Jimi Hendrix was no match for Ritchie Blackmore. I don`t care what anyone says. Ritchie Blackmore as long as he lives is second to no one now and always has been.
Jimi Hendrix was no match for Ritchie Blackmore. I don`t care what anyone says. Ritchie Blackmore as long as he lives is second to none now and always has been.
I defy anyone to name a better rock guitarist than Ritchie Blackmore in the 70s no one and i mean no one has ever played guitar like Blackers did during those years he was awful at times during the 80s but recovered brilliantly in the 90s and at times got close to his level in the 70s he is still playing brilliantly even now at 64 in Blackmores Night
I have always been dissapointed with Blackers live playing in the 80s OK maybe awful is a bit strong but compared to his level in the 70s and then again in the 90s his live playing during the 80s was nowhere even close to that standard he had a dreadful live tone and played very sloppily at times during the 80s though there were still of course some signs of the mans genius and he was still brilliant in the studio
Blackers was never into drugs he likes a drink though but to be honest i would have thought the late 60s early 70s would have been a more wild time for Blackers as he was in his 40s by the middle of the 80s none of which excuses his level playing in the 80s for me he had simply lost interest he admitted himself the Deep Purple reunion was for the money and he couldnt really be bothered how or what he was playing at that point Ian Gillans voice problems didnt help things either
because the rating associated with the popular and he was not popular but he was the best of all popular. he is the king of kings, master of the masters. lovin' Blackmore past and present .......forever
Precisely. That is exactly the case. The ratings were all influenced by the popular North American knowledge on the issue. The ratings more than definitely do not represent the World, nor they do represent the reality. People know that, Ritchie knows it. Myself, for instance, will never understand as to how exactly so many guitar players ended up way in front of # 55 (Ritchie that is) and how many others ended up way behind # 55 ?
and again .... Don't tell me Kurt Cobain knew guitar more than what Steve Howe knows, or Ritchie Blackmore knows ? And that Ritchie Blackmore knows less guitar and left less legacy behind than what Pete Townsend is all about ? Don't tell me John Fogerty knows guitar more than Ritchie ?.......no offence, but ratings are not fair at all.
Nirvana is my favourite band, and of course Kurt Cobain as a musician too, but no one who has any idea of playing guitar would ever say that he was a guitarist like Ritchie Blackmore. Even Kurt Cobain himself had known that he's not the best guitar player..
John Fogerty is a good guitar player, better than Kurt Cobain was of course, and a great musician too, one of my favourites from this time, but not as good as Blackmore too.. I think there's no doubt about it.
well...he isn't an asshole..it's just ian gillans opinion..most of the people he has worked with says he can be very moody, but he can also be the nicest guy in the world..he is a man of many characters
james hetfield, lars ulrich and metallica at all are int the hall till this year! don't u think that james or lars aren't such assholes as Ritchie ?)))
when it comes to performance and his ability on the guitar on the guitar, ritchie is defintely number one in my opinion. i often compare him to uli jon roth when it comes to how relaxed he looks while goen at it.l rock on ritchie!
rocknrollman,be that as it may, balckmore outplayed hendrix in any possible way...hendrix is a legend, true, but blackmore is the heart of rock and roll...everyone wanted and still want to be like him and to do what he did...
This man must have played over 1000000000000000000000000000 different guitar solos in his life...best improviser on earth in my opinion! Also the best guitarist ever!
oh man i almost feel the same way!! what a groove he has in his solos... between Page and Blackmore i dunno who to choose.. i like em both equal.. but Ritchie's groove!! awesomesauce !!

to state such a thing as opinion, to me, is almost tasteless.
but to state that shit as a fact should be grounds for insanity.
don't get me wrong, this has it's moments of brilliance, but it lacks the easy transition of tempos and sometimes even genre's, that you saw in the Woodstock Improv. it also has like, half the chord changes.
plus, at one point, Jimi was playing with 3 simultaneous melodies, by using his thumb to fret the bass, which freed his fingers for the rhythm and lead
Well, surely you have to admit that Blackmore is less sloppy, uses a greater variety of scales and is technically better. Blackmore's stuff is also harder to play than Hendrix's.
ill-informed. Blackmore is fairly traditional, albeit complex...Hendrix is simply unorthodox. he can give you the hardest time playing things that were simple for him, i.e. Little Wing. he can fret the root chords with his huge thumb, while the player has to figure it out themselves.
the scales part, it really just proves the insignificance of scales in the long run, because the greatest didn't even need them. a lot of Hendrix phrases are composed of not one, but mutltiple, even foreign scales
look up the song "Valleys of Neptune (guitar)", by Hendrix. its just a guitar part for an unfinished Hendrix song. listen to it. listen to it again...and THEN tell me Blackmore is harder to play than Hendrix. if you get the right one, you may shit yourself.
if I hadn't seen Jimi play in video, I would say the guitar is overdubbed, because it sounds like theres 3 guys playing.
Ritchie Blackmore single-handedly brought metal from being fucking lame chugging ala Sabbath to inspiring some of the greatest technical geniuses to ever walk the planet.
Tell me this: Why is it that theres 100000 Hendrix impersonators, yet theres still only one Blackmore?
because Hendrix inspires more than Blackmore? how is that relevant?
impersonate doesn't mean mimic as well as the original. I've seen legends like Uli Jon Roth not even be able to swiftly switch between rhythm/lead when they cover Jimi (Voodoo Child), as well guys like Gary Moore get stuck repeating phrases when soloing over a single Hendrix song....Hendrix didn't repeat a phrase in his career, let alone single cut
On "Rainbow" a critical review a spokesman speaks of hearing Blackmore playing with Lord Such, early sixties, playing feedback... he goes on to state that this was long before Hendrix came onto the scene.
"I was impressed by Hendrix. Not so much by his playing, as his attitude - he wasn't a great player, but everything else about him was brilliant. Even the way he walked was amazing. His guitar playing, though, was always a little bit weird.
Hendrix inspired me, but I was still more into Wes Montgomery. I was also into the Allman Brothers around the time of those albums."
His influence transcends generations, musical styles,& the ignorance of guitar mag.& rock journalists who should know better. Certainly he deserves consideration as the greatest hard rock/heavy metal talent of all time! An outstanding virtuoso, whose creative expansion and technical chops have not deteriorated over the years like many other overrated media faves. Blackmore plays with a signature passion beyond words, a commitment to excellence & perfection that often colours him "Difficult."
Ok I know that Hendrix has influenced Blackmore but there was no way Hendrix could play like Rithcie..No one could..that's why he was is and will ever be the best!!!
Matoya, you're right, at 1:15, he does some ineffably, inexplicably awesome. If one believes in such things, it's the product of divine inspiration/intervention.
man he is good. that's all. i hear a big deal made of so many. for instance, i'd take blackmore over moore and page any day of the week. not to mention that putz malmsteen. then again, i don't make my living playing my 7 guitars.
OK - so I get it now about Ritchie - but this level of playing of his is so hard to find - there aren't many Purple tracks where he is ever allowed this amount of FEEL and even with Rainbow I'm searching hard for more that a few mins of this level of sheer brilliance. Any suggestions where to look?
Hey! Thanks! Ordered! There were a lot of Live albums and so I got Rainbow Rising first - which was ok - but yeah, not at this level, or only in bursts. I'm also getting that his earlier period is the one where feel was more important than speed... Thanks.
