@AndreaMaciejewski Thank you for your prayers. Most certainly I shall pray that a Center opens in Detroit. I have yet to find full time employment, but somehow God blesses and provides at every turn and corner, and I can only smile with gratitude. Till now, the formation and support of Opus Dei astounds me, and I never cease to give praise to God for their holy friendship in my life.
The people in Opus Dei are not saints necessarily, and so individuals may have poor experiences with individuals. St. Josemaria Escriva, founder of Opus Dei, is a saint. Opus Dei is a saintly undertaking, and for those who are called to it, it serves to bring us closer to Christ and sanctify our work. It's not about a membership, as about a personal and special call to holiness, and a daily and personal sanctification for the good of the world. This is my experience of Opus Dei.
Btw, it's true that they do pay attention to those who show leadership potential in school or business, but that's for a practical reason. If the successful boss or leader becomes holy and loves Jesus Christ, they will sanctify their work, give good witness, and benefit those they lead with Godly lives. But if such leaders lose their way, receive bad formation, become less than holy, then everyone else suffers. But certainly, they don't just open their arms to the elite. I am proof of that.
@maltaknight69 God bless your testimony. Have you found employment? Many of my friends here in the Detroit area are struggling with this. I will pray for you for this. Also, could I request that you pray that we may get an Opus Dei Center here in Detroit? God has put it on my heart, I believe, that this is His Will. We have many Knights of Malta out here, by the way. God's work is so interesting and fruitful! God bless you.
@jzcp99 it's unfortunate that you experienced what you did, although I never experienced that myself with Opus Dei. To be honest, I'm unemployed and struggling to make ends meet, but opus dei has only supported and welcomed me with great warmth and affection. Not just me but many like me. Whether successful or poor, we're all encouraged to grow in love & holiness, especially as husbands and fathers, because the work we do is more than just professional. And I am grateful to the formation given.
I know because of my unfortunate experiences with the up and coming rich and arrogant at the Tenley Study Center, they seem to believe Jesus made a mistake in seeking out the poor and go after the rich Pharisees (in order to better influence society, they quite literally claim). They are a cold, callous and cult-like bunch of liars who act like everything's a major secret, and pat themselves on the back for being a supposed "sign of contradiction" and look at themselves as persecuted martyrs.

How to become an Opus Dei member:
1. Become part of a profession that makes you an upper class mover and shaker in society.
2. Contact Opus Dei, where you will be welcomed with open arms, urged to join, and told your soul is in danger for disobeying God's will if you don't.
Opus Dei: It really is all about the money.
