Holy cow do not let the federal government know your showing people how to build homes that do not cost them half a million dollars. They will find a new law to destroy your family.
jump thanks for removing your own nasty comments.. at least we try things instead of trolling and postin nasty comments.. so WHEN you make one I do hope you dont make the same mistakes.. we however choose to air our mistakes cuz aint noone perfect..
@LtRotten84 just the once... its called trial and error... ya see, not all places are the same,we live in one of the most wet areas of the country which mean it is common to get 6 or more inches per rain.. therefore it requires seeing what works and doesnt..
that was great! I love how you made use of store bags! And that is a great way to practice making a multimedium structure! It exposes you to many different kinds of processes and meterials. Fantastic!
Thats great, thanks so much for posting. I think its great that you have shown the before and after and also told us about what went wrong in the comments as it really helps people that want to do this type of thing moreso than a video of a perfectly formed structure. Thanks again!
thanks Z... they are kind of fun to build.. some things work well n others dont work quite so well..but its all an experience and worth it.. this weekend we are buildin a goat shed from earth bags
not as steady as we would like it too... but it still needs more dirt thrown on the top. summer months 55 or so .. winter if below 15 or so outside things freeze so we have to be watchful of it..
@vanboarder ummmmmm ever dug with a shovel n pick into the side of a mtn full of limestone while working full time and having 2 acres of gardens and family to tend to?
Have had to dig through clay, but the work I had to looks light compared what you guys did. I enjoyed your video & the place looks great! Kudos to your family's efforts.
@fstwrtr so how many root cellar have you my friend dug out and made out of earth bags when you have no experience working with earthbags? how often is everything you do PERFECT? It works , it was our experience, we learned from it and we posted it to show others our experience from it and our mistakes... if you dislike it so much and what we do bothers you so much go the hell away..
wasnt a waste, it was a learning experience.. one can only read and learn so much ..EVERY book out there is just someone elses experience, yours WILL be different, there are simply too many variables in things to simply refer to a book and have it work out just for you ..
I would love to build a root cellar..you mentioned issues the first winter you used it..what were they..could you explain with some details so we don't make the same mistakes?
the front fell off,, no really.. when we cobbed it it was not the proper consistency for our climate,,(humid n wet) we had to add some concrete to the mix.. when stacking the earth bags get them as straight as possible all the way up ,,bulges and lumps make it very difficult to cob over
That....was a LOT of earth moving done by hand.....impressive

Thank you for showing us how you build your root cellar. I like how it cost you next to nothing and you reused the chicken incubator that is awesome.
