The US wouldn't give Hammon a fair shot (which is a joke), so she decided to pursue her dreams elsewhere. If your own country tells you 'We don't want you', why not? She's followed the rules--I support her decision to play for Russia, but will still cheer Team USA in Beijing. It would be weird, however, if it came down to USA-Russia for the gold.

This isn't that unusual. The Greek Baseball Team for Athens '04 was made up entirely of Greek diaspora. Very few of the players had Greek surnames. Some of them only had a Greek great grandparent. Does Becky have any Russian in her background?
