  • Jeffrey seems to be just another guy who likes to talk out of his ass. The only problem in transgenic crops imo is the numerous patents surrounding it and the monopoly it creates. Effectively disabling small exploitations especially in third world countries.

  • I can't find words to describe how much your intro music puts me off your vids - its the equivalent of scratching glass with my teeth, shattered so that their dangling jangling nerve endings are in constant contact - sorry.....I like your vids

  • Conjecture: The more a person moves their hands while they're conveying an argument meant to persuade others, the more likely their arguments are bullshit -_0

  • no more genetic modification??? does this mean no more selective breeding by farmers?

  • @kitrana No that still goes on, but its not as surefire a way to get the traits you want, and it may take longer than a genetic modification. However, if you had to wait the average 10 years for FDA approval, plus however many years for subsequent safety and risk assessments before submission to the FDA for approval, just for commercial farming, until then, you'd really only have selective breeding, just like if you couldn't afford transgenic seeds or didn't have access to them.

  • @EvoGenVideos was being half sarcastic there. the guy wanted all genetic modification stopped but apparently doesnt realize that very little of the food stock of humans is natural anymore.

  • @kitrana Oh, sorry. :)

When it comes to this particular subject, its sometimes hard to tell who's being sarcastic and who isn't.

  • Willful ignorance comes to mind. Also, willful misinformation to appeal to authority(which he doesn't have in the first place). He(Smith) is lying to his readers for what reason?? Hmmmmm. To anyone who has a high school level understanding of genetic engineering, he comes across as a moron. This fear mongering is not going to help the progress of ag GMO development. To make it worth while, we need smart consumers, not consumers who have been lied to.

  • Really well explained!

  • great evo gen this is going to be a good series really dislike gmo fear mongers because its really easy to scare people about there food.

  • His claims are actually referring to processes and eventualities that you have not directly addressed. I've read his first book and I guess you still have not actually read any of his stuff. It would be better if you could actually refute his position and claims. Good luck on that, if you have the time it takes.

  • @BlowDevilUp Okay. So, name these "eventualities" or "processes" that he mentions in the parts of the video that I used. Or are you aware that this is just a part 1, and there's a lot more of his video that I'm going to address? Or is this just some parrotted talking point that you've regurgitated?

  • @EvoGenVideos Which video are these clips taken from? I can vaguely remember that his channel is some variation on his name. Where is this source material located? Could you link me to it here or in the description section? But still, you should ask yourself is a brief review in the most cursory of ways the basis for a proper refutation. I can't imagine how it could be, but maybe you have a reason.

  • @BlowDevilUp Its a popular of his. Search YouTube for his name, and it should come up. However, I only used clips from the first few minute or so of his video. I'm going to address the rest of claims within it, hence why this is just part 1, so I don't know where you're getting that this is just a "brief review in the most cursory of ways" or that this was all I was interested in refuting, or why you need the whole video to figure out why I only used the first minute or so.

  • @EvoGenVideos The basis for your material must be his material, since you're refuting his side. You've only briefly acquainted yourself with his stuff. You've seen this one video right? That's not sufficient to slam his argument, nor to insult his character.

I'm still looking for that video of Smith's, I'll let you know if I can dig it up somewhere. Sometimes people will link back to what their response is from. Or you could just tell me what he said and I won't have to review it at all, J/K.

  • @BlowDevilUp "The basis for your material must be his material, since you're refuting his side."

Yup. His video. And at the moment, that's what I'm interested in refuting over a series of my own responses. I don't think I should have to read everything he's ever written to do that, and to expect that is ludicrous. And I'll insult his character if I want. He's unqualified to make the kind of statements that he does, and makes a number of false claims in the one video alone.

  • @EvoGenVideos You've got to consider legal charge of defamation. If you claim a bunch of stuff in an online forum like YT, where his lawyers will have access to your video material, he could easily make a case against you for slander or defamation. As an adult you can be held accountable by US law. He has a group of supporters behind him, with resources. I think you're playing with fire if what you are saying is unjustly slanderous or false. Especially if you knew it was false from your courses.

  • @BlowDevilUp "Especially if you knew it was false from your courses"

Okay. First of all, there's no crime against saying someone doesn't know what they're talking about or levelling insults. That isn't slander or libel, and if he so much as tried to sue me, the lawyer wouldn't take it because he doesn't have a case. If his reputation is ruined because of my video responses to him, he should have known better than to take his misinformed propaganda to the internet.

  • @BlowDevilUp "Especially if you knew it was false from your courses" (part 2)

Nothing in my courses would do anything to prove him right, or absolve him of academic responsibility. You otherwise can't make the argument that a propaganda-mongering author/film maker is above scientific criticism from or knows more than the people who are learning or working in that field of research.

  • @EvoGenVideos Those are good points I hadn’t really looked at it from your viewpoint as closely as you obviously have. I think it is amazing how you are able to make those kinds of determinations having only seen the one video of his. Oh, BTW I found a whole long list of his stuff on video and still was unable to locate the video you are responding to. Be so kind as to link it or upload it or something. How do you expect me to find it otherwise?

Like you say it probably isn't slander.

  • @BlowDevilUp Look. Dude. Do you actually have a point, or are you that fixated on whether you can find the video? Or were you just going to troll for Jeff? Because unless the answer to the first question is that point, we're done here.

  • @ArsenicCigarettes Lol, thanks.

  • Well, from what I've heard, if you knew what went into making a hot dog, you wouldn't want to have another one. So, I'm wondering whether ignorance is bliss or a curse as far as this subject goes. : /

  • @jcrebel18 I'm not sure if I agree. I just don't eat hot dogs because they tear my stomach apart. But, McDonald's uses cow eyes in the filler of the meat (I used work there a while back), but that doesn't keep me from eating there. High blood pressure does. :P And you kind of get used to the feeling of something watching you while you eat.

  • @EvoGenVideos

    Eh, good point. ;)

  • Thanks for your videos; I'm studying genetics (well, the basic, simplified version you get in high school science classes) right now and getting some extra information from videos like yours is really helpful and interesting.

The analogy with the magazines is a pretty good one, I think it could help quite a few people to grasp the concept of what DNA is.
