I was 13 at the time & when this song hit the US charts I think it suprised everyone. A full Japanese song with NO english translation consideration! It was such a pleasing - relaxing tune (no one knew or could sing the lyrics) that it just naturally fit in as an uplifting contrast to the pre-British rock-invasion music, that was about to hit our shores. In the same catagory as Nat King Cole's 'Lazy Hazy Days of Summer'.single. Teens were getting tired of that Beach Party rock & roll stuff!
Wow... This takes me way back, and I mean way back... I was seven years old when this came out, and I recall hearing it on the radio as we travel the roads going to littlerock dam. Littlerock Dam is in So. California in the Antelope Valley where I grew up. I never forgot this song, and still love it to this day, and no one will ever be able to sing it the way Kyu Sakamoto did. Rest in peace...
