about the ethnicity of samouth

in cambodia b4 apr 1975, there never was an issue of the ethnicity of samouth or of kung som oeun or whoever. every1 knew that samouth was mixed with laotian. but that was no issue. no1 ever raised that question. every1 knew that most cambodians were mixed-raced. every1 knew that the mixed-raced were patriotic.

only now that there are some people who make samouth's ethnicity in2 an issue. these people are backward un-educated putz who never lived in cambodia.

Eventhough Si sasamouth half Khmer and Laos,but he spoke only Khmer, when he sang in Siam language he used France pronunciation. You can listen to Siam version.

Because this was a joint film by a Khmer and Thai production there was two versions of the film. Sinn Sisamouth and Dy Saveth sang both versions of this song in Khmer and Thai for both audiences.

When I was a little boy, my dad told me that Sinn Sisamouth could speak Loa. I don't know he spoke Thai of not. I guess both languages are similar. So I assume he could speak Thai too.

He was a smart man, in those days, Cambodia had communications with its neighbors. Sihanouk went to Vietnam to study, trade and cinema was common with Thailand. It would have been a useful skill to be able to speak Thai, and his roots supported this.
