If god does exist, he sure likes to troll humanity by not showing up and ending these repetitive debates that really go nowhere. Direct evidence of god in this century would not only end debates but also help prove whichever religion to be true or prove them all false and in doing so save billions from whatever punishment that awaits, but faith doesn't really get anyone anywhere at the end of the day.
Oh, wait. He follows that up by saying that, at best, one is forced to remain agnostic on the subject because, he states, "We are debating a question for which there is not and cannot really be decisive empirical evidence."
Double-Hallelujah! We are witnessing an epiphany! Dinesh just realised that all his preceding statements were bullshit. Well done buddy, there's hope for you yet.
1:22 Hallelujah! Dinesh agrees that religions are man-made (even though he qualifies that statement somewhat, unsurprisingly). Great! That's the topic of the debate and you, D'Souza, have handed the victory to Dennett. So please shut the fuck up and sit the fuck down.
D'Souza cites Pascal's wager as an argument against agnosticism, not an argument for God's existence. Pascal's wager simply highlights the importance of one's decision with respect to belief in God. The wager is not, per se, an argument for God's existence and D'Souza makes this clear. Nonetheless, death is real and Pascal suggests that we think about the hereafter with the utmost seriousness.
Ugh, now he's really getting low, mentioning Pascal's Wager! For all those who haven't heard the rebuttal to that one yet:
This wager only works of you assume there's just two possibilities: 1: No God at all, 2: A god that's EXACTLY like the Christian God, and rewards you for blind faith. What if God sends all the atheists to heaven, and all the believers to hell, cause he loves science and hates blind faith? Or just for the heck of it? There are millions of other variations.
Were suppose to worry about whether or not there is really a Hogworts out there, where witches are in training? Maybe we should spend some time thinking up a defense against them. We have every reason to believing these are all made up ideas and no reason to assume there anything more than that.
It's true that we don't know that there isn't an afterlife. Dinesh gets this much right. We can't argue for / against something beyond the reality we know to exist. The same can be said for any invisible or imaginary or otherworldly concept.
Yeah, I mean the idea of someone coming back to life to prove the existence of an afterlife is just silly. It's a good job no one believes that.
If Christians are gonna tell me Jesus came back to life, OF COURSE we're gonna want empirical evidence. Is he nuts? Does he think then the safe bet is just to assume they were telling the truth?
I strongly feel Lulu and I agree that he makes me wanna shout, 'Oh come now'.
Your a fuckin idiot, you obviously don't know anything about history. Prove there was a civil war without taking someones word for it you fucking retarded little bitch!!!!!!!
Actually, there are plenty of reasons he wouldn't throw the mike, like the possibility of hitting someone with it. Dinesh seems to think that because he can make decisions, those decisions are not governed by anything. But they are. People do things because they have (what they believe to be) rational reasons to do so. Any other sort of decision making process would be arbitrary and random.

doesn't seem like this guy actually read any of Dennett's books... he doesn't know what he's talking about. "I would suggest..." *facepalm*

the Wager is fundamentally flawed in that there is no definite certainty in choosing the "right" religion.
It seems to be more of a coward's way out than anything else.

Dinesh really likes his straw men, and is a master of obfuscation.

Atleast this Dinesh can put forth a somewhat rational argument, unlike ID and those inane people.

Of course it does. God is the biggest mass murderer of all times - he puts Hitler to shame.
All creatures great and small,
the lord god drowned them all.

I'll bet against God's existence, because he didn't give me enough fucking evidence
btw- he accidentally spoke the truth @~9:40: "if you choose against God, you loose nothing"

this fuck needs to stop yelling.
His strategy seems to be to talk as fast as possible, to keep the slow talking Dennett from being able to answer to all of this bullshit

Wow, Pascal's Wager is the bottom of the barrel.

I would have really liked some rational arguments from him. The yelling just makes him hard to listen to.

Dinesh thinks that as long as he continues to talk... no matter what nonsense, and I mean non-sense he spouts... he is making a factual argument!
He only comes across as a brilliant mind bent on making excuses and bogus arguments for his irrational beliefs...
He did too much time in the debate club...

Dinesh sounds more like a preacher than any kind of debater. He turned this debate into Sunday mass.
