  • If one of my family members wasn't breathing, this is how I would want the FD to drive. Enough said.

  • Its amazing these people actaully got out of his way!!!

  • great video! i'm a cadet and havent been out on a not breathing call yet, though i'm sure i will be one day though lol. keep up the great work guys!

  • great response video dude.

  • so wat was the outcome?

  • wtf is that cartoon

  • I'm glad you guys used the Q liberally. When it comes to running anything priourity one (or code 3, depending on your first due's definition!), it's good to keep the public on alert and notified that you're coming. EVOC definately rules. :)

  • had this same kind of call 5 days ago

  • In my area it is routine that a fire truck and ambulance responed to the same call. Fire trucks are faster and get there faster then the ambulances.

  • hi there,, im from the UK. Just wondered why u sent out fire trucks to medical calls?? is it because you closer to where the call is and therefore quicker (cos it looks like your really moving!!)??? It happens rarely in our country, we always send out ambulances,, but only fire engines if they are like 3 minutes away and quicker than an ambulance :L

  • @fattyabbo In our county area if a fire engine is closer than the nearest ambulance then they get sent. If it's what is deamed an Advanced Life support call, in this case a person who stopped breathing, then it's sent to assit the Paramedic unit that's going to the call.

  • @tomlillie317 Yes, most of our fire fighters are trained medical responers too. It's just so they can all work together to get to you fast!

  • @tomlillie317 Yes, most of our fire fighters are trained medical responders too. It's just so they can all work together to get to you fast!

  • @tomlillie317 in virginia and at my station we send a engine and a medic for not breathing or ca or and other major call the engine is like a blocker truck just so that the medic gets there safely

  • @fattyabbo In Nothern Europe and North America, Fire Engines respond to Medicals on a daily basis. In some of the departments the medical runs take 80 percent of the engines day.

In most cases the Engine is equipped in the same way as the ambulance, minus the capacity to transport the patient, so why not use an engine to treat, thus requiring an ambulance only at the transport? Also, some engines have ALS gear, while ambo only has BLS. In these said countries, FFs are trained to medicine.

  • @fattyabbo So, the engine, or aerial truck or heavy rescue, can be considered as an medical resoursce, either BLS or ALS. It can provide a resource to the scene of an injury or illness in the same way an ambulace can. The firefighers spend half of their time in the ambulance anyway, so why waste their skill while in the red truck? And, since ambulances usually drive all the time, and trucks do not, they ease the burden of the ambulances quite a fair deal. Many places have 80-90% medical calls.

  • @fattyabbo Its different for every State. Here in California, Fire Fighters are trained Paramedics, so they will always be called out even when theres not a fire and will usually arrive before or with the Ambulance.

  • @fattyabbo in my area for medical calls fire gets paged out for medical calls if there closer or its bad & medics need help

  • @fattyabbo In large counties like mine, multiple stations will respond to one call just because of traffic. It may take our closest engine longer to get to our house that the furthest just because of traffic. In my neighborhood, we have 3 pd's and 3 fd's/ems that will respond. Usually fd will always respond with ems around here, Or a POV will respond.

  • @fattyabbo also fire men are trained to be paramedics to i believe. they have medical equipment onboard

  • @fattyabbo Im from Michigan, and we Send the FD on all Medical Calls. We do this to reduce the response time.It varies depending on where you go. Even in my county its a little different. In the bottom half of the county our police have an E unit which is a paramedic unit that goes with ambulance instead of FD. In my department. we have a rescue fire truck that responds to all Priority 1 and 2 calls with the ambulance for assistance. Better service to community and more man power.

  • @fattyabbo In U.S. Westcoast, it's regularly practiced that first ALS on scene is often fire crews, considering every communities will have a fire house, but not necessary an ambulance, the ambulance may responding from far away, up to 1-2 hours if the area is extreme rural. In this case, the ambulance arrived before fire crews which is quite uncommon.

  • @fattyabbo i'm a paramedic in the southen US and i think i might have some insight for your question. in the US, fire responds to all medical calls. most firemen are trained emt-basics, meaning they can initiate cpr, assist ventillations via bag-valve mask, shock via aed, provide O2, spinally immobilize, (etc.) when indicated. There are more fire engines covering any given area, that i know of, than ambulances. they can initiate basic (and sometimes critical) treatment until paramedics arrive.

  • @fattyabbo Bro, go back to school, i learned this in the 7th grade, gosh man

  • @fattyabbo Down here in South Florida, most "fire trucks" are ALS units equipped with Firefighter Paramedics. The emergency "ambulances" are called Rescues and belong to the Fire Rescue Departments, and are also staffed with Firefighter Paramedics, and are equipped with ALS gear, fire gear, scba, extrication tools, and fire hose/appliances. Hope I helped clear it up a little lol

  • @fattyabbo It all depends on where you are. In Los Angeles, A fire truck or Fire engine is sent on almost every medical call, with an ambulance. This is because off Firefighters are EMTs (Emergency Medical Techs). Rarely do you see an ambulance without a Fire engine with it.

  • was this an ambulance or what?

  • @creamyfilling102 It's our primary engine for the station we were responding from. It's a 2000 E-one Cyclone II

  • @creamyfilling102 youcyou cant tell its an engine, you might want to let this to the professionals, the shadow of the engine says it all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is OWL isnt it lol. I am in Fairfax.

  • @lawnboy1010 It's actually Dumfries-Triangle, comming from our station on route 1 in triangle.

  • @tomlillie317 - It seemed like an area OWL covers. Nice dude, Stay Safe out there

  • @lawnboy1010 ha holy shit me too how the fuck did I find this

  • @lawnboy1010 fairfax virginia?

  • @MrDyson01 - Yep.

  • Powercall.

  • Sounds weird, Have any ambulances ridden stars to the hospital?

  • Ew, gross siren at 0:50

    What is it?

  • Good response!! i dont see anything wrong. the driver( which btw can see alot more then we can) slowed down enough and could see it was safe to go through..

  • because the light turned green

  • I dunno, if a member of my family wasnt breathing, I would be cool with them running the red lights fast, if they felt safe doing so. So how can I not be cool with it, just because it's somebody elses emergency? after 5 minutes, theres really not much to save after that. So a minute or two can make a huge difference. :-)

  • NO matter what city or state your in, you have to stop for red signal, then you can procede if safe. I made the almost fatal mistake once for blowing a light with just my overheads on, if it wasnt for my evasive move, I would have be T-boned. After I thought about it , I said why, would it have been worth it ? Gotta think. Unless its a brother officer needing help, its almost not worth driving nuts to get there, your no good, if you dont make it there remember.

  • watch the driver at 1:28

  • we don't have to stop we just have to be sure the intersection is clear. Sometimes that takes a full stop sometimes it doesn't

  • i did like how u blew through that intersection at 40 ish lol

  • i really thought for about 30 seconds that some one else really knew how to go code in an engine....gotta kill the electronic siren

that makes me wonder if ur engine is pink? purple or even yellow or white damn

  • Turned the electronic on as a hint to the officer to use the powercall instead. I hate that electronic too....

  • sry dude but the only siren that should be used on an engine is a growler

power call is annoying also lol

  • @FireFighterrock24 yellow is a good color for rigs.

  • The area which i live in states that all emergency personnel have the right away in any intersection no matter what color the light is.I guess all counties are different but oh well. Oh and for all you bashers out there, how about you get hurt and call 911 and then we will take our sweet ass time gettin to your location making sure we stop at every damn red light.

  • LOL old person home!

  • I have to agree that a little more care could have been used at some points in this video, but I also have some understanding because of the nature of the call. Overall nothing to get upset about like some people are.

  • The first one was clearly yellow upon entering the intersection. Not really blowing the light.

  • Listen, look, then react to the situation. All emergency personnel must do this. All other vehicles on the road must pull over regardless your position on the road to the right side.

  • Love that powercall mixed w. q

  • Is that a Whelen 295sla1 or 295sl100??

  • the call must have been way far out

  • is that in Hudson New York?

  • nope, woodbridge virginia. About 30 miles outside of Washington d.c.

  • Haha, I work in Ft Worth, Tx, if we left the doors on our box open when we were in on a call, wed come back to find our ambulance missing. Thats funny, good to see there are some decent places left

  • It's happen up in alexandria virginia, about 20-25 miles away. A private ambulance company had a unit taken by a mentaly unstable person who "Just needed a ride to church"

  • Go fuck yourself. Enough said. This was a perfect response. Not sure what video you are watching.

  • Very professional

  • What did this driver do wrong? I am sure when he blew the lights he could see traffic was stopped. He could see very much more than what you can see in the video.. I thought the driver did everything perfectly

  • on a fire truck, police, ambluance vechicles they have stobe lights to tell the light signals to turn green and the side liughts turn red so they can go thu. go fuck urself

  • And very few departments actually have these systems.

  • @haloist1 - may i ask WTF your smoking? iv been on alot of calls where we come to an intersection and the lights stayed red, and our trucks are only 3-4 years old. Did we forget to ask about this special light signal package? DUMBASS!! dont comment on shit you dont know about

  • Not enough said... its dumb comments from people like you who aren't firefighters that make us want to run reds even more! As you can CLEARLY see... all people have stopped knowing a Truck was coming through... ALL FIRE DEPARTMENTS HAVE THE RIGHT AWAY AT RED LIGHTS... GRANTED THEY HAVE TO CHECK THE INTERSECTION BEFORE BLOWING ONE... BUT ALL DEPARTMENTS HAVE THE RIGHT AWAY AT A RED LIGHT WHEN RESPONDING CODE 3...

  • Go look up the Highway Traffic Act and you will see that we (and I say we because I make my living as a professional firefighter) only have a conditional right of way on a red. The driver will still be at fault if he becomes involved in an accident while crossing an intersection on a red light. Maybe the camera doesn't show the big picture.

  • schinks333 is correct, it's only a conditional right of way on a red and if you're involved in an accident when you have the red then you will get a ticket and probably a lawsuit as well out here. At the intersection with the red light you can see about a good 1/4 mile to the right, which is the problem direction for that intersection, and everyone was stopped.

  • @tomlillie317 in louisiana we have to stop at a red light with due regard

  • I'm not hammering your statement but there are an ever increasing amount of ff's around the USA that can contest this after being charged with serious offences regarding MVC's at intersections.

  • @CCFRPUMPER111 hell all the codes

  • @CCFRPUMPER111

I dont know what state you are from but in Texas we dont. If people dont want to yeild at an intersection we dont have the "right away". The driver of the apparatus could face criminal charges if they cause an accident.

  • I totally agree with the driver of the ambulance, as a first responder were going to call's that take's an ambulance 15 mins to get on scene if one in our county is avaiable. You gotta haul ass to get to a call especially one that's not breathing becuase of brain death exactly what he said. Nice response hopefully you were en scene in time.

  • I agree who ever is driving is an absolute idiot!!!!, they only slowed down a little at intersections because there where cars in front of them.....Dont forget you cant help someone if you dont make it there

  • How fast, if your a driver, would you go to the far end of your first due for someone not breathing? And refresh my memory but the last time I checked brain death starts to occur at the 5 minute mark last I checked. Oh yeah thats how long it took us to get there and, if you look at the end of the video, for the medic to gain access to the locked doors. Please see my responce to the post by firelawems.

  • You wouldn't be saying that if it were you or a relative that stopped breathing ;)

  • Um, only one red light "blown" after slowing way down to make sure every vehicle was stopped and watching us. Volunteer company with a crew of Usmc Crash fire rescue as driver, Washington Dc firefighter as officer and two Arlington firefighters in back as firefighters. I'll take it that the rookie part is intended for the driver who at the time of this video was the most "inexperenced" on the crew with 7 years (9 years now) in the fire service. And the responding comments are basic Evoc stuff

  • Yes, it does have have a unique sound.

But it is not heard as well as the more gradual frequency rise and fall of Wail.

Why even have it at all when you have the Q - the best siren ever made?

  • Thank you for making such good time getting there. But now, why? Ambulance is already on scene! 3:52, seemed too fast, but you probably had good view and could see there was no traffic. Was nice when you did not rev siren when not needed. Powecall is a worthless POS. Can't hear it with the Q sounding. Be careful about horn only. Some people are deaf at speciic frequencies and may not hear it. Nice, steady video. Nice area.
  • very good"très bien!

  • No doubt the best response ive ever seen so far!

  • very good driving love this video

  • good response time fellars!!!

  • HEY EVERYONE kgcwhazup IS A POSER...he never was a FF/EMT for 20 years so son't listen to him he doesn't know what he is talking about...

  • another thing that happens over here is that if an army/navy/airforce base ambulance is closer and available they will respond first

  • We have to ask if they're available for mutual aid to come off base (Quantico marine corps base) and if so then they're dispatched. Had to do that 2 weeks ago for a shooting since they were the closest medic unit.

  • and if ya think about it, throw a few marines on board for the shooting call :D. dont gutta worry about anyone else with guns.

  • in uk we have rapid response paramedics in cars and on bikes, who go on ahead with the main ambulance following behind, so that treatment is started as soon as possible, once the person is on the ambulance on way to A&E the paramedic clears for the next job

  • Sometimes in our county they do that but it's rare. Other more rural counties they may have a medic use a chase vehicle like you're saying and meet the ambulance at the scene or if it's that serious meet them while thier enroute to the hospital.

  • We have them in Loudoun. The western rural end of our county during the day has a career regional ALS provider who runs chase. At night a few volunteer ALS providers are available.

  • 16 million baby!

  • nice siren..where is this place?

  • dumfries virginia

  • that's cool, i live in indiana and our fire truck siren is different than your, but i like yours better

  • People need to quit bitchin. Nice driving, how big is ur station?

  • If you click on my name, or enter station 3 fire you can see the station we were responding from, our primary station.

  • And how fast, if your a driver, would you go to the far end of your first due for someone not breathing? Oh yeah, only one red light eaten and that was after we slowed to make sure everyone was stopped. Keep in mind that all the lights that we went flying through were traffic controled and were green in our direction. And yes I'm well aware of how long it takes to stop a engine going the speed we were going, about 500-600 ft roughly. Anything else? Oh and veary childish calling someone douche

  • Hey, all you have to do next time mnlhermance isn't breathing, just remember that a routine response should do just fine.

  • I will pose the same question to you. How fast, if you were/are a driver, would you go to the far end of your first due for someone not breathing? Oh yeah the caller was refuseing cpr instructions and wasn't starting cpr efforts either. Oh yeah like I posted earlier only one red light was eaten and that was after we slowed to make sure that everyone was stopped.

  • I'll pose this question to you, What "reckless acts" where there in the video? Were we going fast, yep, reckless driving weaving in and out of lanes and traffic pushing people through intersections and blowing red lights without slowing down, nope.

  • correct me if im wrong but i dont believe i wrote the phrase "reckless acts" anywhere...

  • To take your commment as it was intended it means, we were going to fast to the call and need to slow down. But lets say we slowed all the way down at each light, about 30 seconds per light lost time with getting back up to speed at least we'll say, that would mean that the run would've taken about 8 1/2 mins not 5. And lets not count that for the 20-25 intersections inbetween the station and there or else you wouldn't arrive for 15 to 17 1/2 mins for someone not breathing.

  • You, my friend, are in dire need of a physics class, as well as some EVOC, and general common sence. Good luck with all of that.

  • You still haven't answered my question that I posed as to what your intended meaning was so I'll give you another chance. "It does not matter what you are going there for if you dont get there in one piece." To refresh your memory, oh and how long does it take brain death to start in someone not breahing oh yeah that's right 5 mins the exact time it took us to get there and the medics to gain entry into the building if you look at the end of the video.

  • All of you folks here who are complaining about the way the driver was driving, REGARDLESS of how they were driving, they are an EMERGENCY VEHICLE. When they have their lights and sirens going, it means pull over to the right and get the hell out of their way. I am astounded at the amount of arguing and whatnot in these comments in regards to what this video shows. I'm sure that if this person who wasn't breathing was a loved one of yours, you sure as hell wouldn't be on here talking trash!

  • exactly

  • Slow down? Why don't you just do the rest of us a favor and shut your cakehole?! They were inside whats called an EMERGENCY VEHICLE, with their emergency lights and sirens going (as you can obviously tell), so that means that they aren't out running around for the hell of it, it means that they are on a run, and it means pull over to the right and stop. Maybe you need to go to the library and read up on this. By the sounds of things, it may do you some good.

  • I'll play devil's advocate. Conditions were mostly okay for the speed. However, Lights and sirens often don't get the attention of drivers. I personally would never run a red light like that at this time of day. God forbid if I did and some idiot came off the cross street and I hit him; I'd be 100% liable in Virginia. But the camera only shows us a small slice of the view, and I'm certain the driver felt comfortable enough to be driving like he did. Good video nonetheless.

  • He's driving fine. Maybe you'd be suspended because no one likes you.

  • Damn Nice Responce. Didn't know you had power call on that truck...

  • It was to bad that you guys did not get their faster!! Did the person die when they were on route to the hospital or at the hospital?

  • They were Dead prior to anyones' arrival. It was an obvious doa and cpr wasn't done.

  • Okay I see what you mean!

Is that the only truck that you have at the hall that you shot this video from?

  • they are lucky to run every red light. where is this located?

  • Were you able to recue the person?

  • Nope, they were an obvious DOA.

  • thx ;-)

  • Lookin at your website.... That H-1 Brush truck is awesome!!

  • yes, route 1 comming from dumfries going to "south woodbridge"

  • what is that wooping noise i hear?

  • It's a powercall siren. I would much rather use that than the standard electronic siren.

  • im not talking about the siren. im talking about somthing in the cab.

  • I had the electronic siren on for a few seconds before the officer got the hint and put the powercall on

  • just wondering did they live cus we dont get alot of calls were they live after stoping breathing

  • Nope, they were DOA

  • ahh shit that fuckin sucks:(!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Outstanding!!!!! Nice video!!!

  • It depends on the area, if you go to freewebs dot com/engine502, they have a map of our county with each stations area our station is 3fire and 17 fire as well. we were comming from 3fire for this call

  • How much area does one station cover? I am a volunteer at a combi department but there would be no way that we could reach the 5 minute response time that our department has in place. Excellent driving, luckily we don't have as much area per station.

  • are you serious? my staiton trys to be there while there still on the phone with 911 we uslu get there in about 2 min tho

but were are kinda a small town just 30000 when i say that im campring to tronto new york ect,ect wat im getting at we have 16 satitons each with 3 trucks 2 have ladders

  • Lets be realistic is it fast yes, a little to fast maybe at the lights but you know what our job is dangerous, its part of the job. The only bad thing i saw about the whole thing was that you didnt leave atleast an electric siren on. That poercall should have been on from start to finish. Overall well handled sir!

  • i could tell by the shadow of the mirrors, only e-one has em like that.

  • e-one i take it?

  • yep. go to dumfriesfire dot com and go to appratus. we were in wagon 503 for this call

  • Gotta love Saskatchewan. Here, any emergency vehicle displaying lights, sirens, or combo must be yielded to, 500$ fine if you dont, doesn't matter the cricumstances. They can run a red and get hit and it's the other drivers fault, no matter what. They get undue care and attention, and failure to yield tickets.

  • I'm afraid that's how it is supposed to work, but it rarely does, anywhere. And, it may be worded so you have the right of way in an intersection, but if you get hit, you can count on being screwed over.

  • all i got to say to all of you guys posting this videos on youtube is thanks i enjoy watching them

  • Nice response. Is this a paid or volunteer department?

  • Combination. Career staff, in most stations, from 6am-6pm monday to friday. A few stations have 24hr staffing as well as about 8 career medic units. Vollies cover at night, weekends, and federal hollidays. We can staff with career or staff another unit. Any other questions feel free to send a message.

  • Ok, that's in evoc and the basic traffic laws. The point being what, there was only one light eaten and that was only after slowing down to make sure that everyone was stopped.

  • Fast driving again!!!

  • It was the fire service wide 1 in a million shot, everyone moving to the right for you while your responding.......................

  • Good job on the sirens. I wish more departments were as professional as you guys. Too many departments think that people will move out of the way twice as fast if you sound like two vehicles (Q and electronic siren on WAIL). Powercall was used only when needed, Q otherwise. Excellent!! My brother just retired from the Fire Dept. in neighboring Fairfax County.

  • Not twice as fast, but they will be more inclined to get out of your way and let you pass the more you annoy them....

  • lol

  • i didnt mean to bash you guys you do a great job as i have seen your other videos. and i know that in less populated areas there is a longer first due

  • that's fine. I'm one of the faster drivers, there are some with us that are alot slower.

  • That is the extreme far end of our 1st due. Another station is slated to open about 3/4 of the way there in the next year or so.

  • cause it took 5 mins for the cfr engine to get there lol

  • cool video, love it, hope the person was ok

  • The person, come to find out, was Dead On our Arrival
