I miss the old NS with the 3 hour games with marines trying to break into ventilation on ns_caged and the 3 hour battles in generator on ns_nothing. I miss babblers, 2 hive acid rocket and walls of lame. The more "mature" NS gets, the more is starts to feel like counterstrike with aliens.

Counter-Strike with aliens is oversimplifying things. It's a different game with _much_ richer tech tree, better balanced gameplay and more options for teamwork, tactics and such. You'll just need to look a little deeper in to the game and its logic and think about it a bit.

Originally NS was like an RTS that you played inside. You needed a decent commander to have a good game, but this wasn't impossibly difficult to arrange.

But they decided to introduce NS Combat and make it all more pubber/noob friendly. It became like CS with a tech tree. No teamwork, no map depth, no strategy, etc. Just a bunch of players running around ramboing the other team so they can level up faster.

No one who played in the old 1.0x days would say what you did.

I've played more or less actively since 1.03.

Back then the games were always using the same JP or HA tech on some versions. If you take a look at organised play at 1.04, you'll see how limited the strategies were.

Now its a lot more flexible and there's more teamwork than any team can master at this activity ns has. I miss the 1.04 epicness too, but it wouldn't have lasted much longer because the game structure was already being pushed to the limits.
