I consider street fighter, tekken, soul calibur etc, to be a fighting game.
Smash bros. is more of a platforming strategy battle game.
The technical aspects are profoundly different in the genres, so its not fair to say one is better than the other. Its a matter of personal preference. Both genres do have commendably dynamic aspects to their game play.
The raging demon is pretty much a move that strikes the enemy 1000 times in one second. Watch a trailer for Akuma in Street Fighter 4 and you'll see what I mean.
What the fuck is wrong with you idiots commenting about smash brothers? This is a Street Fighter video so stop spewing that stupid smash brothers crap here.
Street Fighter (post SF2) was designed to be a competitive fighter. Smash 64 and Melee weren't (and Brawl was made to be anti-competitive). But again the fact is despite the intents of the developers, the Smash series are a very competitive set of games.
Is it more competitive then SF? That's opionated, though technically, Smash boasts the 2nd largest competitive game community (2nd to Halo) and THE largest fighting game community.
Smash without items=/=Street Fighter or any other traditional fighter. And random item drops are not "fun" for everyone. Alot of people hate items HATE items and enjoy switching them off.
Though their is a competitive Item scene for those who want it, most competitive Smashers hate items...
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Items are a core part of the super smash bros experience, and no I'm not trolling. I loved melee and the first one. Own them both too. I just don't think there in the leagues of actual arcade fighters. Think what you like though
Again, if they were really a core part of Smash (or were intended to be), their would be no option to turn them off. The simple fact is Smash is fun with or without items.
But believe what you want about Smash vs. traditional fighters. Just remember their is no FACTUAL answer to which is more competitive (that's all opionated).
Fanbase size IS irrelevent. My apologies. But flourishing tourney scenes is relevent.
It doesn't matter how much you believe Smash isn't a real fighter. That's all opinion and shouldn't be debated. The fact is, Smash has the largest tourney scene. You can't deny that.
Shall we continue to spam up this Street Fighter vid?
I love Brawl and believe it can be skillful, but making Street Fighter even slightly different to the original formula is a punch in the face for it's fans. The fans buy street fighter to play street fighter, not smash bros.
No, you're right (although i get the sense you're being sarcastic). I forgot that Gen actually survived that move before. And I know Capcom likes to retcon their story line so it makes sense.
From what I recall, this was how it was explained, but Gen was able to drain his spirit before Akuma attacked him with the "raging demon" so he was able to survive. I'm assuming if Gen knew how to do this Gouken did too.
Maybe not a ripoff but a boost in fighter controlled games. I'm saying dodging and blocking has never been as fun as Smash. I could just imagine controlling Ryu with Smash Attacks, and then unleashing his Shinku by the brake of a Smash Ball. His Shoriuken would be ↑b, and his spin kick would be down ↓b, like luigis tornado and what not...I must snap out of it!!

I'm talking about the way you control the game, it would be FUNNER, EASIER, and this new instalment will be in 3D as well. It would only make it a better game, funner too if switched to the Smash CONTROL scheme, the BRAWL control mechanism, not past FAILURES...bet you its gonna happen in the future. Love how you can hear Akumas beeds tapping.
If you mean MORE FUN and easier, that's a matter of opinion and the past years of SF love in the arcades speaks for itself when you say that it'll be easier and "funner". SF4 is 2D with 3D cell shaded graphics so it has 3D elements but, it will still be side combat. It'll still be traditional SF gameplay that's why it's still played to this day. Brawl controls are nice, but that's BRAWL. If they put that for SF, not only will it not be the SF ppl LOVE playing, but it'll be a rip off to Brawl -_-
Dude, that is just wrong. First off, Brawl is terrible. Fun, but not as amazing as Melee. Melee takes more skill due to the slight lag. 2nd of all: Street Fighter is Street Fighter. That change will NEVER happen. Say that for KoF, the you should just gtfo. Those 2 side combat fighting games are legendary in their own right, and each require its own challenging skill to play. Playing the upcoming SF4 or KOF12 as if you're playing smash will just get you clobbered.
BRAWL IS TERRIBLE?? either you dont know how to play AT ALL or you took the wrong presciption drug. Brawl is awesome but you cant compare it to sf or kof because its not the same type of fighting game. TRUE meele was really good but i think brawl extended and built upon the awesomeness of melee therefore making it better.
Yeah, I hate to admit that Brawl is less competitive than melee. Mostly cause I tried to back it up for a solid 2 months and because Ness (my main) is better in Brawl than he is in Melee.

I don't thinkso Tim!...the King of all fighters is Brawl. You probably don't have it, or you wouldn't have said such an outdated remark. This game will be great though...and Smash Brothers Brawl is a side fighter as well, come on now!
Outdated? I've played Brawl many times and I never said that it was a horrible game which you probably thought. But compared to Street Fighter?! Are you kidding me?! Street Fighter has been the crown jewel of fighting games! It's probably the 1st fighting game people have ever played including me. You wanna know why the franchise has been able to dish out numerous games since 1987 AND STILL KICKIN ASS?! This is such a stupid argument.
Brawl's (not Smash, BRAWL) is a near joke of fighter. A depth-less, simple, and overly defensive game where spamming, projectiles, and 1/2 characters reign supreme.
It's a good game and many love it, but it's not a top-level fighter.
Street Fighter should have STREET FIGHTER controls. Smash controls work for Smash.
And what the hell with Smashballs? Are you a casual?
Yes...a horrible life. SF is known as the king of fighting games for a reason. There gameplay was always side to side fighting and it's been like that since. If they adopted the gameplay of a different game then everyone would hate it.
No people would HATE it and the past speaks for itself. When the EX games came out and SF tried to go into 3D the 1st time...people hated it. Then they tried to use real life people as the actual characters in the movie game like what Mortal Kombat did.....and now that game is probably known as one of the worst fighting game of all time.

ANYTHING can be competitive. And Smash (despite the intents of the developers) CAN be (and IS) a competitive fighting game. That's a fact.

Well obviously, there's no need to really clarify that. Let me explain, Super Smash Bros is not a competitive game up to the Street Fighter standard
