My 2 yo is like that too and he doesn't have autism (at least they don't think so)...he has the sensory issues and is in the definite difference range for auditory processing. Maybe he has some auditory processing difficulties going on....or if it is autism...its high functioning....like aspergers or PDD-NOS.
@crazybusywonderful his developmental doctor says that he shows red flags in the spectrum but diagnosis will be "very mild and a high functioning form like aspergers", but at the last appointment she did the screening test and she was labeling is PDD (i dont think she mentioned NOS but we'll find out). I'm hoping to get the report from his 21 month follow-up report in the mail soon. But he'll be seen again in Jan. for the diagnostic testing
He doesn't seem like he's totally ignoring you, he just doesn't want to hear what you have to say lol. As it is, and we've talked about this before, I watched a boy with severe autism, and Noah is NOTHING like him at all. He obviously is a happy little boy, he just does things his own way, and when he's not wanting to answer, he won't. As terrifying as this is for you, don't stress too much, you two will figure it out together.
Definitely go through early intervention first. It's free and you will get services for your son based on his needs then you can go from there if you feel he needs private therapy. My son did and still does early intervention and gets private therapy. Getting started early on anything helps so much. My son is doing amazing(almost 3) he was just medically diagnosed with PDD-NoS and they told us we are doing exactly what we need to do with him. So thats great. As his mom you know what's best and
I think personally this is early for a "medical" diagnosis but going through Early Intervention is another story.. I want to talk to you more... My son does not always respond but so do a lot of toddlers. You can go through the school district and get FREE screening if you are worried. Does he have any sensory or feeding issues? If you get him screened they will want to make sure to have an updated hearing test done.
@alandamandamama luckily our insurance covers all his medical bills so i'm gunna wait until January to see what the final diagnosis is. I'm not too worried because the doctor says it looks like it would be very mild autism and high functioning like aspergers. no sensory or feeding issues unless he stims which is something that has me wondering. N the fact that he's always been that way with "selective hearing" lol even as in infant. The stimming I wanna message you about if's that OK
He seems like a typical kid for his age and starting to give parents the shove off which only get worse over time. By the time they start middle school they want to be dropped of for school two block away from school and to deny that they even have parents.
