They actually used the spinnaker halyard, as the jib is tightly furled along the forestay, therefore the jib is probably using the jib halyard; the spinnaker halyard, or the spare jib halyard ;)
Fantastic footage of the J-111 off the wind in a breeze!
I do however have a couple of questions...1) I would be very interested to see any footage of the boat going to weather in these conditions and 2) is this J-111 hull # 2, the same boat that raced in the Chicago - Michigan City race in Sept? Sail number matches; think the boat's name is IMPULSE. Thanks again for the great clip! looking forward to your response.
Thanks for the clarificaiton on the sail numbers and hull numbers. Also noticed she was flying both masthead (standard) and fractional kites. Is the fractonal kite rigging a factory (Hall Spars/J-Boats) option?
Correction yes they used the jib halyard. I checked the still photos, the 110 sq.mt sail was set on the jib halyard, on a run you can do this and the sail still looks good and you stay on your feet. Same sail sort of scandalized to maintain control. Not a new idea downeast
How do you jibe with that thing hooked up like that?

Where's the staysail? Why is nobody hiking or clustered aft? I bet you could get some better numbers than that.

@29erhardtail
someone else mentioned that too. Must be a funny angle. We only used the 110 sq.mt chute that day it is a masthead sail only.
