
Let us be non-emotional and be objective folks. Being a non-Bengali she brought Bengal's songs to rest of India...ofcourse add to it Kishore and Asha too.
Even though I agree withyou completely that Lata's Bangla rendering is not perfect I liked it more than Sumitra's. Comparing both, I think Lata's seems more up close...personal, I would even say fleshy (never thought I d use this adjective about a Rabindrasangeet!). But may be music director deserves the credit and has been instructed by the film's need. Thanks kausik!
It's not how they're singing, I think it's more important that people from many religions and speaking a variety of languages have always been attracted to singing Rabindranath's compositions - this phenomenon is rare. Find another poet whose compositions have attracted so many artists :)

1.Dear what do you mean by thoughts (feelings)/ how do you feel the sorrows/ daylong you whisper about love to me/ ...but what are the feelings of love?
To my eyes (to me/as per my feelings) everything is heavenly/ everything fresh/everything new/ the blue sky, green forest, dull moonlight and tender lotus/ they all are just like me.
4.They are always with smile like me/they keep on singing as I do/ they just want to be with happiness/ they do not know what is pain/they do not know what are tears/even they can not feel any pain arising out of all these wishful desires
