Daniel Bongard, a brilliant engineer! I own vehicles with open diffs, the LX470 with traction control and my HZJ79 with arb lockers - the arb lockers are the best for sure. The traction control on the LX470 does work very well. I've used detroit and lunch box lockers - not so good in my opinion.
@theraptor350 yeah, you can go buy a run down jeep for 500-1000 bucks, put 3-5k in it and you got yourself a better off road capable jeep than any of these 50k+ vehicles.
If I had Traction Control, Detroit TrueTrac's or Torsen's would be better and cheaper in my opinion.
And cost more than half as much.
The Hummer H1 uses that same system. Sometimes with limited slips you get wheel spin without enough drag to bump the other side. You hear guys talk a lot about bumping the brakes so it catches the spinning wheel & diverts the power to make it hump. A traction control set-up would do this faster & to the spinning wheel(s) only. Very cheap & on-road friendly to.
Thats crap, the white prado took it a bit quicker, and didn't back off! where as the e.t.c prado, he backed off!! lockers are terrific things, i have them, but they do not get the brakes hot, and they are better than lockers in normal circumstances, because you don't have to turn them on and off, rocking back and forwards to release them, you also don't lose steering ability as you do with airlockers!!! experience not a hunch
Well first off I'm in the states(U.S.A) and I have an '08 Toyota Tacoma (Hilux) the front is IFS can you install a ARB Locker to a IFS??? or will I have to only a locker for the rear end???
It is certainly possible to fit Air Lockers to a traction control equipped Prado. Lockers don't effect the vehicle's braking. You'll just find that the traction control won't come on anywhere near as much, as the lockers will eliminate side to side wheel spin

We try and mount the air compressor high up in the engine bay or even inside the vehicle to prevent water ingestion. It is possible to remount the air intake/filter to an even higher location if you wish though
lol they use toyotas to demo the advantage of lockers....funny when its well known with in the industry and sport that toyota LSD may as well not even be installed after they have done 4,000 kays on the road....once again good products you guys make but this stuff is a laugh
This was an independent test conducted by Australian 4WD Action Magazine. The journalist who conducted the test is no longer with the publication, but he is renowned for being extremely thorough, so we expect that the tyres would have been running similar pressures.

i believe you can get an arb locker for an ifs. on 4wdmonthly, there is a fella with a white mitsubishi pajero aka montero sport with a locked ifs.

he said the last car with the lockers was in low range, but were the first 2 ? Locker or not, low range will make a BIG difference.
