Are these kinds of guitar nylon strung as with a classical guitar? I've seen so many Reinhardt style players using them but I have never come across on for sale in a guitar shop. Maybe I would have to go to London or Birmingham. Does anyone have any information about this kind of Jazz guitar please?
This dvd makes me feel sick, Stochelo is so relaxed throughout the whole thing, I feel like he's taking the piss, you can see him joking at parts haha buy this dvd
Is that a pickup at the end of the fingerboard, or a bad fingerboard repair? Also the lower foot on the bridge is missing. Looking at Stochelo's technique, I wonder it perhaps the lower bridge foot got in his way and he removed it.
Stochelo, you are AWESOME...and a nice guy on top! And You are the best thing the Netherlands have had to offer since edam cheese (just joking!) Your tutorials help me a lot, and I will get your DVD! Thanks, mate! Do you plan to come to Australia? (I'm a Dutchman living in Oz))
The combination of long scale length with 10-45 or 11-46 strings are much easier to play in terms of string tension than most dreadnaughts with 12-56 bronze strings.
The strings most people use are not silk and steel they are steel core wrapped in copper and they are noticeably lower tension.
Can anyone offer any insight on how easy these guitars play? I play a les paul professionally but I've been flirting with the gypsy sound for a while. Non of my friends has a Selmer D or O type guitar so I was wondering if any of you guys could tell me how harder or softer do these guitars feel with silk bottom strings when compared to an acoustic dreadnought with a 25.5'' scale and 0.11 steel strings.
Hey man! Your sound is killing but your phrase isn´t clear. When you play it fast the first two times you play in the second bar on beat 3+ an ghosted A. When you play it slow there is no A and you continue directly with the D. I mean that´s why the phrase doesn´t fit harmonicly when you continue. Check it out, man. It sounds better this way! :)
So this is an Am lick. Just learning this lick isn't very useful.
Do an Am sweep up but on the was back down pick the Maj7,natural7,6th and the b3,2,b2 on the way down.
I bet there are patterns like this for most of this stuff so that its easier to apply in general. I'm just starting but this "lesson" doesn't really convey anything useful so I hope my 2 cents helps someone.
@chillichomper I know learning licks is very tedious. But speaking as someone that has absolutely no experience or much prior knowledge when it comes to gypsy picking it's quite useful to see the technique in context and not have to spend hours transcribing. But yes your right it's always good to think about applying technique rather than just collecting useless licks to put in bag. The bag will be heavy and hinder your progress

like the Django style guitar---is it a Selmer Macaferri?
micmoable 7 months ago
@micmoable It's a Selmer style guitar. Selmers are the guitars with the oval holes, or "petite bouche", and Macaferris have the D-holes

I love he counts in the songs. By the time he says "four" it's just a weird garbled word. But that's the charm of the man. He's a master.

@burningface
Maybe because English is not Stochelo's first language.
But we all love his music, that's what count's..cheers.

@flatpick4eadg Yeah, that is totally what it is. But I still get a little chuckle nonetheless. Stochelo is awesome.
