  • hey ben, where did you get that false bottom?

  • I love the easy method. I only brew 3 gallon batches so your method is perfect for me.

  • @shewearsfunnyhat

Well, you should check out the three gallon all grain kits that Ben's Homebrew now sells. You can check them out here on the website.

  • what temperature is your sparging water at?

  • Great way to get into alll grain! When you added your mash water did you heat it up a bit higher than your desired mash temp? I suppose the grain would cause it to drop so just wanted to know how much to compensate. Do you add much more water to make up for what's absorbed by the grain? Thanks for the vid...hope it turned out well

  • Good video and good attitude.

  • Can any all-grain recipe be adapted to smaller counter-top recipes, or are there any tricks for smaller batches? Will I need to add any DME?

  • @TheAmericaninexile

All all-grain recipes can be down sized. I'd suggest having at least 1 lb dme on hand for all all-grain batches.

  • i checked the gravity on the batch and it was right at 1.0

  • i only ended up with 2 1/2 gallons of wort do I need to sparge more water?

  • @XXMetalfishXX

You can, just make sure the gravity of the run off doesn't go below 1.010.

  • ok that make sense thanks for the help!

  • so 6.25 gallons for 5 lbs. So I'll need 13 gallons of water total. My mash ton is only 5 gallons.

  • @XXMetalfishXX

No. 1.25 qts per lb. So that would mean 5*1.25 = 6.25 qts. Divide this by 4 (because there are 4 qts per gallon) and you would get 1.56 gallons of water, or, a little more than 1.5 gallons of water for your mash and you would use 1.5 gallons for your sparge as well. Let me know if you have more questions. I hope this helps.

  • how much water do i need for the mash and sparge

  • @XXMetalfishXX

Usually 1.25 qts per lb of grains. You'll use the same amount of water that you used for Mashing for sparging, too. I usually just eyeball it anymore.

  • Nice to see that i am not the only dad that lets his little one brew with him.
