You have to think of pop music as a separate category of music. Now these days there are sub-genres of pop music. Like Bruno Mars to Justin Bieber to Beyonce to rappers who use the word "swag."

Completely fresh and unique? I don't know about that as far as this song is concerned. I've heard this kind of sound many times in my ambient playlist i use to go to sleep. Not only will there be strong agreement on quality of songs within (sub)genres. Also there is something more measurable called creativity. If you compare this with rebecca blacks friday.
