  • Great British Engineering

  • how did they manage to get a baby deltic engine?

  • @ACTractionLTD It was used in an experimental USSR space rocket in the 60s

  • @ACTractionLTD There was one left from the days when they used them. just one.

  • zontar doesn't deserve to masturbate to this epic noise!

  • Does Zontar masturbate? I think he would cream himself without the effort if he heard that fire up

  • kool. cnt wait to see her back on the mainline one day

  • I think I may have this as a ringtone and put it on Vibrate 8-)

  • @lewisner the noise would melt your phone - and quite rightly!!!

  • @thehoff1982 What a way to go though!

  • Tingle down the spine! Amazing sound.

  • Truly shows resolution ain't everything, this is one of the best audio captures I've heard of this!

The Baby Deltic really does sound rather more angry than the larger versions, sort of like the comparison between a V8 and V12 in the automotive world...Love the noise.

  • @ladanut275 " angry " I thought that myself! Maybe it is because it is in a smaller bodyshell than a 55?

  • Man I just LOVE that Deltic sound!!!!! <3

  • love the way they sound like a bag of spanners at start up and shutdown with that wonderful exhaust note when running

  • You can hear it wines more: the turbo is plumbed in on this yeah! Not very smokey for a 50 year old PU!

  • Wonderful sound that brings back many happy memories. Such a shame the Baby Deltics were one of English Electric's very few failures

  • What an awsome sound,, the baby sounds even more angry than her big sisters did.. thanks for posting this

  • WOW!!! I am gutted that none of the baby deltics were preserved - why wasn't D5901 saved before it left Derby to be cut up????? Loving the Deltic sound with a Turbo!!!!

  • @dangerousandy Interesting argument, People were more inclined to buy a couple of "Westerns" and seven of them were quite numerous around its time while 24032 was saved for the NYMR when there were scores of other withdrawn but serviceable Class 24s to choose from and as you can see, most of them were switched off, Of course D5901 would have been a very useful engine and as claimed by the fat controller giving that a 52 like D1048 spending nearly a whole time stored in various locations.

  • awsome angry sound... just love it. What's Mike Ried up to at 1.23 tho???? I thought he was dead lol

  • WTF, whys it in mainline livery?

  • Because that's who owned/leased the class 37 when it was last in regular use.

  • I commented before I saw the rest of the loco, I didnt know it had a 37 bodyshell and original baby deltics wernt painted in mainline blue, so I just got confused
